i bought this album 10 years ago having heard it on a NuYorica compilation. its just the best mix of funk and latin around thanks to Eddie Palmieri's arrangement
Thanks for posting this one. One of my favorites from the early 70's growing up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan Ave D. I Played this one many times Jammin out the Window in jacob riis houses.
I can't believe I did not comment on this sooner! Can you post Harlem River Drive's dance single "NEED YOU"? Like so many R&B comps. that have been deep-sixed by the Top !00 playlists mafia but has remained a personal favorite in many neighborhoods across the country this particular single should never vanish from the public enjoyment.
The group was assembled by Latin artist Eddie Palmieri and charged with a noble mission: to synthesize the music of urban New York, Latin and funk, into a cohesive whole. With a racially mixed band that counted Cornell Dupree, Ronnie Cuber, Charlie Palmieri and Nick Marrero as members, Harlem River Drive turned heads in concert by having the Latin and black musician open by playing separate sets, only to come together for the main event.
@Buckeyecat2002 Bernard 'Pretty' Purdie on drums too...............a mixed race supergroup making amazing music. It's sad it caused such a stir being mixed....it was 1971 after all....Booker T, The Funk Brothers for Motown, Sly and the Family Stone, the Headhunters all mixed and not without problems from the troubled American public!! Crazy.
Thank you for posting this one. I had this album back in 71 lost it somehow. Great Baritone sax solo by my Idol Ronnie Cuber. If you listen to the words they are as true then as they are today. Timeless message.
one thing's for sure. when they were playin', anyway, none of these cats had idle hands.

Now do you have the courage?
Do you have the will?
Do you have the guts, now - to see a dream fulfilled?
Do you wonder why - tell me do you give a damn?
Do you know whats meant by the rights of Man?
Idle hands
Idle hands
Idle hands

I used to love this cut. It could have been the theme to some throw away blaxploitation movie.
