nice sound, however, I'm not sure I agree with "surreal and dream-like atmosphere present in much of the book ", in fact, I think this is Murakamis only 'realistic' book. there's no strange alternate dimension or anything like that
for me it may be imprints of his other novels and their surrealism... but the sanatorium, you didn't think it was surreal? i definitely felt it was a place where time moves differently (if at all), and all those strange minds coexisting, interacting within it... Murakami doesn't spell it all out but the sense from the text for me was something of the sort. and Naoko's world, that we get only a glimpse of?? to her character i think the trailer could be quite fitting. not 100% but what is right
I Have been reading Murakami for a while now and I began with Sputnik Sweetheart. About 2 months ago I began reading Norwegian Wood and so far I am absolutely . . . . well sucked into the world that Murakami creates.
Amen to that. She's my favorite character in the book and was a big reason why Norwegian Wood is my favorite novel. And I did know a girl a little like Midori, at least, Midori definitely reminded me of her.
sounds to me u havent read much Murakami novels, that 'fantasy-like' quality is his signature style. only in norwegian wood it seems he wanted to reach a larger audience (which he eventually did)and deliberately let out too much of his signature surrealistic prose. to some true Murakami fans Norwegian Wood is somehow even considered a sell out, blaming it to be too mainstream and too different from his original style. You should really read his other work as well
I strongly disagree with that silly "mainstreamism". I've read all his work, including Sputnik and the Chronicle, and I still think Tokio is one of his best books -if not the best. It was absolutely touching, beautiful and poetic. It was impressive. And, of course, is the best choice when reading Murakami for the first time. If only I understood why adults don't seem to like it as much as teenagers do. It's funny! ;D
My favorite part is when the dykes scissor their muffs.

That acoustic guitar was somehow familiar... Logic bread&butter sample?

@Peite Actually I used two different recordings and spliced them together. I only used Logic to tweak the levels.

Don't be so hard... Express the complexities of Murakami's world is quite difficult, so nice job anyway, heh! ;)

looks like a trailer to a horror book.

@kuzcat
Not surreal the term is magical realism.

It made the great novel sounding like some cheap Japanese horror movie to me

the graphic is ok, but i somehow feel The Norwegian Wood without some Jazz track is incomplete : ) Some tongue in the cheek humour would do as well

N.wood novel is great, but this video is like from some horror..

this is a good work, but for some reason the atmosphere the video convey do not remind me at all of the novel.
Norwegian Wood to me it seems all but surreal. a little oniric perhaps, but quite grounded.
it's the only murakami novel i've read so i dunno much of the author. it sort of reminded me italian author De Carlo, but Murakami's book is better.
and yes, Midori rocks!

Sorry to hear that.
i simply love the way Murakami unravels the characters and weaves their detached and estranged lives, into one almost melodic flow of concious.

I felt so much connection when reading this book!I understand Naoko alot, feel like her myself most of the time... :(
