I was a boy about 10 in the 60's; my mom and I were walking from the Museum of Modern Art in NYC towards the Port Authority in Midtown and she said, "Look, there's Moondog!" Here was this tall, old blind guy with a huge beard like a scruffy Merlin in leather gerkin and heavy cape, holding a big wizard's staff which I guess he used as a guide stick. He must have been selling albums, vinyl in those days, because I don't remember seeing any instruments, and we had his album ever since.

I wish I had known Moondog when he was alive, he was the eccentric's eccentric, and a musician bar none. I was first aquainted with his music in the 60's via the prestige EP.
