I personally want to try this game out, pity the new owners had to dumb it down so much but that's what happens when the old owners refuse to release the codes for the game. They had to start from scratch. I am thinking of getthing this though, it looks really fun and Star Trek fans would like the interaction in this game as mediocre as it's starting. Heck World of Warcraft wasn't all amazing when it first started out either and people loved it.
To bad, the 2nd company did not live up to the ideas of the the original one....like the different types of vessels based on class....and they got rid of star fleet Academy.....
star trek should partner with star wars, with star trek being before human space travel became as advanced as star wars is and before humans evolve to being able since the force, it would be an awesome setting for a movie about the first Jedi, thumbs up if you agree.

I would have liked to have had the delta and gama qudrents. And i that time you could walk around your ship checking things out.
Exactly. Cryptic's Star Trek Online isn't all that great or fun. It's okay. Perpetual's Star Trek Online would have kick ass. Bioware's Star Wars The Old Republic is my substitute for me. The Federation has a full PVE leveling system with episodic content and away team missions. I'm not sure how much of the PVE content centers around ship combat but it seems to be a pretty good split between ship adventuring and away team missions.

yeah, alot of us feel the same way. The basic ideas of Star Trek have been completely ignored and circumvented to allow for the same old, tired gameplay we got in half life, star trek armada and asteroids *chuckle*. The original ideas for STO by the former company were exactly what we wanted, but just before that company went belly up, they too said they just wouldnt do it. Sad, really. Guess we have to wait another bunch of years before someone smart does it right.
i was in a chinese talking to a star trek fan that goes to convenions and like me collected far too many of them fact files :) & they were not interested so if fans are not getting a star treck experiance like las vegas had but on there pc and normal people wont even look at it because the outside world wont touch star trek because the media have told them its for geeks

First and foremost, Bioware have succeeded in RPG's BECAUSE they have not made MMO's.
The crucial aspect of any RPG is the telling of it's story. It is harder to keep that story active in an MMO because you need constant updates to keep it so. But not only this, it is hard to keep true to that story when you need to 'raid' the same dungeon/boss 100 times.
Whether TOR will work? I don't know. I have loved Bioware since Baldurs Gate/Torment, but I just don't know about them doing an MMO.
Come on. So what if BioWare never made a MMO before. Give them a chance. I got full faith in them of making Star Wars The Old Republic being a success! I loved BioWare since Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the first Mass Effect came out! Oh I can't wait to get Dragon Age: Origins tomorrow and in 3 months to get Mass Effect 2 and who knows when they will release Star Wars The Old Republic but I just know it will be a good game like its regular RPG predecessors were!
As a fan of Bioware for over a decade now, I feel that yes, they probably could make it a success. They certainly have the capabilities in story telling.
But, there is a difference in success and what I personally expect. After looking into the game, I can't help but feel it's going to be too much like WoW/WAR etc.

i can see this game having quite a large area to explore, quite similar to microsofts freelancer i would presume, but i cant imagine what this kind of game would be like in say 50 or 100 years time when im sure game creators will literally be able to buffer large portions of space online, and you will literally be able to constantly fly in one direction for months (at say warp 9 for arguements sake) and still be exploring new areas. anyone agree? how sick would that be!

No, because if the STO dosent work, probably a SW Online game have the same destiny. Like the ,,Throne reclamers of the World of Warcraft". But also a great problem, the PC-s. Many PC like my is old (7 year old Pentium3) and not nextgen (pixelshader). I dont gonna buy a whole computer because a game nextgen and i also not gonna pay every month like many other game. I think enough pay one time for a game.
I prefer the Lineage because its have a comerical version what i can use free.
And it's run without nextgen card (Unreal 2 Engine). And the expand for the commerical version is free and applicable to. The Wow is full nextgen and not hibrid as the L2. So even if a better fun as Lineage i don't gonna buy new PC until this one work perfect.
But as i see they gonna use nextgen tech. because the work is faster. So again it's gonna be a fall. Oh and don't forgeth they probably make game card shit system again (like WOW), so i think they gonna fall a wherry big one.
I have a suggestion for you. Get a Xbox 360. Updating the graphics card and etc on a PC to get games to run and install them is a pain in the ass. I hate doing that crap on my PC. That is one big reason why I prefer playing games on the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. Star Trek Online isn't just coming out on the PC. It is also coming out on the Xbox 360 as well. A bunch of new MMOs are coming on consoles now is very nice.
I play City of Heroes/Villains on my PC and it lags a lot but if I had it on the Xbox 360 then I wouldn't have that problem at all. Running games on consoles are a lot better and easier than on a PC.
Actually BioWare is making a new Star Wars MMO called Star Wars The Old Republic. It's a sequel to Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: Sith Lords and it takes place 300 years after the first 2 games and takes place 3,500 years before the events of the Star Wars movies.
I hate to say this but Star Wars The Old Republic is gonna totally own all MMOs including Star Trek Online. It's gonna be the best, fun, and most realistic MMO ever! That is reason why I really wish that BioWare would do Star Trek Online instead of Cryptic Studios!

Actually, that's not right. Yes, you're a captain, but you have a history as well (science, security, engineer) which affects what you can do. And exploration is going to be one of the major factors in the game as well. Yes, there'll be combat, but there was going to be combat in perpetual's version too. At least Cryptic will be able to release it

Sorry it's a great system minus the RROD part. I like the PS3 too but the 360 is where all the excitement and fun at though. The 360 has a lot of great games and the PS3 has some great games too and of course you got the Blu-ray Disc player built-in it which is great.
Playstation Network vs. Xbox LIVE. Live has the best online service it offers you a lot of downloadable content and plus you can use Netflix on it and you can have an avatar for your gamertag. For PSN, its online service is okay and yeah it's free but it doesn't give you much downloadable content as you get on LIVE though and Playstation Home is okay.

yea but its better than star trek at spaceships. Eve has so much stuff to fit your spaceship. Also eve releasing a patch which allows you to walk in the space station. Star trek for exploration and fun. Eve for accurate and serious mmorpg.
the show is awesome. the next generation is my favorite. it's only cool if you are into sci-fi and space stuff. if you think it looks gay, at least watch one episode, try it out. otherwise the game will not be cool at all.
This game was sold to another devoloper, recently as of around April/May. To me, this means that the game will now take on more years of devolopment, because new devolopers want to do the game their way, not the way the previous devoloper had in mind. A beta For July 27th? I totally doubt that, surely it won't be ready even for a beta for another 2 years or so.
july 27, is likely the date the website goes live. as for this game-i just hope the designers learn from the mistakes made from SWG and use the postive features that wow and yes Conan are using currently

i can see this game having quite a large area to explore, quite similar to microsofts freelancer i would presume, but i cant imagine what this kind of game would be like in say 50 or 100 years time when im sure game creators will literally be able to buffer large portions of space online, and you will literally be able to constantly fly in one direction for months (at say warp 9 for arguements sake) and still be exploring new areas. anyone agree? how sick would that be!

No, because if the STO dosent work, probably a SW Online game have the same destiny. Like the ,,Throne reclamers of the World of Warcraft". But also a great problem, the PC-s. Many PC like my is old (7 year old Pentium3) and not nextgen (pixelshader). I dont gonna buy a whole computer because a game nextgen and i also not gonna pay every month like many other game. I think enough pay one time for a game.
I prefer the Lineage because its have a comerical version what i can use free.

And it's run without nextgen card (Unreal 2 Engine). And the expand for the commerical version is free and applicable to. The Wow is full nextgen and not hibrid as the L2. So even if a better fun as Lineage i don't gonna buy new PC until this one work perfect.
But as i see they gonna use nextgen tech. because the work is faster. So again it's gonna be a fall. Oh and don't forgeth they probably make game card shit system again (like WOW), so i think they gonna fall a wherry big one.

I have a suggestion for you. Get a Xbox 360. Updating the graphics card and etc on a PC to get games to run and install them is a pain in the ass. I hate doing that crap on my PC. That is one big reason why I prefer playing games on the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. Star Trek Online isn't just coming out on the PC. It is also coming out on the Xbox 360 as well. A bunch of new MMOs are coming on consoles now is very nice.

I play City of Heroes/Villains on my PC and it lags a lot but if I had it on the Xbox 360 then I wouldn't have that problem at all. Running games on consoles are a lot better and easier than on a PC.

Actually BioWare is making a new Star Wars MMO called Star Wars The Old Republic. It's a sequel to Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: Sith Lords and it takes place 300 years after the first 2 games and takes place 3,500 years before the events of the Star Wars movies.

Now you can't be engineers, security people, normal crew etc etc.. its just your a captain and its red alert in space! That sucks!

Actually, that's not right. Yes, you're a captain, but you have a history as well (science, security, engineer) which affects what you can do. And exploration is going to be one of the major factors in the game as well. Yes, there'll be combat, but there was going to be combat in perpetual's version too. At least Cryptic will be able to release it

seiously i would not do anything but advise against the 360 look up the red ring of death even the new ones get it and you have to send it off for months to get it fixed the discs you only have to look at and there ruined scratch so easy its a joke and the noise they make is silly fans and cd drives wering away and microsoft advise not playing it for any length of time plus the os is a pile of rubbish something simple like removing a game save is a chore and setting up xbox live takes forever

The red ring of death only happened to me like 3 times so far and me getting it repair isn't that bad and it's free too, it only takes a week then I get it back and anyways the RROD usually happens to me like once a year or a year and a half.

Sorry it's a great system minus the RROD part. I like the PS3 too but the 360 is where all the excitement and fun at though. The 360 has a lot of great games and the PS3 has some great games too and of course you got the Blu-ray Disc player built-in it which is great.

Playstation Network vs. Xbox LIVE. Live has the best online service it offers you a lot of downloadable content and plus you can use Netflix on it and you can have an avatar for your gamertag. For PSN, its online service is okay and yeah it's free but it doesn't give you much downloadable content as you get on LIVE though and Playstation Home is okay.

dude. I think you need to take a chill pill. the Xbox 360 is actually very good. I've had mine for awhile and it hasn't crapped out on me. nor has it killed my discs. and yes everyone does play CoD. And yes CoD is good but its not the best thing on the market. Halo3 is great. not as good as the original Halo but its great. Final Fantasy XII is fantastic. Fallout3, Batman Arkham Asylim, Star Wars the Force Unleashed are all good games just to name a few. If you'd broaden your vision you would see

This game was sold to another devoloper, recently as of around April/May. To me, this means that the game will now take on more years of devolopment, because new devolopers want to do the game their way, not the way the previous devoloper had in mind. A beta For July 27th? I totally doubt that, surely it won't be ready even for a beta for another 2 years or so.
