the people who like this movie dont really get what it means to fans of the origonal anime series. Ive never watched the anime but i just dont like it when American directors take an anime put in some fancy explosions, sfx, pretty lights, make it 3D and put in teenage "actors" as the main roles and say "yep thats based off an anime i bet its just as good". Pretty lights and cheesy teen drama lines does not remake a classic in anyway.
I'm just sayin, but...you suck at making videos and your reasoning behind hating the movie is retarded. I bet they didn't want to completely remake the cartoon, so they added to it and put in the next step in the story, which is awesome for those of us that aren't ancient like you must be. I didn't like this movie. I love live-action-cartoon style movies, but the the flashbacks were confusing and the landscapes were excessively processed and sometimes just ugly. The dialogue was bad, but they did have some good acting, like John Goodman and Christina Ricci, and I liked some of the scenes, like the scene where Pops fights that ninja and he swirls him around in the air like on the cartoon. To make a long story short though I was really disappointed with this movie.
A) The whole movie should be about the Mach 5; and
B) It should have been "realistic".
My response to both those points is:
A) The movie should be about the CHARACTERS (and the Mach 5 is in it for a majority of the race scenes...you gotta take creative license when making movies); and
B) There's nothing "realistic" about cars with jump jacks - you can't dump on the film for being visionary.

Did you even WATCH the movie? The Mach 5 is a Grand Prix car, as it was in the cartoon series. It seems the sport had evolved into more of a "F-Zero" format where the Mach 5 wouldnt last one lap, hence the Mach 6. BTW, did you notice the name of the movie (and the cartoon, for that matter)? It's called "Speed Racer" isn't it? Or did they rename it "Mach 5"? I saw it twice already. I'm a fan of the old show, but I'm open-minded. I went into the theater expecting this movie to be a little different. True, I would've loved to see more of the Mach 5, but at least it was in best race of the movie. Still, you gotta admit that the T-180 cars were cool as hell.
I loved this movie. Some flashback scenes of Speed racing with the Mach 5 would've made it better, though.
Loved this movie! The visuals are fantastic, something different for a change, and the whole thing was way more fun than I anticipated. I took my 5 year-old, and on that point I have some regret, as I think the violence was a bit much for youngsters, I'm thinking the one scene with the gangsters threatening to throw a racer in the pirhana tank. Otherwise, just some ninja style fighting, all very cartoon style. I'd recommend for ages 7 and up...good family values and loads of fun!

I loved the movie. Really... it's amazing. I think it's a breakthrough.
Well I did care a little, but what I'm trying to get at is that it really didn't change the movie. The Mach 5 and the Mach 6 were really similar. They only looked different (besides the fact that the Mach 6 can go faster). Fans of the original anime series might complain a bit about this but that doesn't stop this movie from being great. I didn't hate this movie. In fact it is one of my favorite movies. The visuals were just stunning and it was just an outstanding movie. Go see it, it's great.
Ok. FYI... dude... Watch the actual movie. It does star the Mach 5. They build the Mach 6 when the other BLOWS UP. As in it's NOT DRIVABLE anymore... mmkay?... so get off your high horse and appreciate the movie. And Racer X. :D

i really liked the movie. i remember the cartoon as a kid and how crazy the world of speed racer was... cars doing amazing stunts, maneuvers that i could only dream about, and everything in the world revolving around racing, and i think the movie did a great job at portraying that
LOTS OF FUN...VISUALLY DAZZLING. You have to think...most of us are quite pleased with ourselves after we hang a framed poster in the hall, or stop that leak. Look what these guys do. THis is heavy duty razzle dazzle...and remember ..it's a kids film. That's massively obvious when you watch it. I caught the imax presentation...couldn't believe that two grown men got into a fight in the last two rows during the beginning...so lame. Kid to my right cried because he didn't have his baloons...jeez.
Uhh......the Mach 5 is in one of the longest sequences of the movie. And is put through far more grueling paces than the Mach 6. Yeah, I would've prefered only the Mach 5 be in the flick, but the Mach 6 grew on me some.
But the Mach 5 showed what it was made of....and it wasn't destroyed. Banged up by the end of the cross country race? Yep. But no more so than the Mach 6.

I really don't care anything about the Mach 5, I've been going to this movie every single night since the opening night only for Rain. OMG, RAIN IS THE REAL STAR OF THIS SHOW!! Screw the Mach 5. In the movie, the Mach 5 is destroyed, and Pops, Sparky, Speed, etc... have to rebuild from scratch, which they name the "Mach 6." This is why you see "6" rather than "5." The Mach 6 is actually faster and stronger than the Mach 5.
And the movie was awesome. Forget all reviews in which people unjustly rag on it. It was nothing but fun, and those people don't know how to just have fun. I also recommend sitting really close to the screen (like 4 or 5 rows from away).

Understandable but if you do some research you may find that it has been said there is indecent language, plus this is not the only PG movie with indecent language,so people may argue that you were careless, however i disagree, i must also mention in the preview in trailers there are fighting and guns, how is that any different then indecent language? It's about Speed Racer and the racer family who try to race honest in a World were Racing is everything and is run by big corporations who will do anything to win. The car is important but it is people who make good stories not cars planes etc.

Just saw it today. Holy shit. If you liked the cartoon, you will love the movie. It's a 2 hour orgy of color and the acting was actually really good. It's got a lot of funny parts, great movie for kids.
Almost everybody had young children with them and they were cheering a bunch of times, it was great.

The Commercial makes the movie look like its going to suck, i agree. But It eludes something, the Mach 5 most likely will be the star. If you watch closely it keeps flashing the real Mach 5. This leads me to believe it will have the storyline of one of the first episodes. Speed's dad doesn't want him racing cause of his brother, so speed does it in this Mach 6. Pop Racer then realizes his mistake and helps speed build the Mach 5! If that's not how they did it then yes it will suck!

I saw this movie last night at a special test screening. It was the completed film. First of all...it's mindblowing and fun. Yeah, this guy's right. It's NOT that realistic...you know, cuz it was based off a CARTOON! LOL. Also, the Mach 5 is indeed the star of the movie until something happens and they need to introduce the Mach 6. I won't spoil more than that. You'll have to see what happens to the Mach 5 on May 9. :) (Oh, and the Mach 5 AND Mach 8 were both AMAZING!!!) Great movie!

This film will be incredible because it's going to be offering something that looks and feels totally unique to ANYTHING coming out this Summer - it's not a sequel, it's not a prequel, and it's not another comic book adaptation about a rich guy who decides to fight crime.
Yes the original SR is still my favorite because that is what I grew up with. However if you are a true fan you will still enjoy what the new movie brings to the 40+ year run of our favorite cartoon race car driver.
One trailer shows the mach 4 with (possibly) Rex giving "young" Speed a ride on the track! I like the look! Too real would look stupid like Stalones race movie from the70's.
I don't think you guys have watched any old speed racer cartoons lately. They aren't as visually stimulating as you might remember (we're talking slow mo anime). Plus the translation to english caused them to talk funny. I've seen 4 different trailers now and they keep getting better! Anything they do is going to be awsome!

I was a huge SR fan when I was 6 years old. My son is now 6 and is a huge SR fan. We're both totally thrilled about the movie and plan to see it. I think the Wachowski's are the only people who could actually pull this off since they are former comic book nerds themselves.
By the way, I'm excited about the movie if only to see the possibility of the original cartoon FINALLY getting cleaned up and remastered on DVD. The DVD's I have are marginal quality at best. But it's all that's been available.
who said there is a mach 6 in the movie? There is a car with the #6 on it. but that doesn't make it a "mach 6". The #6 car is probably a track car for indoor kart racing. There is only one "Mach 5" and it's in the trailer also. They will most likely build the mach 5 in the movie when Speed decides to go race the pro circuit(road races). If the movie follows my hunch... it will be awesome!

At first glance i too was a lil skeptical about this movie. I was expecting something a bit more realistic like transformers. But all i can do is wait and reserve my judgment til i see the movie. But i am excited about the movie regardless. I was just hoping it would be a little less cartoon like, but then again i loved the cartoon.
Don't judge the movie until you've seen it. Obviously they have to adapt the original script for a movie, so obviously there is some purpose in that car saying Mach 6. As for it not being entirely realistic, that's more personal taste. Some people like it cartoonish, because that's the kind of feel they got from the show. I wonder why...? ((sarcasm)) So reserve judgments until you actually see the movie.

Besides, the bright colors and the cartoonish appearance reflect the Japanese origin of the anime cartoon off which this movie is based. I think this film'll be great. Don't knock it until you've seen it.

The Mach 5 is a street car ment for races like Caso Cristo.The Mach 6 is a race car for the racing legue.Like the Mach 4 it was Rex's racing car.

u have to watch the movie to fkn understand it i mean yes theres a mach 6 yes speed racer is al about the mach5 but if u watch it it tells u why they loose a race and they get taken to court and they loose the mach5 and its wasnt fast enough for the grand prix so they made the mach 6 and entered the mach6 because it was faster.... dnt judge a movie before u watch it for one and i wuld like to see u do better.... srsly its a good movie its a good cartoon its good over all full stop ending.

Did you even WATCH the movie? The Mach 5 is a Grand Prix car, as it was in the cartoon series. It seems the sport had evolved into more of a "F-Zero" format where the Mach 5 wouldnt last one lap, hence the Mach 6. BTW, did you notice the name of the movie (and the cartoon, for that matter)? It's called "Speed Racer" isn't it? Or did they rename it "Mach 5"? I watched the cartoon when I was a wee little babe, and it actually sufficed nicely.
I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and totally full of rainbows :]
I do admit, in the beginning I was like
"Oh wow, it's so colorful...and...um"
But a couple minutes after the beginning I was hooked :D

I saw it twice already. I'm a fan of the old show, but I'm open-minded. I went into the theater expecting this movie to be a little different. True, I would've loved to see more of the Mach 5, but at least it was in best race of the movie. Still, you gotta admit that the T-180 cars were cool as hell.
I loved this movie. Some flashback scenes of Speed racing with the Mach 5 would've made it better, though.

Loved this movie! The visuals are fantastic, something different for a change, and the whole thing was way more fun than I anticipated. I took my 5 year-old, and on that point I have some regret, as I think the violence was a bit much for youngsters, I'm thinking the one scene with the gangsters threatening to throw a racer in the pirhana tank. Otherwise, just some ninja style fighting, all very cartoon style. I'd recommend for ages 7 and up...good family values and loads of fun!

Well I did care a little, but what I'm trying to get at is that it really didn't change the movie. The Mach 5 and the Mach 6 were really similar. They only looked different (besides the fact that the Mach 6 can go faster). Fans of the original anime series might complain a bit about this but that doesn't stop this movie from being great. I didn't hate this movie. In fact it is one of my favorite movies. The visuals were just stunning and it was just an outstanding movie. Go see it, it's great.

LOTS OF FUN...VISUALLY DAZZLING. You have to think...most of us are quite pleased with ourselves after we hang a framed poster in the hall, or stop that leak. Look what these guys do. THis is heavy duty razzle dazzle...and remember ..it's a kids film. That's massively obvious when you watch it. I caught the imax presentation...couldn't believe that two grown men got into a fight in the last two rows during the beginning...so lame. Uhh......the Mach 5 is in one of the longest sequences of the movie. And is put through far more grueling paces than the Mach 6. Yeah, I would've prefered only the Mach 5 be in the flick, but the Mach 6 grew on me some.
But the Mach 5 showed what it was made of....and it wasn't destroyed. Banged up by the end of the cross country race? Yep. But no more so than the Mach 6.
Didn't think I was gonna like this movie after the trailer....but it was a helluva start for the summer movie season!

I've always wanted a mach 5, and all the people saying "the people ragging on it don't know what they're talking about" are wrong. it was SUPPOSED to be EXACTLY like the show, but with real people, and maybe more fluid speech; it wasn't supposed to be this bullshit fake special effects shit like every other action movie as of recent.

If this movie was trying to make less than half the profit it has already, then maybe they would have made it EXACTLY LIKE THE SHOW. No one really gives a shit if it's exactly the same or not. This movie is original and entertaining. The special effects are unlike any other movie I have seen, so you are 500% WRONG in the assumption that its just like every other action movie. In the movie, the Mach 5 is destroyed, and Pops, Sparky, Speed, etc... have to rebuild from scratch, which they name the "Mach 6." This is why you see "6" rather than "5." The Mach 6 is actually faster and stronger than the Mach 5.
And the movie was awesome. Forget all reviews in which people unjustly rag on it. It was nothing but fun, and those people don't know how to just have fun. I also recommend sitting really close to the screen (like 4 or 5 rows from away).

When I saw the trailer before the movie but I thought it would be a total failure of a movie. I sat through the first 30 minutes thinking "THIS IS THE LAMEST THING EVER". But this is a great movie. Understandable but if you do some research you may find that it has been said there is indecent language, plus this is not the only PG movie with indecent language,so people may argue that you were careless, however i disagree, i must also mention in the preview in trailers there are fighting and guns, how is that any different then indecent language? Speed Racer reminded me of Sin City because it was so different.
This movie is definitely unique and all the tight ass stiff critics are complaining. If you have an exciting bone in your body, you will love it.
If you are a miserable jackass who isnt impressed by anything and loves to feel unhappy, stay home. All the people who hate it so far have one thing in common, they are all boring corpses of a human being.
I am going to see it again and it will be out on Blu Ray by Thanksgiving.

Just saw it today. Holy shit. If you liked the cartoon, you will love the movie. It's a 2 hour orgy of color and the acting was actually really good. It's got a lot of funny parts, great movie for kids.
Almost everybody had young children with them and they were cheering a bunch of times, it was great.
Best end to a movie race, ever.

The Commercial makes the movie look like its going to suck, i agree. But It eludes something, the Mach 5 most likely will be the star. If you watch closely it keeps flashing the real Mach 5. This leads me to believe it will have the storyline of one of the first episodes. Speed's dad doesn't want him racing cause of his brother, so speed does it in this Mach 6. Pop Racer then realizes his mistake and helps speed build the Mach 5! If that's not how they did it then yes it will suck!

I saw this movie last night at a special test screening. It was the completed film. First of all...it's mindblowing and fun. Yeah, this guy's right. It's NOT that realistic...you know, cuz it was based off a CARTOON! LOL. Also, the Mach 5 is indeed the star of the movie until something happens and they need to introduce the Mach 6. I won't spoil more than that. You'll have to see what happens to the Mach 5 on May 9. :) (Oh, and the Mach 5 AND Mach 8 were both AMAZING!!!) Great movie!

I was a huge SR fan when I was 6 years old. My son is now 6 and is a huge SR fan. We're both totally thrilled about the movie and plan to see it. I think the Wachowski's are the only people who could actually pull this off since they are former comic book nerds themselves.

who said there is a mach 6 in the movie? There is a car with the #6 on it. but that doesn't make it a "mach 6". The #6 car is probably a track car for indoor kart racing. There is only one "Mach 5" and it's in the trailer also. They will most likely build the mach 5 in the movie when Speed decides to go race the pro circuit(road races). If the movie follows my hunch... it will be awesome!

ok the movie looks badass.. i'm sorry but there making it as much as the cartoon as possible with all the really top notch animation i mean could they make it more like the cartoon if it was all reall... no but the movie looks awesome and i can't wait to see... way to come back watchoski brothers..

At first glance i too was a lil skeptical about this movie. I was expecting something a bit more realistic like transformers. But all i can do is wait and reserve my judgment til i see the movie. But i am excited about the movie regardless. I was just hoping it would be a little less cartoon like, but then again i loved the cartoon.

Don't judge the movie until you've seen it. Obviously they have to adapt the original script for a movie, so obviously there is some purpose in that car saying Mach 6. As for it not being entirely realistic, that's more personal taste. Some people like it cartoonish, because that's the kind of feel they got from the show. I wonder why...? ((sarcasm)) So reserve judgments until you actually see the movie.
Also, the directors are amazing and the cast looks promising.

i dissagree with this opinion about the movie, so you said they stayed with the original script but why do they have to change the car,and add in charactars unknown? how does this appeal to the majority to the people. im not TRYING to judge but its pretty hard to not relise all of the idiotic flaws they are going to have. and also, just because its y2k doesnt mean that they cant just use old styles to go along with the original cartoon.
its just not right.
it looks horrible to be honest.

If they going to be cartoon-like, it is not going to be good. Younger people who don't watch anime or anime fan who didn't watch the original show are also the target when making the movie. If they put it original, it just like another race car story that everybody don't care about. I don't think it is horrible just because is not exactly original but has the original story to it that make it count.

of course! but his point that they put a six on the car or whatever, I you look it's not even the same car. The second car has a completely different look to it. I admit it's a bit more futuristic than I would like but i trust the WACHOWSKI BROTHERS to do a fair job. I'm really excited for the movie

WB didn't change the car number to "6," so stop whining about the damn car. As for the races being realistic v. cartoony, it would be way difficult to film them using real cars. Besides, the bright colors and the cartoonish appearance reflect the Japanese origin of the anime cartoon off which this movie is based. I think this film'll be great. Don't knock it until you've seen it.
