The programme was Get Set For Summer and it was a short-lived thing between Swap Shop ending and Saturday Superstore starting. Yazoo recorded the theme song for it.
Quartet was a landmark album - like Human League's Dare or Kraftwerk's Man Machine. If someone is interested in this era they are must-have albums. Great, great stuff indeeed.
is it just me or does billy look pissed at something at the beginning of this? love the shot of warren at 0:43. lovely man that one is still. love you warren.
There 2 ill people who dislike this performance but I think they clicked they wrong button; is it possible to dislike this kind of pure and bright melody??? Is it possible not to feel something while listening. However, I think that there must be people for everything in this world...
Waren das Zeiten..... absolute Lieblingsband seinerzeit. Hab den Klavierpart auf und ab nachgespielt . Schade, daß man damals so wenig Möglichkeiten hatte, sich alles anzusehen.Dafür jetzt und hier!
Ultravox might be one of the most underrated band of the 80´s, they were the beatles of the 80´s, full of romanticism and original and melodic sounds, Midge Ure is the voice of the romantic people of this world and Currie is his close ally on keyboards
@ johnnyswitchblade & foxwinter: as a new wave & synth fanatic I starved in the 90s... in my point of view, hip hop punk skaters & grunge jesuses hat no real "style" to look up (some exeptions: industrial or cyberpunk like nin, cubanate), it was all about "lay back yourself and inhale"....
jeszcze raz oszaleć, walić łbem w życie, tarzać się w młodości, nie dbać o dobre wychowanie i obecnych. To już nie będzie mi dane, ale mogę posłuchać jak kiedyś byłem szczęśliwy. New Romantic po raz drugi.
@MazioPL To były piękne czasy. Szkoda, że już nie wrócą... :( Mój wierny radiomagnetofon stereo, poniedziałek, Tomek Beksiński i "Romantycy muzyki rockowej". O ile dobrze pamiętam, płyta "Quartet" była emitowana przed wakacjami 1989 roku. Oszalałem na jej punkcie!
Aw, be fair. The eighties were just as vapid and shallow as the modern decade, we just didn't notice because we were kids. Our music wasn't better, we were just young, and youth is what was truly golden about the era. At least in this 2000 era we get to enjoy 80's nostalgia before it is truly "oldies" XD
@eternallyfoxwinter Well I was born in '92, and I've lived through this new decade as a youth, and I don't like anything about it aside from the advent of new technology. As far as pop culture goes, I think the 80s was alot more interesting and stylish, and there are a variety of different styles of music back then that don't even exist today. So this is just from a teenager's perspective.
Ah. That is another side to the coin. There was a lot of interesting fashion but in all honesty it's still around. It's just out of vogue so it's a bit harder to find. I suggest checking out VnV Nation and La Roux as a good place to start. Also: Don't spend too much time looking back. There is a lot of fun stuff in the past, but bring it to the present or you'll end up pining away with nostalgia for an age that never really happened and the best days will always be already in the past. :)
I don't think we will really have oldies any more, from the 80's onwards it will just be nostalgia. You can't really call something that has such a futuristic sound to it an 'oldie'.
@Woozygulag In part I agree and yet another part wants to agree but I'm left with a strange feeling on the matter. Strangely enough, the futuristic sound of Ultravox is now a sound of the past. Its honestly a strange feeling to see the ultramodern, or post-modern becoming retro. Kind of makes me want to write a story about vampires seeing the newest and greatest things age before them, but that would have to wait for the Twilight phase to die. It's a ten-foot-pole situation right now XD
All seriousness mad respect. Was a huge fan of this group. Their music was very creative and evocative throughout their career and personnel changes. Love it.
Yes indeed, it is the boys of the Messengers...Colin King and Danny Mitchell...I am soooo jealous you got to see them all together....musta been sweet!!!!
Interesting there were five musicians, was the fifth Mike Singleton from China Crisis as the edits could suggest. The odd swaying guy in the left corner who was like a spare part with not much to say for himself I presume was one of the Messengers or was that OMD...oh well might be confused and what about Midge's little curious "youth" sonic boom at the end, could have been a blip on video lol...made me laugh anyway...love Ultravox my favourite band of all time.

When Midge Ure was young, he looked a bit like Shia La Boeuf.

Sadly, our decade we live in now is shallow and unimaginable. They wouldn't "understand" good music like this...
