let The Rythm Hit 'Em is seriously the dopest, most exemplary joint probably ever penned by an MC - and that means Nas, that means GZA, Immortal technique, even K-Rino - because his flow and erudition eclipses all who dare to step to this brother. Straight up Hip-Hop!!!!
The real sad thing about Rakim's legacy is that it gets overshadowed by the morons of the present day era of tight jeans, fake swag, autotune, CO's, fake blood music. I mean Rakim should be richer than all these muthafuckas if hip hop was as true today as it was in the 80's and 90's. You really don't need talent anymore...go do what you do wack niggas its time to make money :)
In 1995 i use to produce under the legend DJ Clark kent , threw clark i met the God rakim a few times..That cat is a real dude...its really crazy that todays rappers
dont mind saying the same shit the other dude said or even looking the same.
This swagg thing is so wack , Rakim had real swagg but it never was about him his songs never was about i got this and i got that...you rapp cats need to stop being afraid to be creative..peace
Rakim Still Walkin This earth, So You Can't Say that Rap is Dead, Its Just Not Shining Right Now. This Lil Wayne Shit is Whats In the SpotLight. But Look Underground And you can Find Nas, Rakim, Wu-Tang, AZ. They are all spittin real Hip-Hop.
Wow. I can't believe Eric B would do something to Rakim. Both of them made each other rise to the top of Hip Hop, but does that mean you have the hunger for more to take what's not yours like extorting your Man?! What type of drugs Eric B was smoking?!
Some may follow, but nobody will get ahead, it's that simple. Rakim is impeccable, so fluid he's off-the-hook Dope, liquid Gold! Man, this brother is like opium to the ears; you can free-base The "R" off the speakers, no other MC comes even close: he was at his zenith in 86, and today he's twilight years ahead, both lyrically and philosophically. God said: Let there be Hip-Hop. And there was The "R".
Eric was a thug from Brooklyn who was known for taking production credits from Large Pro as well as threatening Kool G Rap(for speaking up about the Large Pro conversation)He even tried to extort Rakim but RA had his own crew from Wyandach Long Island that would die for him. I met one of RA's boys at a college party in Long Island back then and he told me how they were always ready for Eric B if he ever decided to try and initimidate RA.
I kinda feel sorry for him after watching this. He seems like a broke man whose choices led him not exactly where he expected in his career. But still he made a choice not to change for anybody even Dre. Gotta respect that
Bangin visuals. Great interview: He seldom gets this personal. I'M SO GLAD I GREW UP DURING THE GOLDEN AGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhh. Otherwise I wouldn't have any concept of rap. Don't get me started.
Damn I so respect Rakim its not even believable. Many many many many many many I mean many many many damn people consider Rakim to be one of the if not the best emcee of all time. Yet he remains so humble. So true to himself never thinking of making big money, never selling out, cuz he could easily do that. If he wanted he would be the biggest thing out on the radio, but thank god he didn't because i love him for that and respect him so much just for that.
@WeezyDrakeYoungMoney Jay isn't shit on Rakim. Rakim is the fucking nigga who created the concept of flow. Cockafellas know they can't fuck with Rakim. 2pac and Nas are pretty even with him though.
the best album was Don't Sweat the Technique pound for pound...18th letter had like 3 good joints, the Master had like 4 but the new one has NONE! I'm from Chicago, Ra was like Jordan back in the day-not now.
@WeezyDrakeYoungMoney Don't talk like you know. If you did any research whatsoever, you would know that Rakim's influence sparked the style and thus careers of some of the dopest lyricists in hip hop like Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, even down to Nas, who was like Ra's protege. Stick to commenting Young Money videos like the rest of the hip pop brainwashed generation.
@WeezyDrakeYoungMoney No, but Ra has managed to remain consistently one of the deepest most lyrical rappers in the game and would have remained extremely popular if he didn't split form Eric B. and then not make an album for 5 years. Plus, the only rappers that come close to Rakim's level after him were Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap and Nas. No other rapper has been able to match his wordplay or the depth of his lyrics.
@WeezyDrakeYoungMoney no i'm not retarded. i've experienced real hip-hop era and your young ass did not! you lil young motherfucker. you're 19 years old...don't tell me shit. you were in kindergarten when eminem came out....go fuck yourself
I love Rah from the beginning, (My all time Favorite) but this new album is real wack! Sorry to say. Wish he would rhyme to those ill break beats again because his lastest sound makes him stoop down to the level of his production & he sounds just as weak as his beats. I am a believer that no matter how ill an emcee is when their beats are wack their output naturally drops & they become mediocre on that track, trust me I've seen it happen to every dope artist from the golden era!
Big Up to Rakim for not selling out to Dre trying to be something that he's not....much respect! He never really said why he split up with Eric B just that he said he was going to do him.....seems kinda weird after the success they had together. I heard it was about money, not sure.......

Rappers take note! THIS IS WHAT AN MC IS
And who said you couldn't have lyrics AND swag.
Rakim had it all, the total package.
So fuk outta here with these lame excuses of why you can't be lyrical no more and you gotta have swag and money to be a nice rapper.
Just a pathetic reason to accept mediocrity and the dumbed down ignorant mentality in our society.
