  • Great work mate. I have a VOX Tonelab SE, which I might try to use your settings with and see how close I get to the tone. Although, I have a Satch JS1200 Ibanez. Be interesting as a starting point though.

  • the tone is pretty close, that playing doesn't sound like Vai - it sounds like yourself, and that's a good thing! Nice playing man!

  • bravo!!!!!!you ar realy good!!!!!

  • amazing....

  • Have Yoy given that thought about the "Crunchin an apple in the sommersunlightened mornin"?...Catch that and U might get closer than a typerwriter, man ;)

  • are you jesus

  • maybe it isnt like steve vai but dude.....love the sound it was incredible!!

  • Cool! Cool! Cool! Please) alcohol74@inbox.ru

  • thank you!!!

  • Why there are in here so many comments underestimating what he is doing ? As you can see he is not a Steve Vai wannabe. Its his only Steve Vai song. He proposed himself to TRY to achieve SV sound as a curiosity, educational, whatever . Nothing more than that... i dont see why some people say that has to be much more than amps, guitar, etc and its all about finguers, and that he should have his own sound

  • sounds great. try and get you're own sound.....

  • Steves sound is on his own fingertips ))) I bet you recognize mrVai at any guitar with any rig

  • @fuckinlordsamaels except when he changed his name to Reckless Fable hehe. And when I heard Juice on the radio, I had no idea who it was because he changed his sound back to that "guess who" sound, then the solo made me realize it was him. Was hard to figure out who was playing on Bill and Tedd's Bogus journey at first because a lot of guys were copying him at that time. Now it's easy to tell after all he's put me through hehe.

  • what are the effects u r using?thx

  • Great sound, you tend to be a little flat while bending, no biggie :)

  • YeAHA THIS IS SOOO COOL, IT MAKES ME JIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ;)

  • Love it.

  • wow, hell yeah man, that sounds great in the mix!!!

  • AWESOME

  • Yeah that's pretty close! I hear some mid-high freq that shouldn't be there to get a bit closer to Vai's tone, but that's just great.

    Amazing playing BTW

  • Yessssss

  • try to play the audience is listening..

it's can be perfect for you to try new sounds

  • stop trying... because you got it. steve's sound that is.

  • are u using a legacy at all? cause im having trouble getting his tone through it and idk what to do..ive come close but i just dont seem to have that roundness to his tone and whenever i switch to my neck pickup it gets kinda muddy help??

  • would this work in guitar rig 4?

  • how you obtain the sustain?,

  • You're a gifted player, so please don't take this the wrong way, but I'm afraid there's more to getting an artists 'sound' than just matching the tone of the instrument from a recording.

The tone of the instrument, your technique, phrasing and dynamics must also match the artists.

You more or less have Vai's tone from some of his earlier recordings, but I'm afraid that's all. Your technique and phrasing, such as how you bend, slide and hit the notes are lacking.

  • Oh man, that just sounds so smooth and sweet. Awesome playing too man!

  • teach me man..

  • Thanks for sharing this - now, can anyone do the same using just a Zoom G7.1ut system!!!!

  • get the jemini distortion pedal

  • its very close.. yup the pickup is important. coz evo has high output and fat sounds..

  • the dimarzio pickup is very important no ? I have a rg350dx and I think i can't make this sound, Sorry for my english write but i'm french

  • WOW!!!! You nailed the tone and feel of this. I think Steve himself would be proud!

  • Fantastic sound, but even fantastic fingers.

    Greetings man!

    Lorenzo (:

  • this is sounds so amazing

  • molt bo

  • Hey, what tab did you use for your version of the Crying Machine? I've been trying to find a good version on the internet.

  • what kind of pedals do you use? cause ive got an amazing multi pedal called a "zoom 505 ii guitar" its got millions of effects distortion, delay, robotisers, etc google it you should find it

  • wich song is that, can you pls tell me?

  • @lukaa9 i think its the crying machine

  • @miclain1995 ty man :D

  • AMAZING!

  • nice and nice vibrato

  • Two Thumbs WAY up Bro!!!

  • woow awesome! YOu got his sound

  • You need his fingers to make that sound.

  • Can I suggest slightly less gain.

  • nice and i am very jelous of your amazing jem

  • you are a genious.

  • Guys, I have a challenge question here. What pickups should I use to get a swampash body guitar with an ebony fingerboard to sound exactly like the Jem7v, especially at the neck. Please help me here. Thanks.

  • Alzheimer in your bending?

  • Amazing! great sound!

  • good video!!!!!!!! and great guitar

  • Good playing. I think the tone is very accurate. Is DS-1 the main distortion, or are you using that as a boost?

Vai uses DS-1 as a booster only, and uses either distortion in one of his rack units or just the amp distortion on his Legacy.. Also, his DS-1 is keeley-modded to have more volume and mid range than the stock one.

  • @ai4281

DS 1 is a distortion pedal...

    I think vai uses a TS9 as a booster...

  • @joaoalex A lot of people use DS-1 as a booster. Just because it is marketed as a distortion pedal by BOSS, it doesn't mean you have to use it that way. Plus, most overdrive pedals and distortion pedals sound similar at low gain settings anyways. Steve Vai used to use the DS-1 and a booster, but I think he only uses his Jemini nowadays.

  • @ai4281 In his video, promoting the Jemini, he claims that it is a a distortion and a booster, and if you analise the circuit, and search in the ibanez/other sites, you will see that the distortion is based on the DS1 and the booster is based on the TS9

  • @joaoalex and yes, he used to use a DS1 and a booster, being the booster a TS9 ;)

  • @joaoalex and yes, you are right, a lot of people use the DS1 as a booster, sorry about "contradicting" you there ;)

  • Very sweet. I wish I was as tight as this. Love your trills.

  • Thought i was listenin to steve vai there for a second lol VERY nice man!!!

  • you have so annoying vibratos

  • exellent

  • sounds more like satch

  • Try mids and bass on 7 and treble on 6 or 8 ^^

It works pretty well for me even thought I play with an Ibanez Grg 170 Dx (crappy pickups)

  • Comment removed

  • Holy crap you nailed Vai's tone!

  • make the sound a little bit fatter and add a little bit distortion

  • I think that sounds better then vai's sound personally

  • yep, smoother and not so acidly-thin. becose of youtube and mixdown))

  • I dont know if its because you arnt through an amp, but it sounds thin and more metal sounding than vai is, vai's tone is more stevie ray vaughn than metallica in tone. - primo playing tho.

  • Using the settings provided by daniellazarus you get a sound really closer to Vai but only with Di Marzio Evolution pickups.

I own an Ibanez RG350DX with Seymour Duncan pu's and you need to modify these settings.

After changing you'll have a good Vai's sound

  • which sound card do you use?

  • very nice mann

  • that sound impressed me

  • I'm definitely impressed. Vai would be proud.

  • how do you record from guitar rig?

  • Can you tell me what you used for this special setting? A program or an effect pedal? which?

This does really sound like steve vai, and the playing also. awesome!!!

    thanks a lot.

  • im glad you have basic reading skills

its in the fucking description you moron

  • @jian2069 i didnt see it idiot, fucking hater haven't you got better things to do?

  • sorry it just really bothers me that people dont read descriptions half the time

  • @jian2069 its ok but just don't use vulgar language, it sounds like from a hater

  • That is crazy, that sounds so much like Steve Vai. You did a great job replicating the sound!

  • you must make one with the 'for the love of god' sound!

  • 10/5 for your playing and 1000000/5 for your info!!!Thank you for sharing it!Keep going

  • The Crying Machine !!!!!!

  • Very nice playing!

  • how about some whammy bar??

  • You dont need to sound like Steve. The must important is lydian mode and Steve-style slides

  • you mean legato slides.

And he uses more than just the lydian mode.

  • Do you know what else he uses, I'm interested?

  • I've hurd him use Phrygian & Phrygian Dominant before.

He uses trills, artificial harmonics, natural harmonics, alternate picking, legato (quite alot)

Generally trying to get Steve Vai's sound is sort of difficult, good luck!

  • which degree of the scale is that one again?

  • Creo recordar que el modo lidio es el cuarto grado. En una base en DoM, el modo lidio sería Fa lidio

  • 4th degree of the major scale :)

  • @Gameglitcha TYVM ;)

  • Well done on everything there!

You would get six stars if lousy Youtube would give them.

  • u freaking nailed his tone

  • Can you make a blue powder cover please?

  • Blue Powder is a very hard theme to learn!!! :)

  • excelente

  • Yougot his tone perfect! but one thing you couldve added was his whammy hits he does

  • you really need to upload that sound fella

  • You got it as far as I'm concerned... Great

  • pass me the tab maan, you are very good! nice song, nice cover

  • He should do Bad Horsie!!! =D

  • Can you give me the tabs of this plz ?

  • Great tone!

  • are you use stevie vai's naked trakcs?

  • You motherfucker kill

  • Nice groove !

  • i comend you on a good job getting the tone but why copy someone else why not make your own tone

  • he probably does, but the fact that he has good ears to pick out the nuances of another great guitarist makes him a better player. when you come with your own, you tend to have to play around with some of your favorite sounds to incorporate them into your own. me I like Satriani, Any Summers, Jeff Beck, and David Gilmour. Now imagine all those tones wrapped into one!

  • its plugged into m audio usb interface with my guitar in it if that makes sense...

  • great tone for soloing, but it doesn't sound as good at the riffs

  • i have a noob question, i just downloaded the demo of this, but i can't get the sound to come out of my monitor wtf?

  • how is it plugged in

  • amazing how did you get the notes to sustain more does your axe have a sustaniac?

  • it dont matter on just ur processor weather its intel or amd.. if you record it through a half decent camcorder u'll get tons better quality n better sync of sound and video.. problem with p.cs is if your using mic and a webcam ur buggerd.. if ur usin webcam as a mic and webcam u can sitll be pretty buggerd i know me self cant seem to sort it out.. =.= tried everythin =[

  • do steve vai's 30 hour practice junk for a few years then you can be better than him

  • LOL!!!

  • @anosan i have that practice and i do a shortened basic version of it i find it to be a fantastic practice regime theres some good tips in there

  • you are steve vai?nope that why u cant sound like him but nice sound anyway

  • How do you plug the guitar into your computer. Im having difficulty. I dowloaded guitar Rig 3 and i plug my guitar through the amp into my microphone port and no sound. Help please

  • get something which is called an audio interface..

  • Dude really nice :) if you want a completly steve sound get the jemini distor and the legacy amp!!!!

  • ok thanks

  • i don't understand....

  • sound like steve vai

  • very very god sound its a steve vai music or you composite this by you

  • this is crying machiene of fire garden album.

  • I you close my eyes I would say Vai :D

  • you've got it

  • wow! I know the recording quality and playback on youtube probably clips a lot of personality out of the sound, but I think you hit it head on my friend :)

  • you can't ever get someones exact tone or sound... its in the fingers... go to any guitar store with your friend that plays guitar as well as you and plug one guitar into one amp, play then have them play with out touching the settings the tone will sound different. but you can get close if you try

  • iv got the ibanez jem 7v to but what effects do i need to get that sound i kno theres delay in there but what els????

  • Sweet m8. Good job

  • really nice man!

  • whats that vai song ur playing ????

  • The crying machine. ;)

  • Awesome job man!

  • How did you get the sound though? More than the guitar? What amps effects?

  • its called GUITAR RIG 3 its really awsome! I just got it. If you have a really fast PC I suggest getting it. It will not work very well on slow computers. You just wont get the disired sounds.

  • I have a Core i7 and theres delay I cant play, maybe ppl need Version 2 beceause its impossible to play with that delay

  • I have a Core i7 also and i dont get any delay.

  • You need a better sound card

  • its a jem555 not jem7v

  • Believe me... It's a real JEM! :)

  • It's a 7V. 555 only has the leaf inlay halfway up the neck

  • @rockmaster002 its a 7v, the fretboard has a full tree of life ;)

also, that tone is kick ass !

  • sweet! : )>

  • Just tried it out, awesomeness. My Attempt was too overloaded and inaccurate. Great Playing btw

    Cheers^^

  • very very good man !!

  • 12,000th view!!

    Nice vid!

  • songname?

    sounds really cool :p

  • No matter what some hatters said.... you nail it my friend! Great Job!....

  • Bravo, sounds like Via to me!! Good job.

  • Number 1 way to get laid no matter what you look like: Pick up the guitar!

  • that was a sexy sound at 1:39- 1:40. i love ibanez and the jem especially. such high quality guitars

  • id say you have the "gear" part of the tone down. much of vai's tone comes from his fingers. work on that and you can get it perfect.

  • very good job !

  • Hey Daniel...lovely sound mate, ...all this just from Guiatr Rig 3? I couldnt get a decent sound out of it myself but I didnt really spend much time on it but after hearing this I better put some time in......inspired me ;-)

Whats the name of that song? I really liked it...kinda sounded a bit santana?

    Cheers

  • the crying machine :') lol

  • Cheers....really good track....must get the album its on. Going back to the sound of Vai...on his Passion and Warfare album he sounds like he is using some sort of chorus on his lead tone...what the heck is it cos it makes his lead sound so thick....Im absolutley sure Satch on the live side of his Time Machine album is using the same thing.....listen to Cryin and tell me that is just an amp and distortion cos it aint.....I have to figure out what though as its drivin me nuts.....

  • wah maybe? i might be thinking of something different tho

  • really well done! You have quite the ear for tone!

  • Wow, a JEM and a SATCH guitar. I'm jealous.

  • Wow! That's really close!

    Good job

  • what pickups are those?

  • im gonna have a shot in the dark and sayyyy........ DiMarzio evolution pickups

  • Exactly, these are the original ones. :)

  • Comment removed

  • guitar rig is just a software.

  • Comment removed

  • You are very wrong - the foot pedal you refer to is called rig kontrol which is simply an interface and a trigger for the software but i am correct when i say that guitar rig is the name of the software and only the software.

The interfaces are mobile, session, kontrol 1 2 & 3. But they are not the guitar rig,the software is called guitar rig - end of discussion!
