They can choose not to cover someone for pretty much any reason they see fit and or kick them off their coverage. Which none of your suggestions do anything about. Ok, so what are some insurance companies that don't exclude due to pre-existing conditions? They are all the same because they are in it to make MONEY. They charge more and give out less. The health industry just admitted this very thing in their report that they WILL RAISE COSTS. If that's not a warning that we need a public option, what is?

Yes, under the McCarran-Ferguson Act. However, that applies to the current arrangement where individual states regulate in that area. If Ins. Co.'s were allowed to compete nationaly, anti-trust laws would kick in.

Not those who the health insurance companies refuse to cover. As I mentioned before I know several people who cannot get coverage. One of them is simply because she has tremors in her hands. If my mom wasn't on disability she would not be able to get coverage either because she is diabetic and has pretty serious liver problems. So, no not everyone has the ability to get coverage.

The portability issue is a complete strawman. Under the McCarran-Ferguson Act, ins. co's still can, and do, decide collectively what they will charge in a given state. It is the States, not the fed. gov. that prevents ins. policy portability. Ins. co's already operate across state lines.

Republicans seem to think that everyone can just get whatever they want and if they don't have it then they just aren't trying hard enough. I know a few people who cannot get insurance and all of them work (or their spouse works). It's not because they are lazy and don't work, they are not illegal aliens or any of that other bull crap Republicans try to use to justify themselves, it is because of PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS.

McCain was also a big supporter of the bailouts so we would have gotten the same either way.

Polls rise and fall and Obama was just recently at 57%. Once health care reform is finished and people see that all their paranoia about BS like "death panels" and "socialist health care" was for absolutely nothing, then the polls will rise.
As I recall the polls just prior to the election had Obama and McCain in a dead heat and McCain got spanked in the end (pun intended). So we'll just have to see how it plays out.
