I agree with the butter! It does make this a full on winter filler with some seeded bread.
For lighter dhaal I begin with some hot oil and chuck in all the spices, using whole ones if poss, like coriander seed. Let them explode for less than a minute then pour the oil through a sieve over pre-cooked plain red lentils and stir in. Not as hearty so good as an accompaniment.
LOL you are such an adorable food dork! I can't make it through any of your videos without giggling! But seriously this is one that I will be trying now that the weather is turning colder. Love love love those Indian spices and lentils - you just can't go wrong with that combination. ~ Becky x
your as beautiful as always... but i cringe when you use the knife to evacuate items from the board. i know using a pastry knife is one more thing to wash, but i get tired of dicing my ill-placed fingers.
Wow, so I'm Sri Lankan, and the way you cook dahl is so different! I'm by no means an expert, but the way my mum taught me is that you don't put tomato, or stock, or butter. To get that thick, creamy consistency, you use coconut milk instead. Then again, perhaps yours is a healthier recipe! I'll have try this out and see what it takes like =)
@stupidlysmart09 hiya, OK cool, your mum's way sounds fab too. There are so many different ways to make dahl, different lentils too. Some bigger lentils need to soak, but these ones I just rinse out and throw in, saves time and comes out great every time? I'm sure it will completely different to your mums but let me know if you like it. Can never have enough Dhal recipes!!! X
I wish I could make youtube videos like you :( I'm 11 years old and I LOOVVVEE baking and cooking:) But i am not aloud make youtube videos :( Thank you for sharing thiss :) I lovee indian food :D
Hi Caroline, I am very happy to see you in the kitchen once again because you are not the Queen of England lol, but the queen of the best chefs and world nay universal. You have your allies cooking your packs and it's saying something. It's a real alien dimension that is difficult to assess on the web. But I know that on the plate your dishes are delicious with love, I dream. Thank you again for this great sharing, friendships, Joselito
