Kennis, thanks so much for this. I just saved some $ and learned something ! I ended up using a wooden/bamboo skewer that I had instead of toothpicks. It was actually the perfect size and one piece. So far so good, the job feels solid and is in a better place than it was before. The real test will be tomorrow when I use it at The Van Goghs show. :)
The best way to do this is grab a tooth pick and some wood glue. Put your wood glue in first to the top. Put your tooth pick into the hole and break it in half then, put the other half of the toothpick in. SLIGHTLY (2 hits maximum) hammer the tooth picks in and break them off. While the glue is wet take a SCREW DRIVER and screw your strap button into place. Let that dry and you're good to go, fixed tons of guitars that way.
Would you do this any different on an acoustic guitar?
The bottom button came out on mine, but I feel like the same method would work since the strap peg goes into a block of wood in the bottom of the acoustic
@MattiDaimen I have heard of people doing it that way. I've have never done it to be honest, so I'm not sure of the results. I say try it and see how it works. My guess is that it would work ok. Gluing it would be the better way in the long run, but who knows, give it a shot and please let me know how it works.
@Stevenarius I'd wait at least 30 minutes. If you can tell that the wood is gummy at all, it is still drying. If you don't wait long enough and mess things up, you can always repeat the process again.
I just bought a used flying v, and the strap button on the bottom of the guitar is loose. I'm really glad I saw this video before I went out and got a bigger screw.
@kennisrussell Check whatever glue bottle you use and see how long they say to let it dry, but I would give it about 20-30 minutes at least. You can tell when you are drilling if it is not dry yet. It will be all gummy. If you drill to early, no big deal, just glue another toothpick in it. Hope that helps.

Great tip! I saw this kind of hole repair in a wood class but never thought to use it on the guitar. Makes perfect sense! Thanks for sharing.

@ZionVG Your welcome. Just a simple solution that really works.

I've used matchsticks'n'glue on many a guitar since the 70's... the repair is stronger than the original wood. Great video!

@yellowsub1967 Thanks. It's amazing how great it works. Next time I'm going to try the matchsticks.
