  • Go Paxo!

  • @RicheyOstrowski Yeah - go stuff yourself up the Parson's nose ...

  • kennydee2008

"projects go 10 times over budget". Er, that's Labour actually.

  • I find it almost amusing that Paxman is trying to make Salmond look bad when he is doing quite the opposite! As much as i dislike Alex Salmond when i see an English news presenter attack a fellow Scotsman makes me quite angry. Paxman is fueling the independence of Scotland with his comments! Next time you try to clench the flames of independence try to not outrage so many Scottish people... Many people are voting for Independence for this exact reason. Don't tell us how to rule our country...

  • @SirAndrewMcD At the moment, it is the United Kingdom, so its collectively OUR country as well. So what you are really saying is that if an Englishman says anything that the Scots dont like, that is not allowed because we cant have an opinion? At the moment the SNP/nationalist supporters are being led like donkeys by the village idiot, into an abyss of despair and bankruptcy!

  • Scotand deserves her right as a country to stand alone and be free!!

  • Salmond keeps on talking about how the Scottish people will want Scotland to be governed in the way they want it. Total BS by salmond here. He is a ex-rbs insider, he is globalist to the core and offers the Scottish people nothing but more taxes and misery. The snp cant get anything right here in Scotland, projects go 10 times over budget.. Salmond is a sheep in wolves clothing, not to be trusted.

  • Independence will never happen.. Salmond is a fat wanker who is only looking after himself... His face has been in the public trough for 20 years or more.. People want jobs, people want less tax, people want less restrictions, but under the SNP, none of that will materialise!! More taxes, bigger government, more government!!

  • @stevebairdchef I don't normally run abusive posts, but once in a while I let one through. This says more about stevebairdchef than it says about Alex Salmond or Scotland's independence. Have fun in your Land Rover, stevebairdchef - and in your kitchen.

  • I hope the Scots know they will have to take full responsibility for Northern Ireland.

Scotland will be completely bankrupt once it's no longer living off welfare from England. The oil made up less than one per cent of the UK's earnings last year.

  • @MrRobertJameson Since you're wrong on all counts, I should correct you, but I recognise that approach, so best to agree with you. and say that we will manage without the welfare, subsist on our dribbles of oil, sing 'Flower of Scotland' eat haggis, drink whisky and watch 'Braveheart'. Does that feed enough of your prejudices? Unfortunately, we can't take responsibility for Northern Ireland: that proud people will take responsibility for themselves and decide their own future.

  • @TAofMoridura The Scots colonised Ulster so you will have to take full responsibility for them financially.

King James VI of Scotland began the Plantation of Ulster and all the loyalists/Protestants there are Scots, hence the term "Ulster-Scot".

This referendum is going to cause another Irish civil war.

  • @TAofMoridura Unlock likes so I can like this. Lmao!

  • @MrRobertJameson Northern Ireland will continue to take responsibility for her good self, while remaining Scotland's much loves sister.

The Scottish economy is in the middle of shifting from oil-based to renewables based. We have some of the best natural resources in the world, and are blessed with an abundance of emerging technologies to harness them.

  • "Scotland would also be broke" Paxman.

Why would Scotland be broke? Paxman is a English Nationist.

  • comparing salmond to mugabe = WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS INTERVIEWER? what an idiot!

  • It does annoy me when Paxman interviews someone like this. Why does he have to be so childish? I wish he could at least pretend to maintain an air of impartiality.

As for Salmond, he still seems to base most of his economic projections on the assumption that Shetland (who can truly claim the lion's share of NS oil & gas) would want to be a part of an independent Scotland. That seems unlikely.

  • Wow - just finished watching that and I CANNOT BELIEVE a man of Paxmans experience and supposed intellect and ability would ask such blatantly childish questions...! I'm speechless.... did he "throw" the interview on purpose by deliberately turning it into a farce?

  • Christ. I am embarrassed for Paxman. Some of those questions were elementary at best. Pathetic.

  • seems your average Englishman, has maintained their stance of ignorance. Scotland doesnt need you England. You need us. bye.

  • BRILLIANT Salmond MR UK hahaahaahaahah briliant..... roll on the referendum, paxman did more for the referendum for independance than any campaign ever could... weel done cutty sark... mr salmond, keep laughing at them, you are LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!! ps, can i work for you???

  • Paxman used to be a good interviewer. Why has he become so useless? There are valid arguments for retaining the union, but the best he could manage was this incoherent saloon bar tirade.

Incidentally, as an English scotophile, I find the thought of Scottish independence quite exciting. It would be the most remarkable constitutional event for decades (at least) and it would be completely humiliating for Cameron. As Salmond has said, I can't see it would make much difference to social ties.

  • Jeremy Paxman used to be a great interviewer. I can't believe he can be so stupid. There are some good arguments for retaining the union, why does he have to come out with such nonsense?

Incidentally, despite being an English scotophile myself, I find the idea of Scottish independence quite exciting. It would be the most dramatic constitutional event in decades, and it would have the positive effect of humiliating Cameron. And as salmond says, I don't think it would seriously change the socia

  • Cheers jeremy youre medals in the post for services to scottish independence.

  • @1966thewallace ha ha, you said it !!

  • no wonder alex salmond couldn't stop laughing. that interview and the preamble was ridiculous. paxman is a out of control.

  • Alex salmond you are a legend

  • Long live Emperor Salmond

  • Transporting 24 tons of gold a few hundred miles is hardly an issue, if he thinks the Scottish government couldn't do it - who does he think would rob it. Stupid question!

  • This is hilarious.

  • Salmond making Paxman look an uneducated idiot, love it.

  • Gotta love how the poster of this video criticises everyone on here who disagrees with him/her as being ignorant, yet exudes these qualities themself.

  • That, ladies and gentlemen, was a penis. A disgruntled, pompous one.

  • Wow, Paxman has lost it. This was basically a somewhat controlled on-air meltdown. Say what you want about Salmond, but any time a journalist attempts to grill him, he'll wipe the floor with them(as has been evidenced by other interviews with English BBC anchors), but Paxman's so up his own arse he seemed on a mission to get one over him, and was an image of desperation by the end of it. The Mugabe line was like something out of a satire of BBC's coverage of the Scottish Independence issue.

  • Salmond is a farcical wordsmith. He tells the ignorant masses what he thinks they want to hear. If Scotland becomes independent, what will we do with the currency? This is something that the SNP has never addressed in its fullness. However, Paxman was completely unbelievable, in a serious interview to try and make a joke out of it...I may agree with his views but that was just unprofessional.

  • @chrissyladbin Thanks for calling the Scottish electorate who gave the SNP and Alex Salmond a landslide mandate and who regularly vote him the most popular politican in Britiain "the ignorant masses". Very sour grapes, chrissyladbin.

  • @TAofMoridura here here. another ignorant (probable english voter) who patronises the scottish electorate. Sooner this union is broken the better!

  • @chrissyladbin Click on chrissyladbin and take a look at his/her channel. A vacant space, a bit like the shill views expressed in his/her post.

  • @TAofMoridura Yip !

  • @chrissyladbin We've plenty of time to make the right decision on the currency issue, whatever's the best option for Scotland at that time we'll choose, personally I would trade the oil for gold and print our own money.

  • @chrissyladbin I think the only one that's "farcical" is yourself, we the "ignorant masses" voted for a majority SNP government and perhaps if you actually did some research you'd find that SNP have stated what the currency situation would be namely that Scotland would keep the £ initially, just as Australia did. Grow some brain cells.

  • @chrissyladbin I am part of the "ignorant masses" trade oil for gold and print our own currency. GET THOSE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION OFF OUR SOIL PLEASE. Peace.

  • o its so much fun watching Paxman shake in his chair

  • Salmond does very well here, Paxman's increasingly becoming a caricature of himself.

  • he needs to lay off the Braveheart.

  • Tongue in cheek stuff from Paxman. quite funny really, he's helping the cause.

  • disgraceful journalism.

  • They can fire whoever didnt brief paxman

  • how can he oppose iraq but support Libya ?

Libya was a small armed protests by some tribes which NATO provided close air support and the media tottaly ignored civilian casualties by NATO, or how the rebels have been looting and raping in towns they accuse of being anti rebels since gaddafi's fall

libya had 0 debt and free health care under gaddafi

  • SNP are following a policy of greed, so a few can have the wealth taht should belong to the world. Im Scottish by the way.

  • @rossaldihno What can I say to an inane comment like that?

  • @rossaldihno ....and living in the USA

  • @rossaldihno The Free Market Capitalist System does not work like that, the SNP have no monetary incentive to share it to the world for free. No country in the world gives its resources away for free unless they were invaded. Scotland would only take what geographically is her's which is the standard algorithm set throughout the world, period. Which is better than what I can say for America and Britain, who for decades have invaded and stolen other peoples resources illegally.

  • @rossaldihno you are a joke

  • @rossaldihno as a fellow Scot, I find your comment mildly embarrassing. As well as just plain wrong, in near every conceivable sense.

  • I have come to the conclusion if it were not for TAMoridura I would miss some important parts of the rhetoric being spewed forth by the Unionist and main culprit the BBC.

  • Paxman has turned into Chris Morris

  • Comment removed

  • Oh, joy, i didn't stop laughing for some time after watching that, and then reading the awesome comments posted here. TAofMoria whoever you are, thank you for posting this, you made my day. Paxman is hilarious, wether or not he knows it, and yes, he is somewhat 'amusing'; i'll probably start watching his programmes when we get independence. i shall share this video onwards; for everyone, as many as possible must see this.

  • How could Salmond sit there and listen to that crap without taking off his head. What a bombastic arrogant chunt you are Paxman.

  • Paxman made an arse of himself. Go for it Scotland!!! I just wish Wales had oil and gas reserves so we could be in the same position as you!

  • Sorry to those who'd like to think that Paxo was being a piggy little Britisher, but I don't agree. These guys were having a laugh. Paxo did come in with a few jabs, but that gave Salmond the opportunity to parry and show his conviction in the economic stability of an independent Scotland. Whether you agree with him or not, he was given a golden opportunity to sell his side of things. Mind you, I wish he'd stop being so sickeningly jocular all the time, it's starting to look a little false.

  • It's not gonna be a one party state, it's just that other parties wouldn't be able to compete

  • the snp is a nationalist movement and is comprised of MSPs with different political agendas but the same goal (independance), not a party in its context. once scotland becomes independant, the members will disband and go towards their own beliefs (in this case, political agendas, e.g. conservative scotland, scottish labour etc.) the english want us out, and we want to leave! what are we waiting for?! :3

  • @LulzMania1 I agree with most of that. What we are waiting for is the need to consult the Scottish people, and to let all the rational arguments for and against be fully stated. That's democracy.

There is also the little matter that if the polls are right, we might not achieve independence if we voted now, because people have been fed a non-stop diet of biased unionist propaganda for a generation. If it hadn't been for alternative media, they would have known nothing. Saor Alba!

  • @LulzMania1 To be clear, I don't believe the SNP will disband, but I do believe there will be a re-orientation in Scottish politics as the Scottish unionist parties realise they're now Scottish only, and the Scottish political scene may reflect a different balance of the traditional parties in Holyrood. For me, I'm with the SNP for life, unless they change or compromise on the WMD/nuclear issue.

  • @LulzMania1 we want you out quickly, very quickly! Scotland=a nation of 5 million who think they are a nation of 50. If it wasn't for the dwindling oil resources (which would barely cover your share of the deficit and your massive public sector debt) you'd have very little to support your independence. You've taken off England for too long and needs to end!

  • @Bumcheeksish Cool we want out quickly, we're not prepared to float the UK treasury any more, see you bye.

  • @Bumcheeksish You really need to do some research - it's clear that without Scotland, England risks a run on the pound, the loss of it's 100bln nuclear deterrent, it's seat on the UN and EU, loss of energy independence etc etc. WOOOO!

  • @Bumcheeksish dwindling oil resources? we have 140 years worth of oil left in the north sea and west atlantic coast, oil goes for £110 a barrel and the north sea alone is worth YOUR (westminister's) debt of £1 trillion and the barrel price keeps rising. where do you think America will go to when the Middle East runs out of oil? Westminister feed us bull about Spain vetoing us if we opted for the EU, takes the pandas away from us, saying that if we vote independance but if the -

  • @Bumcheeksish - scotland, but a bill was passed in the house of lords where if shetland and orkney voted the majority of union, then they will be part of the UK. Bearing in mind Westminister doesnt care and will do nothing for its people but just want the oil share. (* Sorry, I meant 40-100 years and $110 a barrel). Also, you havn't stated any facts as to why we have caused your deficit apparently caused by subsidising Scotland xD, please tell me? :D

  • I'm glad the argument boils down to the difficulty of transport arrangements for gold stocks.

  • One party state? Ah, you refer of course to the fact that Scotland has a majority government with feeble opposition. Does this mean every time that's been the case at Westminster Britain could aptly be likened to an autocratic genocidal regime? Paxo sir, you've really lost it. Time to throw in the towel.

  • Paxman has become a parody of himself. Vote YES.

  • Wow this is just a poor performance from paxman, he must really be clutching at straws by comparing salmond to mugabe...independence is inevitable!

  • 1 party which the people have no say in and it has its an ultra-nationalist party....something not right

  • Shocking interview Paxman should be ashamed.

  • Mark Hennessey was spot on.....the BBC as a whole should be ashamed of itself, paxman was just a frontman for wider views!

  • Comparing Alex Salmond to Mugabe just shows how far removed the BBC are to Scotland

That and the labour mp Tom Harris comparing him to Hitler. its one of many springs to independence. keep on the Positive Alex it's working!

  • Paxman has lost it. The questions he asks aren't challenging but confrontational just for the case of being confrontational. I hope the BBC get rid of Paxman (and David Dimbleby for that matter, he's an awful chair on Question Time) and get someone in who can have a proper debate, not an aimless rant full of snipes.

    Good luck Scotland.

  • @moz1983 All the metroplitan interviewers could take lessons from Isabel Fraser (Newsnight Scotland and Sunday Politics Scotland). Unfailingly courteous, but forensic and formidable in questions. The only media interviewer who understands the subtle art of framing questions and getting answers. She will play a highly signifcant role in the great debate until the referendum and the negotiations that will follow it - a debate of profound significance to Scotland, the UK, Europe and the US

  • I hate Paxman's condescending attitude.

  • I found Paxman to be a disgrace in this interview. Speaking over people is no way to conduct an interview at the least to the level respect. That was vile and well done to Alex Salmond for laughing at that clown. He is welcome to his lovely BBC if that's how they'll speak to Scottish politicians.

  • I have complained to all areas of EBC regarding Calling Scotland's First Minister "Mugabe" a murdering dictator, had he said this to David Cameron he would have been sacked immediately following an English outcry.. EBC made more of an issue of Johnathan Ross minor affair on every EBC outlet through jealousy and got him sacked. Paxman should go as his is much more serious..

  • Unbelievable. Rhyddid i'r Alban!

  • Paxman was absolutely disgusting, ill informed and arrogant!

  • Calm, collected and professional. I do hope there are more interviews like this from J Paxman, I would like to think each one is worth it's weight in yes votes.

  • Paxman has certainly done an excellent job of enhancing the prospects of us achieving independence.

  • Paxo (inadvertently) throws his full weight behind independence for Scotland.

  • First class. Jeremy Clarkson.... Sorry Paxman at his very best. This is just the kind of clip which will convince floating voters to go down the independence route. All we need now is for the Torries to wade into the argument and try to dictate when we can vote and what the question should be.... Oh! Hang on a minute?!?

  • Paxman; fair & balanced as always. Git!

  • Thanks for posting this.
