It is not so much that it is a shovelhead that determines the starting technique. It has a lot to do with what carbuerator is on the bike, and if it is "dialed in" correctly, and point gap, timing, magneto versus distributor, etc.

@jerryme72  hahahahahah you dont have a clue. FYI when your kicking a shovel you keep the key OFF for a few kicks. shovels have their quirks and anyone who rides them have their own "combination" I suspect that you and some others have never kick started a shovel in your life.

Almost complety stock. Who needs inovations when ya got it right in the first place? bikerambler2020 really dosn't get it. I've been riding for over thirty years now and have had a few rice burners and after I bought a 1980 FXS I found in an airplane hanger 21 yras ago. I'll never go back. Bought a Street Glide for long trips but I still love my Shovelhead for when I want to set off a few car alarms....
