@Gaidaross what genocide?Roza was Jewish originated and genocide to Jews was at the World War 2nd and in Middle and Eastern Europe..Roza in her famous period gave concerts in Turkey too and was liked a lot!So before claim anything, you have to read a lot!Any speculative and provocative comment won't be replied.
@mparmparos ... There is not such thing as jews genocide. That's what they claim. Armenian and Greek-Pontians yes. Roza's family however moved to Thessaloniki in 1900 (aprox) and they were Sefardim (jews of Spain) So I agree she didn't have to face any genocide. They just moved from Konstantinoupoli to Thessaloniki mostly for economic reasons and not for domestic. but all these are irelevant. ROZA was one and only always and forever.
as about Roza... we can only thank her and be greatfull for her determination to be an artist and give to the world her God gifted voice. and like Savaides says the tsakisma on the amanes of the video... Gia sou Rozita mou aidoni... tis Ellados.
@mparmparos nice video. For the history, the Church that you are dipicting on the video giving the titile Istnabul, is actually Called Aghia Sophia which means Holly Wisdom (of the Wisdom of God and not Sofia the name that some people think). Secondly the name of the city is Constantinople. (Latin- Constant+ Greek- Polis =city) Istanbul comes from the hellenic phrase: is tin Poli = To the city, which wrongly the ottomans thought it is a name: istinpoli - istanbul...
I know all what you wrote. But while stating the name of the city,I didn't need to write also where it's in Istanbul. The name of Istanbul comes from eis thn polh but the name of the city is Istanbul now as it was 100 years ago in the video. Thanks for your information although I know them..

Roza visited and performed in Istanbul in 1953 or 1954 accompanied by her three other Istanbul born colleagues: Lambros Leondarides on lyra, Agapios Tomboulis on ud and Lambros Savvaides on kanun. The owner of Balkan Records in NYC, an Albanian, organized a series of recordings (sung in Greek, Turkish and both) which also included the musicians Sukru Tunar (clarinet), Udi Hrant, Kemenceci Parasko (Lambros' brother who had stayed in Istanbul), Ali Kocadinc (darabuka) and others.
Roza is still famous in Turkey. I was in Istanbul two weeks ago and there was a shop in Istiklal Avenue that played her song "Diki Mou Ine I Ellas" from morning till night!
