  • yOU NEED HIRE A BETTER CAMERA SHAKER.

  • add four caps to that setup and the will be bigger that 2 mots un ballested!

  • cool again

  • whats a ballast?

  • OMG not again, How do I keep finding thees shaky camera poo quality videos?

Have you watched any of them?

  • @ryobie1 haha i know i know. sorry about that and yes, it is a cell phone camera.

  • Dude, i would really recommend investing in a wooden stick, trust me, it will save your life

  • Can you turn any ballast into a transformer?

  • dont you mean turn any transformer into a ballast? :P

and yes i guess you can but i don't recomend you use just any transformer. you need to use something more powerful than the transormer you are ballasting. or else you will burn out the ballast. i know this from experience haha

    @TCDIL95

No, for example turning a 400w quad-tap MH ballast into a 277v to 120v or 480v to 277v step down transformer.

  • i made one out of a heat gun in 5 minutes

  • Dude your setup is way too dangerous.

  • could you explain your reason?

because i hate it too. lol

  • could you please tell me how its dangerous?

i would like to make improvements to it.

  • Allright. First of all that hanging cable there and you grabbing it with a metal clamp - you have like no insulation with that. And do never say little or small transformer to those MOTs. You may not have 10 kV from them. but the voltage you have from your setup + the current of a MOT and you get in contact with that thing will likely kill you immediately. And in addition to that - doing those arcs is like sooo senseless.

  • Put them into some sort of insulated case, use proper high voltage cables and no hanging stuff.

BTW: What is your goal with those MOTs? Any plans? Or just arcing?

  • i have now taken the ballast and converted it into a high current transformer. it works really well too :)

and i sacrificed that MOT because i got another bigger / better one today.

  • i was useing a pair of insulated pliers.

  • I wouldn't say theres anything silly about having MOT's in the open on a test bench, or arcing them out.

But the pliers really are a bit scary, I'd never trust my life with thin plastic insulation, whether its made in USA or china.

Tape the wire to a non conductive plastic or DRY balsa wood "chicken stick" before powering up, then you can keep the wire under control at all times, and be out of harms way.

  • i now know to use a long wooden stick(dried)
