Not all of the mebers of the waffen ss were nazis. In school the teacher and the officers from the wehrmacht and from the NSDAP told them that ss men are the best from the best so from their childhood on, they told them to go to the ss or waffen ss. The guys of the ss and waffen ss, were an elite!!! because tey had to comply with the requirements the nazis gave them to join the ss that is my opinion about it
accualy diffmslt3 the 3rd SS totenkopf div was not trained well till the late war like 1944 i think they were just really for the concentration camps. my opa was in that div and well he wasnt a guard he was infantry on ostfron and a lil west front

Best of the best? How about the poor perfomance during the battle of the Bulge? Regulars gained more terrain on the Yanks than the well equiped Waffen-SS. Besides, these guys were Nazi fanatics and therefor crazy dangerous idiots.
Most people don't seem to understand that the WSS as a whole was not elite. The WSS fielded for the most part average units and in some cases sub-standard units. Many people don't seem to understand this. However LSSAH, Das Reich, Totenkopf, Wiking and a few others without doubt elite units as can be seen by their outstanding combat record. T
The Heer also had elite units like Großdeutschland and Panzer Lehr and a few others. The Luftwaffe had the Fallschirmjägers and HG division.

Not true in SS training schools Waffen SS recruits would be heavily bombarded with Nazi ideology.
