@fordguy85 Plus '96-'98 had OBD-II while '93-'95 had OBD-I. The GEN2 also had a completely different interior and front/rear facia design. And the GEN2 has a neon brake light on the trunk lid as well as factory HID low beam headlights. There are also many other differences but not enough space to go into them all here.
I have a GEN 2 '97 Mark VIII and love it to death!!!! It's my wife's daily driver, less than 20 miles a week to and from work but we enjoy it on the weekends.
@cobrafreak93 Unfortunately, the '96 is the bastard child of the Mark VIII family. It still looks like the '93-'95 model and has the same basic engine design with coil packs. But the computer system is different. '93-'95 had OBD-I while the '96-'98 had OBD-II. So the '96 is the GEN1 design with GEN2 computer. Some rare parts such as the VRCM are exclusive to the '96 and no other year will fit. It makes it irritating to own sometimes. But I still love mine.
Do you still have the AC and PS? How did you route your exhaust to the turbine, and from the turbine back. I have been looking at this, and even with a tubular K member, I just can't figure it out.
Yes, we still have AC and PS. All the piping was measured and bent at a muffler shop. As mentioned on a previous reply, our future plans are to go mandrel bent on all our work. It's not easy, this has taken us quite sometime to figure out but it can be done!
@fordguy85 Nice job! I would love to see some build pics. I just bought a stock '98 to play with. Thinking about a turbo setup. I've turbo'd a few cars and made the piping myself. I bought prebent mandrel j bends and cut and fitted to suit. I used a tigwelder to make the welds look pretty. I can get them in mild steel and 304 stainless.
Its great that you can weld on your own. Believe me, when you get started on your Mark project you will know its a pretty long road to the finish. Taking our time-it has taken close to 4 years and its still not complete. I just spoke to my buddy this morning and he finally connected his digital boost controller. We may make a couple of back road runs tomorrow ;)
That's inspiring. Lol. I just bought a 93 Mark viii about two weeks ago. I plan on doing some of the same things you did with yours but I first need to get all the mechanical work done.
Im doing the same thing. Just got my engine back from Livernois 5.3L(4.6) ported heads...cost a lot!!! I will be looking for someone to fabricate the piping I need to make a turbo work, we'll be using headers, probly mustang turbo headers. Awsome job on your car!! I was hoping someone else out there would do the same thing I am doing using a 4.6.
Awesome, its an ongoing project for sure. There not many people in my ara who re doing this but we did meet a couple of guys in our area who have Mark VIIIs through YouTube as well.
The car should be in the high 10's to low 11's at this time. We are currently waiting for a custom torque converter to be made this week. The other one was destroyed, once the new one is installed it should be making good power once more.
@fordguy85 Art Carr makes a awesome unit,I have a custom Art Carr valve bodie and TCI Livenois Motorsport custom Tranny.850RWH @21psi boost Procharger '94 mark 8 w/custom 2000 cobra tumble port heads&custom grind stage 4 cams.3200 stall.
bad ass ride! I want to do a turbo on my 93 not sure what to do for exhaust to the turbo. how did you do it. also what did you do for tuning? chip, or aftermarket ecu.
The Mark has a Diablo Sport tune. Stock exhaust headers and the pipes are all custom bent (tube bender) but not mandrel bent as it should be. That is probably our next step in its evolution. See out other video of our ride in action.
The engine was built by a famous race car engine builder here in Miami, it ran about $5000, give or take. It included everything but some parts were bought out of pocket and given to the builder for installation. The car has never ran a 1/4 mile, just 1/8 mile. The latest stats 2 weeks ago were as follows:
Off topic a bit. I'm a chevy guy. I just came across a towncar with a scattered sohc 4.6. I have a 94 Mark 8 with the 32V motor. Are they interchangeable? How hard will the swap be? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
I would wonder if the subframe is the same for either the SOHC 4.6L or the DOHC 32V 4.6L. Also, if the motor mounts line up? Anyhting is possible but I personally do not know. Would have to do some homework on that.
My buddy and I live in Miami and we frequent Countyline Raceway. As a matter on fact, the car ran last night at the track posting a 7.6 sec. 1/8 mile and 1.8 sec. 60ft. Hope to see you there. What year and model is your blown Lincoln?
The Borg Warner turbo size is 67/88. The engine was rebuilt by a well-known engine builder here in Miami, it is bulletproof!! Parts include Ford Racing crank, performance pistons, rods, porting, Cobra intake and components, etc. It's built for street and strip but lately it's been only running at the track.
We need details on that setup... all I see is a B head Cobra manifold and a FMIC. If you don't have pics of the work in progress, at least post up some pics of it now.
I'm looking hard to find that exact wheel and tire combination --- tire brand, sizes and wheel offset ,, If i could find them would be much appreciated ,,,,, I am in the beginning of my mark X or mark V10 project - 98 bk/bk lsc TTA V10 6spd interstate flyer --- I love that tread design -- I'm building a car to hotrod power tour with.
These are "cobra" style rims ( 17 X 9 ) that share the bolt pattern with Thunderbirds and Taurus (zero offset). These are NOT Mustang rims but these can be used with the right adapter/wheel spacer. The tires are Federal brand, they suck!!! We had to switch to MT street/strip because there was too much torque at the rear wheels thus the car got too tail happy.
Thanks so much fg - ill keep you posted on my progress - landed a large bid in new orleans might slow down progress but will definatly bring on better parts lolol ,, im looking at a dog box tranny - 5 speed is all that i can find in a dog box,,,,,, thanks again !!!!!!!!
Unfortunately, we did not do a picture diary of the work. I may edit more videos we have done and tape new ones when the car is finally finished. Stay tuned.
No turbo kit, the Borg Warner turbo was purchased separately from the Tial wastegate and blow-off valve and the pipes, hoses, etc. were hand made/fabricated. No specific turbo kit exists for this car.
They just dont make cars like this anymore...

@cobrafreak93
1993-1998 Mark VIIIs are mostly unchanged when it comes to the engine and transmission, except for the 1997-98 intakes and coil on plug systems.

Most 1993-1998 Mark VIIIs are the same except for the different intake and coil-on plug systems in the 1997 and 1998.

I saw on horse power tv a guy who specializes in 4.6 dohc says the stock cranks is good to 800 hp.

you have the stock crank in there?
If not, go get a cobra crank for like 200 bucks. It's better than ruining your block. Those teksid blocks are good past 1500hp
