I think Kirkland has good skills. He's just VERY offensive minded, so sometimes he puts defense on the back burner as he looks to catch his opponent with big shots. They say that the best defense is a good offense, but defense is definitely needed at the top levels of boxing.
kirkland is in GREAT shape and that is why he can take on anybody. But he lacks skills that his trainer cant teach him. I think Anne Wolfe (his female traner) is an excellent condition trainer, that lady is a beast, but if u look at Jame's style, he lacks the proper skill. If he could learn the right skills from a good trainer kirkland will has the potentials of being one of the best. On the contrary, if he doesn't learn more he might get a boxing lesson my someone like shane mosley for example

He was sentenced to 24 months. The court credited him 6 months for time served already and he can get out 100 days early for good behavior. Then when he has 6 months left in his sentence he will be transferred to a halfway house and allowed to start training for his next fight.
Kirkland is an exciting fighter but I can't say that he has greatness written on him. Never saw him as a future pound 4 pounder. But he does have a good punch and he takes a good one too. A slick counter puncher would have undone him, though.

Kirkland is rugged and strong, but he isn't really fast or athletic. Sure Roach or Mayweather could find a way to help him with his D, but he couldn't pull off some of the defensive manuevers Roach and Mayweather teach their guys. Hook him up with Winky Wright and have him learn that D Winky used later in his career where he comes forward, no crazy or really fast movement, but you just can't hit him.

I'm not going to pretend I know how this all works but, I'm pretty sure I just watched Bute fight Magee on HBO a couple weeks ago. I'm pretty sure Ward is only signed with Showtime through the Super Six.
Is Sergio exclusively on HBO?

After analyzing many Kirkland fights he still has a long way to go before he can fight Sergio without good head movement Kirkland would get hit too much by Sergio and we all know just how hard Sergio can hit after watching him KO Pwill and Dzinziruk......... Once james gets better head movement and defense he'll be a great matchup for Sergio I can even see him Knocking out Sergio!

so Kirkland is calling out Sergio Martinez now. Be careful what you wish for James. He hasn't been in with the quality of opponents that Sergio has fought. Looks like Kirkland takes wide looping punches and leaves himself open ala Paul WIlliams. And he has been rocked by fighters like Joel Julio and Allen Conyers. Sergio takes short fast punches up the middle and should beat him to the punch.

Great fight but this precisely how to curtail your career. This also reiterates what Mayweather says in that it is not cool to take punches. I couldnt agree more. Whats the point in making the crowd cheer and stand up ovations etc etc if you leave your brains all over the ring floor.

Joel Julio a solid but average fighter, he caught Kirkland clean on a number of occasions here - from what I have heard I expected much more from Kirkland. I hope he proves me wrong, but he doesn't seem to have the speed nor the attitude to mix it with the best, at all.

Man I still can't wait for the Angulo Kirkland fight. James Kirkland gets out of jail on the 17th of September. Angulo's been more active since the sentence of Kirkland but Kirkland is still a beast so I can't call this one unles Kirkland shows no rust in his first fight back. I will have Kirkland as the victor but you never know. Both goes for the knockout.

I think Kirkland has good skills. He's just VERY offensive minded, so sometimes he puts defense on the back burner as he looks to catch his opponent with big shots. They say that the best defense is a good offense, but defense is definitely needed at the top levels of boxing.

kirkland is in GREAT shape and that is why he can take on anybody. But he lacks skills that his trainer cant teach him. I think Anne Wolfe (his female traner) is an excellent condition trainer, that lady is a beast, but if u look at Jame's style, he lacks the proper skill. If he could learn the right skills from a good trainer kirkland will has the potentials of being one of the best. On the contrary, if he doesn't learn more he might get a boxing lesson my someone like shane mosley for example

He was sentenced to 24 months. The court credited him 6 months for time served already and he can get out 100 days early for good behavior. Then when he has 6 months left in his sentence he will be transferred to a halfway house and allowed to start training for his next fight.

Kirkland is an exciting fighter but I can't say that he has greatness written on him. Never saw him as a future pound 4 pounder. But he does have a good punch and he takes a good one too. A slick counter puncher would have undone him, though.

Kirkland is rugged and strong, but he isn't really fast or athletic. Sure Roach or Mayweather could find a way to help him with his D, but he couldn't pull off some of the defensive manuevers Roach and Mayweather teach their guys. Hook him up with Winky Wright and have him learn that D Winky used later in his career where he comes forward, no crazy or really fast movement, but you just can't hit him.

@moey78612 Who has Mayweather Sr actually helped? LOL. Kirkland is MUCH more improved since getting knocked down in the Conyers fight. He does not just walk in, he comes in with jabs or head movement. Believe me if he just walked in and got caught by Julio, good night. A lot of those punches did not land flush, but the ones that did proved he has a cast iron chin.
