No offense but drinking a beer like this in a wine glass is like pouring a Heineken in a glass and telling someone it's good beer. This got 60 out of 100 on beer advocate plus green bottles tend to "shunk" the aroma. India Pale Ale's are the beer with more complex aromas like grapefruit, mango, pine and floral aromas the list goes on. Lagers are the worst beers (imperial stouts and ipa are the best maybe barleywines) too bad you couldn't review a better beer.
Michael, watched your review again and very entertaining. Yes NZ is Rugby and we now hold the RWC! I am in Australia for a few years for work and have found a beer called James Squires Amber Ale. I like it and im fussy about my beers and Would love to see you review it if you can source it locally, if not more than happy to send you a bottle for the purpose.
NZ has been going through somewhat of a beer renaissance as of late. If you want a great NZ beer, try Emerson's Bookbinder, Epic, Moa, Harrington's, or Yeastyboys. These are some excellent beers that show NZ's great beers.
I love your observations on New Zealand culture "rugby aaarrrgh!". Entertaining review but I don't really agree with your opinion on the beer. Steinlager is ok but there are many better beers brewed in New Zealand.
Yeah! I am sure there are many great beer from New Zealand especially pilsner style brews but I have not had a chance to taste them. Would be grateful if you can point/direct me to a few names that represent the pinnicles of bottom fermenting style lager / pilsner from NZ.
@michaelyblam In NZ this is a pretty average mass produced beer. We have some amazing boutique breweries, like Emersons, Epic, Harringtons, Moa, 3 Boys, etc. that make Steinlager taste like drain water. They'd be hard to find internationally. Might be worth the flight down :)
FUCKEN STEINIES IN UR FACE!!!!! I FUCKEN LOVE STEINIES!! DONT drink it if u cant handle da bitter taste...udawise drink PURES!! da CLASSIC beer is a mans beer, tho ima chik i cant get enuf ov it!!! alternativly il drink ne uda gud tasting beer but STEINIES b my FAVE!!!
its great that your taking a proper tasting approach to the beer but if you want a good NZ beer try one of our great micro breweries Emersons, Epic, Mata, Wigram to name a few. and if your set on a lager try one of our pilsners, NZ has a great climate for saaz hops giving a uniquely NZ take on the brew. happy drinking p.s. its maori not maouri
wtf? the cleaness? the nose is beutiful? sumptious? flowery? i hate to dissapoint you bru but its fuckin beer.. not crack.. theres not that much to it.
Thats if you can call grid iron footy, down here we call ariel ping pong, fuck you're pussy ass american brews lol bud lite horse piss what a joke. We drink real home brew like stag drink some of that you'll spew you're ring out boy, sorry to burst you're bubble you big headed yank tool.
What the hell is wrong with you. Why do you have to be so f'ing aggressive. Back of looser and calm the fuck down. God you are so a n idiot. And no your reply s wated in me. I said what I said and I stand by it 100% so there hehe!
What he said Steinys are a very good drop imho. Corona Heineken Waikato tui speights doesnt worry me so long as its cold. And the maoris dont go blahlalala traditionally when they do the hakka they go blah and sought of a hiss and a growl but no worries, keep going blahlalalalala i wont try and stop you, good review.

your drinking beer out of a fucking wine glass you tosser
and new zealnd has great beers I work for a brewery shows how little you know about this place we're legend beer drinkers not wine makers god crawl back under the rock you came out of
It REALLY shows how blatantly ignorant you ARE! Putting aside wine/beer, a glass (notice I do not say wine glass) of this tulip shape: 1.will hold the temperature better than a pint glass; 2.the thin glass is better to examine the clarity of the beer but most importantly 3.the tulip shape traps the aroma and allows one to study the beer better than beer glasses. I drink beer with beer glasses but I taste beer with glasses that maximise the beer.
and this leads me to think you are the one who think you know a lot but with limited knowledge. I have been researching beer for 26 years from grain farming/ hops types / yeast types / beer and anthropology...you name it. The more I know the more humble I am so please do not prejudge and stop using that foul languages your parents teach you.
what is wrong with you seriously! where do you get off acting like since you do something one way everyone else should, if you truly want to take in a beers complexity a wine glass is the best choice. you are the true face of hate and iggnorance.
does she really? hell i met a girl that smelled like tuna....not cool......and i didnt taste. and i dunno bout that, he seems to know his beers. great vids i think
I am not going to remove your message so that everyone knows who you are and see that your are a disgrace of your parents, your country and of the human race.
750ml, 5% and easy going! nice one! thx for your videos Michael. Zywiec is 5.6 (in France 5.5%?) quite strong, (but I can't feel it). And Czech beers are my favorites... Dark Kozel, Bernard, Urquell, etc. cheerz M.
It's hard to imagine NZ can come out with such a tasty brew. Call/email me if you are in the Vancouver area of BC. Love to take you to sample some really good local brews!
Yeah! You are right - there are many great brews from all corners of the world but when beer is usually discussed, traditional countries like Czech / Slovakia, Germany, Belgium, UK etc. usually pop up first - agree? Also, there isn't such a thing as the BEST beer but great quality brews...
Yes! I look forward to taste many brews from New Zealand. I came across Josh Scott of Moa Beer recently at a wine tasting in Vancouver and I cannot wait to taste his brews (using true Champagne method!)...
agreed, steinlager is pretty much seen as a chemical beer. The more boutique brews, like Emmersons, epic, tuatara etc are generally regarded as far better
am from NZ, and this beer is discusting, to be ohnest all of NZ beer is not good (lion red, tui, export, they're all horrible and have no flavour, structure or substance, taste like flavoured water)... even corona that tastes like water is 1000000 times better than NZ's premium beer.. truth..
This Ridel glass is one of the best vessels of tasting beverages whether it's beer, wine or whisky in my opinion. I have tested and tried many shapes including different conventional beer tumbler and sleeves. Please could you give me some sound advice of how to approach a beer tasting with your expertise? Thanks a million.
LOL thanks for the review, I hope you didn't drive the scrum through your beer!.
Steinlager is a very distinctive beer, and as a result it polarizes opinions. You either like it or you really don't like it. I love it because it is very bitter compared to a lot of lagers out there.
Although I have travelled to almost 30 countries in the past, I have never been to New Zealand. I hear hiking in the South Island is simply fantastic. Love to do that as well as going to watch some local rugby matches. Most of all and of course, it's a must to samples a few good drinks. Nice talking to you - have a great week! (I am heading to s Bordeaux tasting today!)
Yes! I will eventually. I have been very busy and have not done any filming but I will! You drink wine? I love many Pinot ad merlot from your country...they are very fruit driven and clean wines and reasonably comlex...

why is the sound always a little off in your videos

Because I used a simple Cannon camera and for some reasons there is a time delay...I don't quite understand why to be honest.

Don't upload directly AVI as produced by Cannon but convert it to divx. Delay is caused by shity codec of original AVI.
