@HKfortyseven Oh, indeed. I still get chills all the way to my bones, every version I've heard. I can't wait to see them live, this might be our last chance to see them as we've always loved them.
@HKfortyseven Why it's considered the scariest song in music, even today by the best in the business including Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson! It is the Exorcist of music!
@SLAYERMETALLICA357 Yo dawg, I heard you like Black Sabbath. So I got Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath, So you could listen to Black Sabbath while you listen to Black Sabbath.
Black Sabbath has been playing for more than 4 decades, their contribution to Heavy Metal is infinitely bigger than Led Zeppelin's. Have they recorded any album? Have they played on a stage? I respect the band and their million of fans, but to say that they were "Pioneers of Heavy Metal" is too much. Less "celebrated" bands than them were indeed pioneers like Diamond Head, Angel Witch, Saxon, Motörhead amongst others. Led Zeppelin was famous by their (few) hits, not by their attitude.
This song is actually about an experience Geezer had. He was given a book about witchcraft from Ozzy. He placed the book on a shelf before he went to sleep. Then he woke up and saw a large black figure standing in front of him and then the figure disappeared. When he went to get the book it was gone. Ozzy wrote this song after Geezer told him what happened.
so many black metal, death metal, doom metal bands around with blood, gore, corpses, violence and shit... but nothing has ever come near to this masterpiece.
year is 1970 and doom to the bone, scary as f*ck.. unbelievable. i don't care who worships what but if there is satan, then it really worships your fingers mr. iommi. bless you for this music.
Ozzy was actually warning us that something bad was about to happen to all of us, and perhaps he was right. He prays for God in his song as far as I can hear, he sounds like he's in pain when speaks of the fire and Hell that is abound, he certainly ain't happy about it.
@MaXCKY i hear his warning but i still cant wait to see the day fire and hell rains down upon these pathetic mortals, all i see is War, bombs, destructions, hate, conquer, rivalry, no peace, its about time that satan spreads his wings and devours all the fucks on this planet who deserve to perish.
@bluestormx4 But that's the thing, my friend, Satan is already here, and it's us, it's the ego. It's the ego that brings upon the destruction, because the ego is only out for itself. Satan is only metaphor, just as God is metaphor. Upon the destruction of the ego comes upon the times of peace, selfless living is what perishes hate. To wait upon mythical creatures and metaphors is to wait for snow in the summer.
What is this that stands before me? Figure in black which points at me There is Ozzy spitting fire Telling me to jump more higher Big black shape with eyes of fire Telling people their desire Tony's playing his guitar There's one riff above us all Is it the end, my friend? Geezer's coming with a bend People screaming 'cause they're happy Bill Ward's drums are very loudly
This is the first time I'm listening to Black Sabbath's first album entirely and I can't believe how good it is.
It's so much better and authentic than "Led Zeppelin I". I can't believe how musically overrated Led Zeppelin are! So much exaggeration around them, I can't think of a single band more overrated than those guys and it simply pisses me off.
And this is coming from a guy who's not that much into Heavy Metal music, but what a great album "Black Sabbath" is!
I hate all the stereotypical dipshits, just because some metal artists right about satanic subjects doesnt mean theyre satan worshippers, its just part of the act. Even if they did believe it, who the hell cares? That's their philosophy, they dont have to believe in your fucking god, and if you dont like it then get the fuck out.
I grew up with these guys. I've had every album they ever put out at one point.. And after all this time, I can honestly say they are still my favorite band.. Get well Tony...
oh by the way?? my fav rock band of all time happens to be led zeppelin and they were and always will be the greatest ROCK AND ROLL band in the history of music, and i hate to say this but?? if john BONZO bonham was still alive today?? they would have cranked out the best rock of all time PERIOD hey? PEACE
@topcatroar61oliosc i agree with u on one thing led zepplin was amazing robert plant is the freikin man but black sabbath kicks led zepplin's ass any day of the week in fact they kick every other metal genre bands ass in the history of the metal genre
@topcatroar61oliosc Woe, you do realize, that Led Zeppelin was called satanic to, right? Don't believe me? Please, look up Stairway To Heaven, backward! No you won't cuz ignorance like yours doesn't want to be proven wrong. The thing is Sabbath fans are not the only ones that have put Sabbath up their with the greatest, if not the greatest Heavy Metal band ever. Though I love Led Zep to, They are not still writing new material and planning new concert tours. Sabbath is.
@klaikavoika Oh I never believed that crap! I was just smacking an idiot up side the head, that called Black Sabbath satanic, and then said their favorite band is Led Zeppelin. I was pointing out that their "favorite" band has been called satanic by other idiots, to. Those same idiots have said if you listen to Crazy Train backwards it says that to. @topcatroar61oliosc I love Led Zepp. I love other great rock icons. But, I don't go to their videos and throw mud at them and say how much better Sabbath is, though for me they are my favorite. Don't like em don't listen to them, but quit looking down on me for loving great rock.
ok thizzle izzle is the snizzle!! yo you fucked demons and devil wourshippers!!! let it be known that jesus christ will be coming back to earth i hope sooner than later cause that means i would be dead by then! i just want to say that black sabbath has been recognized all over this fucking world as the very first heavy metal rock group, so shutt the fuck up you haters and animals!! you will all get yours when my lord jesus returns to judge the kiving and the dead!! you better clean your life now
@topcatroar61oliosc Check, your Bible. Matthew 7 "Do not judge or you will be judged as you judge others." Gasp yeah, this devil worshiper has read the Bible. I'm sick an tired of you self righteous hyporcits condemning me for loving great music. It boggles my mind, really. How have you people missed the huge cross necklaces most of the members of Sabbath have worn for decades. I know wearing a cross doesn't make you a saved Christian, but neither does judging other people.
I know that no one is going to care to read this but I am a 16 year old drummer in the band The First Impression. We have a lyric video of are song on Youtube Called More Than You Know. Check it Out. It is worth your time.
143 bleak people still think Led Zeppelin created Metal hahahahaha Poor bastards, this band was created to make money (Starway to Heaven costs only 572 million of dollars) and they were led by a poser effeminate singer. Black Sabbath is original, they've been playing for 42 years and they did create what Metal is nowadays. Hail, Tony Iommi, hail Black Sabbath!
@beserk27 Led Zeppelin was one of the Pioneers of Heavy Metal along with Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. although Led Zeppelin is classic rock, they're a pioneer, and one of the best bands in the world. you were obviously misinformed. we all know black sabbath - paranoid is the birthplace of heavy metal, and black sabbath kicks butt hard. but don't go dissing zeppelin. littlle known fact, their singer has one of the most unique voices in rock history, those guys had more soul than a shoe factory
@beserk27 Look, I adore Sabbath. They are my Lords of music, PERIOD. But I love Led Zepp to, and I will not trash talk them, even here. For me, Sabbath wil always be the GodFathers of my favorite music, but we don't have to bash others. Don't sound as blind as the people that put Sabbath down.
@mastercadillactus if you mean the guy in the blue shirt with red stars that is actually Geezer the bassist. Iommi is the genius on the red and black left handed guitar.
As has been said, there wasn't a Heavy Metal when Black Sabbath walked out onto a stage for the first time. Hard Rock was in it's infancy, Led Zepp (who I give huge kudos as influence to metal), and a few others being the foundation for both genres. When Sabbath introduced metal it was only one genre, now we have more and more every day. They made metal, they weren't just metal! I love them for what they are, not matter what genre you put them in.
what a bunch of crap, yeah it sure took them a little bit of time to settle their final heavy metal sound, but I mean all the post-paranoid works (1971 - present) are PURE heavy metal, and if you think black sabbath is "acid rock" you're fucking crazy. cream is acid rock. blue cheer is acid rock. hendrix is acid rock. THIS is heavy metal (root heavy metal is you like)
@akaTheQ97 HAHAHAHAHAHA... well considering their guitarist came up with and COINED the term heavy metal I think they thought quite highly of it.
You obviously have NO clue of the history of the band or where the guitarist came from work wise before and how/why he had to learn how to play the guitar with hand made prosthetics.
@akaTheQ97 They are the GodFather's of Heavy Metal, and they accepted it proudly. Ask them, have you watched the VH1's History of Heavy Metal. Iommi said it, it was literally Heavy Metal that made Black Sabbath, his fingers were cut off in a sheet metal factory, and the prosthetics he made, gave his guitar work that dark, haunting, melodic sound of Sabbath. Iommi said it himself. They are Heavy Metal.
Yes, it is true. Toni Iommi was diagnosed with the early stages of Lymphoma. But he still plans on doing the record and the tour. He's strong and he's Sabbath! He can't die yet!
Who said black metal and death metal are scary kinds of music are just retarded. I mean... they're good genres, but no one comes close to THIS, this is ALOT scarier if you're thinking from a certain point of view. Screaming like a devil or growling may be scary for some people, but this is like dreaming a nightmare. This is the dark side of psychedelic/acid rock, more intense and more evil, dark... Fuck ! Hails to the true Sabbath !
Who said black metal and death metal are scary kind of music are just retarded. I mean... they're good genres, but no one comes close to THIS. This is the dark side of psychedelic/acid rock, more intense and more evil, dark... Fuck ! Hails to the true Sabbath !
@Crystal94SK Oh, well, yeah, this is considered the scariest song, in rock history. It's long been heralded as the Exorcist of music. I still get chills all the way through me everytime I hear this song, the original recording, live like here, or even now. Totally agree with you, here!
@Crystal94SK he will survive. he survived the 70's and the 80's and he's been trough heaven and hell with black sabbath. he won't die from cancer, believe me
@LeKerstman Dio did, Dio was the greatest man in the world, he was the nicest, most kind man on the face of the earth, he didn't deserve to die from cancer but unfortunatly shit happens. I hope to god tony survives but cancer is fucking cancer, you never know...
@Crystal94SK it's just the early stage of Lymphoma, I bet they caught it soon enough, he will probably have surgery and maybe some chemotherapy, but I'm sure he will survive.
@PatrikPanik Know my history? Look up VH1's Black Sabbath-Behind the Music, the video Black Sabbath-Black Sabbath, or Wikipedia, about how the song came to be. Geezer was into black magic at one point, and Ozzy gave him a book that creeped him out. He swore he saw a black figure after waking up and got rid of the book. Ozzy wrote the lyrics for the song after Geezer's experience. All three tellings of who wrote the words for this song are the same, Ozzy. I know it well, thanks.
@PatrikPanik I will correct that, Ozzy wrote most of the lyrics, not all of them, and I said that originally. But Geezer even gives Ozzy credit for coming up with the lyrics and the theme based upon his experience with a book that Ozzy had given him. Please look it up before doubting what I know about the history of this band that I have loved for all of my life. Every member of this band was a huge contribution to this song and their legend. Why I said what I did.
@ShieldMaidenBLS I think the Patrik guy is only saying what he says from Ozzy's and/or Tony's book. Geezer wrote most of the lyrics on their first 2 albums that's for sure.
@warman31 and I'm saying that in at least three different sources, Geezer himself said that Ozzy wrote most of the lyrics for this particular song. He questioned my knowledge of the history of this band, and I know it well. All four members of this incredible band contributed huge amounts for all of Sabbath's songs. Geezer did help write or wrote many. But this particular song though it was created by all four (I've said that), most of the lyrics was written by Ozzy. \m/
@PatrikPanik Funny thing is I just listened to the clip from Black Sabbath-Black Sabbath and realized Geezer said the book was gone when he went to go get rid of it. Thanks for making me listen to that again, that is pretty creepy.
One time, a young boy went through his older brother's record collection and came across this album. He put it on and...later joined a band named Metallica. That boy? James Hetfield.
'There's an eternal quality to great rock and roll; listen to the first Black Sabbath album; [it] has not dated. Now play Xxxx's record. In twenty years' time, I wonder what people will think of it.' - Bruce Dickinson.
How could a song with three basic repeated notes be so epic? How could one band of four relatively poor young men from a poorer area of England create one of the greatest and longest living Metal bands ever? I don't know, they just did. It's clear the world didn't feel that it was all love and peace, since Sabbath came out at the end of the 60's. This song still gives me chills from the first opening note all the way to the hardest hitting ending, period. There will never be another Sabbath!
Why does this only have 2.8 million views? It doesn't get any more metal than this. Sabbath was always heavy, but you could understand everything Ozzy ever sang. I miss that in a lot of the heavy metal genre's today. You can be heavy and scare the shit out of people, and still be understood! I agee this is the scariest song ever sang, PERIOD! This is the Exorcist of Music..
First metal peace ever done. Bass player was playing the notes from Mars the bringer or war, and the guitarist just jumped in by holding out the notes and the sound of metal was born. We love you black sabbath!
@demon428 Actually it was Ton Iommi's fingers getting cut off in a sheet metal factory that created the original metal sound of the guitar that cause the whole thing! Iommi created his own prosthetic fingers, which caused the rich, deep, metallic, haunting sound of Sabbath. As he's jokingly said, that was the best, stupidest thing he's ever done, lol.
Black sabbath has been with me in times of depression, in times of drugs, every time I go to sleep. People say its satans music??? How could that be when its made by gods!
Primitive version. One thing that cries out of classics like a sore thumb is that you never get tired of listening to them. I may have listened to this tune a few hundred of times and every time I do, I discover something new , a new feeling. The Sab Four are all still alive because they have a mission on this planet - reunite and tour the world one more time!
i look at the new bands of this era of metal, and see leather and spikes and scowls, and hear none of the energy and spirit of all of them combined that can match a handful of britsh men in 70s casual wear! Black Sabbath pioneered heavy metal, and few can ever say they've come close to stepping out from under Sabbath's glorious wings.
I agree with almost all of this except the Father's Name. It should be Black Sabbath period. Because the four members created this together, not just Iommi, though if his fingers hadn't gotten cut off in a sheet metal shop, metal guitar wouldn't be what it is today. But, since Ozzy wrote most of the lyrics and the theme concept of the song, Black Sabbath (the song) wouldn't have been written. I love them all!
Tony Iommi, Ozzy, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. What a truly great band and this song is one of my favorites. Great music to get high to. I can't believe there are 139 dislikes. What is wrong with these people?
I find this song to be coming from a place of love and innocence.
You know, mfolks don't know Ozzie sang with CSN and in fact the band was once called Crosby,Ozzie,Stills and Nash.
Ozzie also sang back up on The Captain and Tennille's hit "Love will keep up together".
Fun facts eh?

hello metalheads
Instead of a Metal rebellion, I propose a new plan.
1. Don't bash other metal artists, we must unite! We cant fight against pop music, even if we aren't together.
2. Watch more and more metal videos to get it to the top of the Youtube video list.
If you like this idea, thumbs it up, JUST so people can see it, and also spread it around if you like this idea.
Lets show them that metal kicks a**!
Copy this into every Metal video you watch, and we're getting power

As has been said, there wasn't a Heavy Metal when Black Sabbath walked out onto a stage for the first time. Hard Rock was in it's infancy, Led Zepp (who I give huge kudos as influence to metal), and a few others being the foundation for both genres. When Sabbath introduced metal it was only one genre, now we have more and more every day. They made metal, they weren't just metal! I love them for what they are, not matter what genre you put them in.

@akaTheQ97
what a bunch of crap, yeah it sure took them a little bit of time to settle their final heavy metal sound, but I mean all the post-paranoid works (1971 - present) are PURE heavy metal, and if you think black sabbath is "acid rock" you're fucking crazy. cream is acid rock. blue cheer is acid rock. hendrix is acid rock. THIS is heavy metal (root heavy metal is you like)
PolMcCartney 2 weeks ago
@akaTheQ97 HAHAHAHAHAHA... well considering their guitarist came up with and COINED the term heavy metal I think they thought quite highly of it.
You obviously have NO clue of the history of the band or where the guitarist came from work wise before and how/why he had to learn how to play the guitar with hand made prosthetics.
lostsanityreturned 2 weeks ago
@akaTheQ97 I wouldn't listen to Black Sabbath if I thought they cared what people labeled them.
wpropst 2 weeks ago in playlist Black Sabbath
@akaTheQ97 They are the GodFather's of Heavy Metal, and they accepted it proudly. Ask them, have you watched the VH1's History of Heavy Metal. Iommi said it, it was literally Heavy Metal that made Black Sabbath, his fingers were cut off in a sheet metal factory, and the prosthetics he made, gave his guitar work that dark, haunting, melodic sound of Sabbath. Iommi said it himself. They are Heavy Metal.

@Goutetsu13 Blue Cheer had the sound as did Purple and Cream, but Sabbath brought it full circle with the lyrics.

Fuck ! Hails to the true Sabbath !

geezer wrote most of the lyrics. ozzy would sing one or two lines then he would run with it. ffs know your history man.
PatrikPanik 3 weeks ago
@PatrikPanik Know my history? Look up VH1's Black Sabbath-Behind the Music, the video Black Sabbath-Black Sabbath, or Wikipedia, about how the song came to be. Geezer was into black magic at one point, and Ozzy gave him a book that creeped him out. He swore he saw a black figure after waking up and got rid of the book. Ozzy wrote the lyrics for the song after Geezer's experience. All three tellings of who wrote the words for this song are the same, Ozzy. I know it well, thanks.
ShieldMaidenBLS 3 weeks ago
@PatrikPanik I will correct that, Ozzy wrote most of the lyrics, not all of them, and I said that originally. But Geezer even gives Ozzy credit for coming up with the lyrics and the theme based upon his experience with a book that Ozzy had given him. Please look it up before doubting what I know about the history of this band that I have loved for all of my life. Every member of this band was a huge contribution to this song and their legend. Why I said what I did.
ShieldMaidenBLS 3 weeks ago
@ShieldMaidenBLS I think the Patrik guy is only saying what he says from Ozzy's and/or Tony's book. Geezer wrote most of the lyrics on their first 2 albums that's for sure.
warman31 3 weeks ago
@warman31 and I'm saying that in at least three different sources, Geezer himself said that Ozzy wrote most of the lyrics for this particular song. He questioned my knowledge of the history of this band, and I know it well. All four members of this incredible band contributed huge amounts for all of Sabbath's songs. Geezer did help write or wrote many. But this particular song though it was created by all four (I've said that), most of the lyrics was written by Ozzy. \m/
ShieldMaidenBLS 3 weeks ago
@PatrikPanik Funny thing is I just listened to the clip from Black Sabbath-Black Sabbath and realized Geezer said the book was gone when he went to go get rid of it. Thanks for making me listen to that again, that is pretty creepy.

@demon428 Actually it was Ton Iommi's fingers getting cut off in a sheet metal factory that created the original metal sound of the guitar that cause the whole thing! Primitive version. One thing that cries out of classics like a sore thumb is that you never get tired of listening to them. i look at the new bands of this era of metal, and see leather and spikes and scowls, and hear none of the energy and spirit of all of them combined that can match a handful of britsh men in 70s casual wear!
