You have killed me bro but you are not alone i also had the same experience. But the song is perfect, good work. Still played by some of our radio stations here in kenya had its translation on one sunday this year on kbc e-service but i have almost forgotten everything
Much lower quality than that done ealier by Mayaula Mayoni. Surprised to see Ya Ntessa Dalienst in this line-up. The guitar sound on this more prominent, rough and almost dominating. Typical Franco
Bondowe is a typical woman of the 50's. The original of this song is from Matadi, a nearby city of Kinshasa (350 km away). In that town, chérie Bodowe was a new style of woman, wealth, good life spent in bars, beer, the kind of BMW (beer, money, women) of our times.
The last time I listened to this one wass in 1976 when I was in primary school. I knew every word of it but never knew the meaning!! Like the national anthem of Kenya, we could sing "bless this our London nation!!" instead of "land and nation...!" And we could go on "Mary went in unity, peace and liberty...!" instead of "may we dwell in unity, peace and liberty..!" And our teacher stood there in his bell bottom trousers and slim fit shirt singing along!! The good old days.
Thanks. I have them in a Mayaula Mayoni album which has two versions of 'Bondowe' and includes other songs like 'Ndaya', 'Change kazaka', 'Bondoki' etc...I just didnt know Josky did the vocals on them....
@Savai333 So sad indeed about Mayaula! I didnt know until your comment, thanks a lot Savai...my cousin was classmate to his son back the late 90s in IL. My prayers to his family and may he rest in peace!

If you like this song, try the following live version from 1975:
" Bondowe (Mayaula Mayoni) - Franco & le T.P. O.K. Jazz 1974-75", also in the Abou selection.

Sounds like a truncated version of an earlier (or later?) version, but not bad.
