No way a 5'11 190lb man with the shortest reach (69") & by his own trainers admission to have terrible footwork can beat a man 6'3" 213" with an 81'' reach who's much faster with hands & feet with far more agility who also fights going forward backward and sideways. If Foreman, who hit MUCH harder than Rocky, could'nt knock out an old Ali than how in the hell could Marciano? Ezzard Charles is the only good fighter that was in his prime when Marciano fought him. Check his record
Not a chance this could happen. Ali was 6'3 220 lbs and quick. Marciano would be a 3-1 underdog at least. The fight would be close though because Marciano would never get KO'd
ali would dance around marciano, tire him out a bit, and throw jabs. marciano reminds me of joe frazier, and joe frazier did knock ali down once, but ali beat him a couple times...
@supatoker420 ali could dance all he wants to, but marciano would hit him in his arms, then once ali's arms would be numb from marciano, then it would be game time for Marciano. Ali said it him self that Marciano was better than Frazier. And Ali believed that in out of all the past champions before him, he said marciano would have been the guy to beat him. Ali said that on the Howered Cosell Show.
@SoutherReturns nope, just because marciano was rude and ali's technique would have done the difference between the two! plus he was smart and fast... marciano was rude and pure strenght..
This was not ACTUALLY computer generated. It was DIRECTED by the white, rascist sports writers of the day at exactly that period when Ali had turned Muslim and refused to go Vietnam and was giving antiwar lectures. Ali was despised. The "computer" had a whole list of fighters from all periods with, *duh*, Marciano, Dempsy, Jeffries and Baer beating all of the "colored" fighters including Ali Louis and Jack Johnson.
MARCIANO WAS A VEGETARIAN BEFORE FIGHTS, DAIRY CLOGS THE ARTERIES AND MEAT IS BAD FOR THE HEART, AND THE POOR COW BEING MURDERED FOR SOMEONES TASTE BUDS.
Lazar, never go on loads of shity wikipedia its all fukd up pure bs bookmark wikipedia-watch org 4truth tell all! Point is rm remains undefeated but has one draw. Both ali was lucky with cooper n rm with lastarza. But 5o o beats 3o rm stil comes out winner! But radio ko over dempsey or ali is bs.tko ok!
this is such bullshit haha since when does Ali throw body punches moving backwards? and since when does he get wobbled like that???? George Foreman didnt wobble him Earnie Shavers was close but still didnt happen.
Ali and Marciano sparred in 1969 and the sparring was film. Based on this sparring, a computer made a film of a how a fight between the two would go. There were 4 or 5 different endings. In this ending Marciano knocks Ali out.
Its the super fight, a computer generated boxing match between muhammad ali and rocky marciano. at the time Ali and Marciano were the only undefeated heavyweight champions in history, and so people argued over who was the better fighter. since marciano was retired, and ali had no license, they made a computer generated fight showing who would be the champ
@calakiduki, in other words an imaginary fight. An especially nice touch is the TV filter put on top to somehow conceal how it's not just made up shit.
Well, its hard for me to understand the people who say that marciano fought a lot of bums and at the same time have no problem to saying that tyson was the great ever or something like that. You know what i mean? Its hard do that kind of evaluation cause in their time they fought the people who showed up to fight. Its like the people who say that wladimir or vitali sucks just beacause they dont like their boxing style. In the end what count are the victories.
@irafenian I concur. Marciano didn't fight a "true" fight until his 38th bout when he fought a shot 37 year old Louis. Everyone else he fought before that were club fighters, journeymen, bums or whatever one wants to call them. And his best 4 opponents averaged 37 years of age, Louis 37, Moore 41, Charles 33, Walcott 39.
Liston's reputations scared-shit alot of boxers of ever stepping into the ring with him. Prior to the Ali fight, all Boxing writers, commentators and so-called experts gave the then brash Clay no chance whatsoever of beating Sonny Boy. Lo and behold - The Greatest came and delivered !! I bet if Liston had lived in a different time to Clay, the so-called experts I mentioned above would still now be arguing in favour of Liston.. Now, for Liston, substitute Marciano....get the idea ???
The prime Ali struggled with George Chuvalo, and Chuvalo didn't hit like Marciano - nor was he has relentless. The young Ali was also 'out' against Henry Cooper, he only survived because he had a long rest while they replaced the glove. Had he been dropped by Marciano like that, it's unlikely Ali could have survived the round.
On the other hand, Ali could have scored a decision, or even have chopped Marciano up enough to have the fight stopped (this almost happened against Ezzard Charles).
@SquallLeon81 His best opponents averaged 37 years of age. Louis 37, Walcott 39, Charles 33, Moore 41. Only 6 title defenses and retired at 32 so he could stay "undefeated". Knowing guys like Liston and Patterson were rising he knew it was a matter of time before they ruined his "undefeated" record. Marciano feasted on light heavy weight journeymen, there is no doubt he retired to avoid guys like Liston, he never faced 210+ true monsters like him. Marciano was good but is overrated to say least.
you need to remember as well that Ali got inside the head off his opponent. That heleped him win alot fights. rumble in the jungle what does he do. gives more abuse after abuse, then the fight and he does nothing until the seventh when george has punched him self out cause he was so annoyed by ali. Foreman is suppose to be the hardest hitting heavyweight EVER! but rocky is rocky and he hit you anywhere non stop, conditioning was tremendos if both of them fought in there primes it would be crazy
I always see people talk about wholl win between ALI vs JOE LOUIS ALI vs MARCIANO ALI vs Larry holmes ALi vs MIKE TYSON ALI vs Lennox lewis ALI vs holyfield ALI vs manny paquiao Ali vs Mayweather Ali vs klistchko Do you see something? The word Ali is constant and is compared with every great fighter of every era. Which means that indead THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME is ALI!!!!!
Anyone who can claim that Ali was a flop with no skill, has either never seen Ali in the ring, or, more plausible, is an utter and total ignorant regarding boxing. Ali, when he was ebst, was incredible. Only one to compare with is Joe Louis.
Marciano was a wicked, akward slugger, who could take terrible punishment and deal out even worse. Who would have won? I don't know. I know I am split, I want Ali to win because of style and skill, but I want Marciano to win because of his sheer power.
Muhammad Ali is a comboination Ko artist, if he beat Georgre Foreman and ERnie Shavers he could have beaten MArciano. MArciano beat an old Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali is the only person who has a career rivaling Joe Louis so he would have given Marciano a fight of his life. There were great BOxers every generation, Sugar RAy, Demphsey, Louis, MAricaino, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Lewis.
ali said that rocky's punches on ali's arms did hurt during the filming. was ali the greatest? in the fight of the century frazier knocked him down and won the decision. no matter what happened later joe always had that to look back on.
It's but logical to believe that the best & dominant heavyweights (over 210 lbs in weight & 6-3 in height) like Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Hollyfield, Lewis & Klitschko could have destroyed Marciano the very best Cruiserweight who stands 5-10 and weighed 190 lbs in his prime. This is the reason why there is weight category since it is unfair to match two boxers with big difference in weight. It would become a mismatch. Marciano against these heavys is a MISMATCH.
@csdr0 Okay, it's a silly (if fun) exercise, but we would do well to remember that both Sonny Banks and Henry Cooper had Ali down and hurt (especially Cooper), and neither of those guys topped one-ninety. Marciano andFfrazier were about equal in all dimensions but weight (with the Frazier who whipped Muhammad coming in at about 204, I think). We'll never know the outcomes of fantasy matches for sure, so I try not to begrudge fans their divergent opinions. CuffColl.
@CuffColl, Sonny Banks did not hurt Ali. He immediately stood up giving the referre no time to count. Ali continued the round after the mandatory 8 count as if nothing happened & he was throwing punches & moving. Henry Cooper did hurt him even though Ali immediately stood up. But that was the time Ali was still very young & ot yet in his prime. If Marciano fought Walcott, Louis, Charles or Moore when he's still young the four would have knocked Rocky out easy.
@csdr0 Walcott got better with age. When younger he was KO'd by guys like Jack Fox, Al Ettore, & Abe Simon & beaten by Skippy Allen, Roy Lazer, & Billy Ketchell. Charles and Moore peaked at 175. Young Louis? Okay, you have a case there. If skinny Cooper could "rock" Ali's world, so could "the Rock." But everyone has an opinion. CuffColl.
Watch the "The Super Fight ALTERNATE ENDING - Muhammad Ali Vs Rocky Marciano" at Youtube. It was shown in Europe but not in the USA. Ali TKOed Marciano in the 13th. These two fights were all stage managed following scenarios fed by the computer. The two boxers were simply ACTING out the scripts of the 2 scenarios. When he fought Foreman & Frazier Ali was hitting them with viscious head punches. Observe that Ali was toying with Marciano & hitting him with body punches, so unusual for Ali.
Has anyone else noticed in this computer fight that Ali is throwing alot of body punches?? well in this segment he is, Ali never threw body punches. I know they sparred for this fight but it is still strange.
@SteppinNZ, I noticed it, a lot of his punches were kid glove body punches. The head punches were not connecting in the other fight that Ali won by TKO in the 13th round. There is a big difference in the way Ali fought Liston, Foreman & Frazier compared with the relax way he fought Marciano in this staged fight. He was very mean looking & his punches were viscious head punches. His eyes looked serious, mean & worried with the three real fights but never in this "fight" with Marciano.
@SteppinNZ, Notice that Ali was not CLINCHING or HOLDING Marciano's hands to TIE him up the way he did to Frazier nor was he covering his face the way he did with Foreman. His face is so open to punches & he was backing off instead of resting on the rope to cover his face & then CLINCH to force the referee to break them up to enable him to dance while he jabs and deliver his straight right. This is the way to fight an ever approaching slugger. Dance, jab, right, clinch, break up, dance again.
look at the punches ali took off foreman, and he was a much bigger puncher than marciano.
ali's footwork would have kept him out of marcianos comfort zone, which was close up/inside. ali,s speed & punch ratio may have had marcianos corner or the ref stopping the action around the 9th.
lets be real here marciano would not beat any top heavyweight boxer....ali, holmes, frazier, tyson, holyfield all would beat him easily......the only reason people make a big deal about him is cause he was white.....thats why he is mentioned with the greatest fighter....he was only about 185 lbs with a very short reach....he is over rated!!!!!
Hi there, Marciano is a top 10 heavyweight ever. I agree Ali in his prime would beat Marciano, but Holmes, Frazier, Tyson and Holyfield would not. The only fighters that would be Marciano in chronological order (assuming all were in there primes) would be Jefferies, Johnson, Louis, Liston, Ali and Foreman. I suppose there are a few fighters who might beat Marciano like Corbett, Langford, Holmes and Lewis, but I doubt there would win 2 fights in a 3 fight series.
@dorsi68, Larry Holmes, Hollyfield, Lewis and Tyson would have destroyed Marciano. They were simply too big for Marciano. They were all hard punchers & tough. Tyson in his prime is so fast for Marciano. Marciano is so slow & easy to hit. Watch his fight with Walcott. He was knocked down in the first round. Marciano in today's standards is not a legitimate heavyweight but only a crusierweight. Without doubt Marciano was the best in his time. Yet it's not right to compare apples with oranges.
Michael Spinks was a light-heavweighta nd he beat Holmes. Ali had a tough time with small heavweights like Jones, Cooper, Chuvolo, Frazier etc. Holyfield was a light-heavy initially. I agree that Marciano is not the greatest fighter even though he is undefeated (just like the Dolphins are not the greatest football team ever since they were 17-0), but Marciano would have given any fighter a tough fight.
i dont see how marciano would even step in the ring with any of the heavy weights that i mentioned.....he was strong for his time, and was not very fast.....all the fighters i mentioned were stronger than him and faster than him and bigger.....it would have been a walk in the park for ali and holmes, probably even frazier
Hi there, maybe Marciano was not as fast as some of the fighters, but he was very strong, had a great punch and his endurance was probbaly in the top 2 or 3 ever. I agree that Marciano is overrated by some experts and people due to his undefeated record as I think there are 12 fighters who would be 49-0 had they fought the same opposition. But that being said, I think Marciano is under-rated by those who say he fought no real fighter and was too small.
If you look at Shavers for example, he (probably) had the hardest punch ever, but look at his weight. Marciano was alot more skilled than Shavers and he gave Ali and Holmes tough fights. Look at Jimmy Young and I can keep naming fighters to prove my point in regards to Marciano. If Marciano was fighting in the 1960's to 1980's, he would more likely weight 198 to 205 lbs due to the training and condition advances.
ya maybe but u cant say that he would have been bigger if he fought in a certain time period cause u take the fighter from his era, not what he could have been....shavers was 205 lbs, thats 20 lbs more than marciano, and he was taller with a longer reach....
Even at 185 to 189, Marciano would ahve been tough to beat. I disagree though that you would not factor all variables. For example, Jesse Owens ran a 10.32 100 m. If he had the training, shoes, track etc, he would run about 9.8. Also, your logic certainly does not make sense with Newton who did not know how to use a computer, yet is smarter than the top 5 or 6 people combined in the world today.
You put a person back 500 years ago, he would not know about computers, live to about 40 to 50, and be a few inches shorter and alot lighter, thus, variables are important to factor in. Now Marciano was about 60 years ago, so at least the disadvantages are not as poor, but if we use your logic, we can only compare how they did in the era's than, and than Marciano would rank higher than he actually would if everything was equal :)
I respect your opinion, although many experts and a novice like myself strongly disagree. The Ali from 1965-1967, would win albeit a tough fight and the Ali in 1973-1974 would have won as well against a prime Marciano. Ali's prime was taken from him. Frazier was a poor man's Marciano and gave Ali 3 tough fights. On paper, Frazier was not in the same class as Ali, but he had heart, could bob-weave and a left hook. Was Frazier very fast ??? Was he big ???
Marciano has heart and a great punch, so your clearly biased to say Ali would dominate when it has been commented by Ali and Dundee that Marciano would be in there top 10 of heavyweights. There are many fighters who lasted the distance with Ali. Since Marciano had knockout power from round 1 to 15 and Ali's endurance was no better than Marciano, there is zero way he would domiante Marciano.
i would say that the frazier that fought ali was in his prime....ali was out of his prime.....there was no wayy that marciano had a punch stronger than fraziers left hook....ali got hit by that left hook, but got up as soon as he hit the ground....if that punch didnt knock out ali, marciano could never knock him out....period end of story....
also ali had over a foot reach on marciano so bascially a prime ali wouldnt even let marciano get near him....he would just jab and jab until marciano was so cut up they would have to stop the fight
True that Ali had about 13 inches, but Marciano was a swarmer and Ali had difficulty with that and with body punches and rope-a-dope, Ali would get hit and it would be a tough fight. I might agree that latyer on in the fight, it could get stopped due to cuts, but Ali would have to be in top shape to beat Marciano.
@dorsi68 Ali's 13-inch reach advantage, combined w/ better hand & foot speed than any other heavyweight in history, might as well've been a 13-FOOT advantage. Young Ali would score on Rocky repeatedly while staying completely out of range. (Half the time, it would look more like a pro wrestling exhibition: Rocky diving into a corner that Ali was standing in a split-second earlier!).. An older Ali could lose, as did an older Walcott, an older Charles, & an older Moore. See the pattern?
@lazur1 So the young Ali that "beat" Doug Jones would avoid punches from Marciano like Ali did with Cooper ??? There is no pattern here. Other than well past his prime Liston, the Charles and Walcott and possibly LaStarza were better fighters that Ali faced in the 1960's. You are over-estimating Ali and under-estimating Marciano here my friend :)
@lazur1 Hi again, lets agree to disagree than ... you think it would be a cakewalk for Ali and I think it would be a close and very competitive fight (8 to 5 rounds and 2 draw rounds). Peace :)
@dorsi68 Cool, but we're closer than you think: Rocky was always at his best, Ali was not. Thus, it's reasonably possible that Ali would get brave too soon, & / or assume he'd tired out Rocky over 13 or 14 rounds. This would be a big mistake, which could end up anywhere from the scoring you propose to a Rocky KO over Ali.
I agree, Frazier was in his prime and Ali was past his prime after 1967. I disagree as Marciano had harder punches than Frazier's left hook. Also, I never said Marciano would knock out Ali as I did state Ali would beat Marciano 3 of 3 times had they fought in there promes, but Marciano would hurt Ali and it would be a tough unanaminous decision for Ali. If Chuvilo who was not a stronger hitter could make Ali piss blood for two weeks, could Marciano not do the same /??
@dorsi68 Ali couldn't hurt, scare, back-up or bully Rocky, but he could likely as not win every round, which is commonly & fairly referred to as a dominating performance.
@lazur1 Hi lazur1, lets agree to disagree on this. Joe Frazier is a poor man's Marciano and he won his share of rounds against Ali. Do you truly believe Ali won 2 of 3 fights against Norton ??? I would say Ali might have won just one fight. Marciano would be very awkward for Ali and although a prime Ali would decision a prime Marciano, it would be close and not like fighting Chuvulo as you are basically saying here.
@dorsi68 I can 'agree' that Frazier is a bigger, faster Marciano, whose fights with Ali revealed a heart that none of Rocky's bouts came close to testing. What Rocky had over Chuvalo in ability, he lost in height, weight & reach, so..yes, young Ali on a 'smart' day can stay out of reach for 15 rounds, and still score regularly. I'll give you one thing: Both men on their worst day: Rocky wins big, because he never -had- a worst day.
@lazur1 Hi again, you must really not like Marciano as your not objective. Marciano was stronger, hit harder and had better endurance than Frazier. Yes, Frazier was bigger than Marciano. Frazier was a warrior and had the same type of heart as Marciano. Had they fought, it would be a close fight with Marciano TKO'ing or decisioning Frazier.
@dorsi68 I love Rocky, & believe that if he'd been tested at a higher level, may have been up to greater challenges...but he wasn't. Calling a fight 'close' means we can't predict a sure winner..I'll go for that.
@lazur1 Hi there, what do you mean if Marciano had "greater challenges" ??? Besides Jefferies, Johnson, Langford, Louis, Ali (who probably fought the best overall competition per fight) and maybe Holyfield, Marciano fought better opposition than any other fighter. This statistic is based on winning the majority of fights against the high quaility opposition. Marciano did fight the best and ducked no one.
@lazur1 In regards to Chuvalo, he was much stronger and hit much harder and had much better ability. Marciano would rough Ali and go right at him. Ali would not be able to hold Marciano off and Ali would be hurt, but would win a decision over Marciano had they both fought in there primes. Ali did not have the power to hold off Marciano unlike a Foreman or Louis and Marciano probably had the best endurance for a fighter ever or close to it. Marciano's heart was as good as Ali's as well.
@dorsi68 If Ali stood & fought Rocky, Ali would lose, but if he used his unparalleled mobility & speed to not be where punches were, (while connecting w/lightning jabs of his own), Ali wouldn't need power. If Ali thought he'd worn Rocky out & moved inside, he'd soon realize Rocky never wears out, but Ali also had stamina, to remain elusive for all 15, + much greater reach than anyone Rocky ever faced, & much greater speed than any HW, period.
@lazur1 Hi again, before I can comment about Ali having "much greater" speed amoung any heavyweights ... in what sense ??? Hand speed, foot work etc. ??? If Frazier can beat Ali in many rounds and Norton can beat Ali in many rounds ... how can you say Marciano would lose a lopsided fight ???
@lazur1 2 of 2: Name me one fight in which Ali would ahve dominated Marciano and why ??? I am not disagreeing with you that Ali would not win, but it would be close as in 8 rounds to 5 rounds with 2 or 3 rounds being a draw. I can assure you that Ali would ahve a very difficult time with Charles and Walcott and it would go the distance. With your comments on reach ... yes, this would hurt Marciano against Foreman, but not Ali.
This ending is such bullshit..No disrespect or anything like that to Marciano but no chance in hell would he defeat Ali in his prime..Shit I don't think anyone could have beaten Ali in his prime which were the years of 1964-1967.
@elHavre, "The Super Fight ALTERNATE ENDING - Muhammad Ali Vs Rocky Marciano" was shown in Europe but not in the USA. Ali TKOed Marciano in the 13th. These two fights were all stage-managed following scenarios fed by the computer. The two boxers were simply ACTING out the scripts of the 2 scenarios. When he fought Foreman & Frazier Ali was hitting them with viscious head punches. Observe that Ali was toying with Marciano & hitting him with weak body punches, so unusual for Ali.
If Ali and Marciano fought in there primes and fought a 3 fight series, Ali would win everyone convincingly. Yes, Marciano is 49-0, but I can name at least 12 fighters who would be 49-0 and more convincingly had they fought Marciano's opposition in that timeline in regards to age. Marciano is tough and would give almost any heavyweight a tough time, but its like the Dolphins, who really ranks them the all-time best since they were 17-0 ???
Marciano is one of the greatest pound-fro-pound fighters in history. He beat the best of the bunch... Louis, Charles, Walcott, Moore. You name 'em he beat 'em. But best of all he never bragged about it which is why his soo likeable.
I never said Marciano's resume was better than Ali's. I just said that Marciano was a gentleman and so should be treated with the highest order of respect. He beat all that he faced with the "right" manner of approach. He ducked no-one and fought with his heart. What a fighter. What a man.
Well there you go then... he fought with dignity and respect... always praising others over himself whether it were Sonny Liston, Walcott or even Ali. He always had something good to say. Its rare to find that in boxing nowadays.
we're desperate (america) for a good heavyweight, in my opinion. there's this guy named Deontay Wilder im hoping will be the next great HW, he kind of reminds me of a young Lennox.
Marciano is who I dub "The pride of the white race" and who can argue with that?! In a sport which is mostly dominated by the black man, Marciano set the standard with a flawless record and some magical moments (that Walcott KO is something I'll never forget). In the 1940's and 50's Whites just didn't sit with Blacks... but Marciano always did... a gentleman at heart. He apologised to Joe Louis after their fight. They say they'll never be another Ali... believe me they'll never be another Rocky.
What made Marciano such a warrior was his strict regime. No offence but today White people just get off on drinking alcohol and eating crap! Marciano discarded all that and was fed a diet of stiffs... weighing in only at 189 lbs he tore at the heavy bag with purpose. One unique training method was that he would jump into a pool and with the water shoulder high he would raise his arms "quickly" in order to give them "elevation power". That enabled him to gain tremendous power for his uppercuts.
All these excuses that people find in Marciano fighting old guys... pls give me a break... you look at his fighters stats and you'll be amazed he was the underdog. He only weighed in 189 lbs... which meant that almost all his opponents had weight advantage (and they say Mayweather had a huge advantage over Marquez... BULLSHIT) also Marciano had a 68 inch reach (the shortest reach of all the heavyweight champions)... but what he lacked in gift, he made up with heart.
His Suzie-Q was the only gift he had... he perfected it. Period. He wasn't just another fighter who beat up all guys... he beat them to a bleeding pulp... he made sure there were no excuses left for any of them to come back for another fight and in the case of Walcott and Charles... he KO'd them emphatically. But again, he was a gentleman. He only fought 'cause thats what he was good at... he took his fair share of punches too and as such NO-ONE should say anything bad about him.
Hi there, I would not put Louis in the list of great fighters as he was a shell of himself. Although Moore and Walcott were late 30's and early 40's, they were still good fighters. My point was Marciano was a tough fighter, but there are at least 12 fighters who would have been undeafeated had they fought Marciano's 49 fights. I would say Marciano is in the top 30 fighters pound for pound ever.
Hi there, I would rate Langford #1, Wilde #2, Louis #3, Saddler #4, Fitzsimmons #5, Moore #6, Foreman #7, Ketchell #8, Dempsey #9, Robinson #10. I would rate Marciano and Jefferies as having the best endurance ever though.
marciano would have destroyed ali, all that dancin wouldn't mean shit marciano would have caught him sooner or later. i think it was ezzard charles that split marciano's nose wide open, they told rocky he had better end this fight right now or else. rocky turned his damn lights out the next round ! ROCKY RETIRED UNDEFEATED, & THATS THE WAY IT IS ! ! !
listen up.. u have to realize ali wud beat marciano any day.. ali is the greatest of all time.. foreman was a harder puncher then marciano and ali beat him.. and some rocky fans dont kno shit about him they just say 49-0 , ''undefeated!!'' what u have to realize is 38 of his 49 fights were bums... no disrespect to rocky, ( great boxer) just not the best. ali is goat and always will be.. nuff said
you guys forget one thing... ring magazine didnt even put ali on the best 100 punchers ever. marciano was listed as 15th. rocky beat you down. ali beat you on points. could rocky have knocked out ali? absolutely. could ali have hit rocky at will? absolutely. this fight was for fun and money. a what if.... but a glorious one to ponder.
Take Marciano v Walcott #1. Walcott was a good fighter, but about 60% the fighter scientifically and physically that Ali was.
Walcott was 38yo, had reasonable footwork though. He was walking rather than dancing by this stage of his career. Gave Marciano ALL HELL for 13 rounds (had an unbeatable points lead) until his tired legs just couldn't carry him away from the ropes and he got nailed.
Re the "cut" point. Tell me one fight against a decent boxer where Marciano didn't end up bleeding badly. Ezzard Charles was a good fighter but not a big hitter and he had Marciano bleeding to death in their second fight within 8 rounds.
Ali's jab, with it's last split second twist on impact, would have cut Marciano to ribbons in 2 rounds. It would have been ugly.
You're telling me a 185lb, 5'10", flat footed fighter with a bad tendency to cut who threw good (but not real fast) hooks was going to KO Ali?
No contest I'm sorry. A 212-216 lb under 30yo Ali would have laughed at him and cut him up like Cooper and Quarry. In 4 rounds or less.
A heavier, slower, older Ali would have absorbed those body / head shots from such a small man (Frazier, Foreman, Shavers, Liston were all bigger and hit harder) without blinking.
Actually, that WAS Ali you see on film, and Marciano (retired), too, before he was killed in the plane crash.
It's hard to say that Ali wouldn't have fought him like that when Ali was the one who filmed the rounds (well over 100) with Marciano, from which the computer selected a scenario.
Ali was a very good fighter, but by no means the greatest. It took a gift decision over Doug Ford and the two tank jobs by Sonny Liston to get him the title in the first place. One undefeated HW champ ever.
"who do you think would win in their prime honestly ali or Marciano"
MARCIANO BY KO. After sparring 70 1-min rounds with Ali, Rock (who was not a man to brag) said : "In my prime I would have killed him." And I go along with that.
As an Italian even I have to say that Ali most importantly was the SMARTEST fighter ever. His game plan and execution made him the greatest, even if other fighters had more power. He knew how to beat you.
Ali in his era fought the best heavyweights in history, Liston, Frazier, Foreman. Those 3 would have cleaned Rock's clock, even Ken Norton and Shavers. Ali beat those guys post-prime.
Rocky is a hard hitter with two left feet. Ali, well ........had hell of alot more than that. Rock has a record and is the best White heavyweight, those are not solid grounds for the greatest of all time.
Prime Ali vs Prime Rocky: Ali wins by decision Rocky only dropped twice in his career to Moore and Walcott
Marciano's in an era of slipping an trading slugs. His toughest opponent was Charles Ezzard, He fought an old Joe louis, and old Walcott. Walcott even knocked him down at an age of 38 and went 13 rounds with Rocky.
We know this is simulated, that Marciano was long retired and that Ali was out of shape. But you can't help being struck by Marciano's ring presence and by the sheer solidity of the man. After Rock had KO'd Louis, referee Ruby Goldstein was asked if Rock had ever been in trouble during the fight. Goldstein replied: "It would be hard to tell if Rocky was ever in trouble, because hitting him was like hitting a stone wall." And that's the impression you get here too. The man was unbeatable.
I just want to humbly say to the young folk out there.
From now on I will behave in a manner that is the norm for decent folk who may have children watching this and I apologize to the young guys coming up. I really don't love boxing. I am a former racist. Kids don't do what I do. Boxing is not a fight it is a learned skill. I hope you will disregard these hateful posts I have made and view boxing as a noble sport! Again..please forgive me. I will say only positive things about this fine sport.
and what i meant about tommy morrison is that supposedly the az boxing commission had their docs fake his results, to get him out.... that is why there's an impending lawsuit against them cuz years later after taking the meds all this time, he decided to get checked again and there was no trace of hiv. That's fucked up if u ask me.
oh and not to mention, ali said marciano was hurting him bad during sparring........... meanwhile marciano was in his mid 40's and ali was in his late 20's........... ali said he'd hate to feel what a real punch from marciano felt like and for ali who is so cocky to say that, it must be true.
As for Louis' honesty, he had extra marital affiars so he is no more honest anyone.
Louis was a slow footed fighter who waited for you to make a mistake and he fought "The Bumb a Month Club", and way past his prime when he fought Rock.
Marciano was great, as a kid he was all time favorite, but for the wrong reason, he wasn't black.
I still place him #2. Shavers is called the hardest puncher based on Ali saying he hit harder than Liston and Foreman and Holmes saying he hit harder than Tyson.
Shaver is not the hardest puncher. Marciano has knocked people out of the ring like in the movies.. MULTIPLE TIMES. So bcuz Joe Louis cheated on his wife he is a liar? LMFAOOO apparently u didn't watch the movie "Ali". GTFO with that shit. Who cares about his color. Marciano is still the worlds only undefeated heavyweight champion. He has broken peoples arms who blocked too much, he is considered the top swarmer of all time.
are u a fucking moron? HE DID INFACT CHEAT ON HIS WIFE, THAT IS THE POINT AND REASONING FOR THE FIRST DIVORCE. So what u just wrote was A WASTE. And "EVERYONE KNOWS that the 72 dolphins would have lost to the blah blah blah?" NO. No they don't. You can assume, but that makes u an ass. Just as everyone knew the Giants would lose to the Patriots? LMAO Who won? Giants. The hardest hitters of all time were: Marciano, Foreman, Morrison,
There's no way they would have fought in a ring the size of a sandbox.
Dundee and ali would've known how to fight marciano.
I love how ali gives rocky the utmost respect and that they were good friends.

Seriously, thats it's calculation.

Ali and Marciano sparred in 1969 and the sparring was film. Based on this sparring, a computer made a film of a how a fight between the two would go. There were 4 or 5 different endings. In this ending Marciano knocks Ali out.
In another ending, Ali TKOs Marciano......

@irafenian I concur. Marciano didn't fight a "true" fight until his 38th bout when he fought a shot 37 year old Louis.

Now, for Liston, substitute Marciano....get the idea ???
macvatu 8 months ago
The prime Ali struggled with George Chuvalo, and Chuvalo didn't hit like Marciano - nor was he has relentless. The young Ali was also 'out' against Henry Cooper, he only survived because he had a long rest while they replaced the glove. Had he been dropped by Marciano like that, it's unlikely Ali could have survived the round.
On the other hand, Ali could have scored a decision, or even have chopped Marciano up enough to have the fight stopped (this almost happened against Ezzard Charles).

I respect your opinion and I'm glad that you espress it in a moderate way.
Anyway I think Marciano is considered so good because he has done boxing history in the past.
Joe Louis was very old when fought Marciano and anyway he has power, but he is static as hell.
Charles is very light as a heavyweight and Wlacott doesn't impress me to say the truth.
For me he is overrated because he hit behind the head and that's uncorrect and also he hasn't the skills to compete with Tyson or Ali
SquallLeon81 8 months ago
@SquallLeon81 His best opponents averaged 37 years of age. Louis 37, Walcott 39, Charles 33, Moore 41. Only 6 title defenses and retired at 32 so he could stay "undefeated". Knowing guys like Liston and Patterson were rising he knew it was a matter of time before they ruined his "undefeated" record. Marciano feasted on light heavy weight journeymen, there is no doubt he retired to avoid guys like Liston, he never faced 210+ true monsters like him. Marciano was good but is overrated to say least.

I know I am split, I want Ali to win because of style and skill, but I want Marciano to win because of his sheer power.

sdcow 1 year ago
It's but logical to believe that the best & dominant heavyweights (over 210 lbs in weight & 6-3 in height) like Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Hollyfield, Lewis & Klitschko could have destroyed Marciano the very best Cruiserweight who stands 5-10 and weighed 190 lbs in his prime. This is the reason why there is weight category since it is unfair to match two boxers with big difference in weight. It would become a mismatch. Marciano against these heavys is a MISMATCH.
csdr0 1 year ago
@csdr0 Okay, it's a silly (if fun) exercise, but we would do well to remember that both Sonny Banks and Henry Cooper had Ali down and hurt (especially Cooper), and neither of those guys topped one-ninety. Marciano andFfrazier were about equal in all dimensions but weight (with the Frazier who whipped Muhammad coming in at about 204, I think). We'll never know the outcomes of fantasy matches for sure, so I try not to begrudge fans their divergent opinions. CuffColl.
CuffColl 1 year ago
@CuffColl, Sonny Banks did not hurt Ali. He immediately stood up giving the referre no time to count. Ali continued the round after the mandatory 8 count as if nothing happened & he was throwing punches & moving. Henry Cooper did hurt him even though Ali immediately stood up. But that was the time Ali was still very young & ot yet in his prime. If Marciano fought Walcott, Louis, Charles or Moore when he's still young the four would have knocked Rocky out easy.
csdr0 1 year ago
@csdr0 Walcott got better with age. When younger he was KO'd by guys like Jack Fox, Al Ettore, & Abe Simon & beaten by Skippy Allen, Roy Lazer, & Billy Ketchell. Charles and Moore peaked at 175. Young Louis? Okay, you have a case there. If skinny Cooper could "rock" Ali's world, so could "the Rock." But everyone has an opinion. CuffColl.
CuffColl 1 year ago
Watch the "The Super Fight ALTERNATE ENDING - Muhammad Ali Vs Rocky Marciano" at Youtube. It was shown in Europe but not in the USA. Ali TKOed Marciano in the 13th. These two fights were all stage managed following scenarios fed by the computer. The two boxers were simply ACTING out the scripts of the 2 scenarios. When he fought Foreman & Frazier Ali was hitting them with viscious head punches. Observe that Ali was toying with Marciano & hitting him with body punches, so unusual for Ali.
csdr0 1 year ago
Has anyone else noticed in this computer fight that Ali is throwing alot of body punches?? well in this segment he is, Ali never threw body punches. I know they sparred for this fight but it is still strange.
SteppinNZ 1 year ago
@SteppinNZ, I noticed it, a lot of his punches were kid glove body punches. The head punches were not connecting in the other fight that Ali won by TKO in the 13th round. There is a big difference in the way Ali fought Liston, Foreman & Frazier compared with the relax way he fought Marciano in this staged fight. He was very mean looking & his punches were viscious head punches. His eyes looked serious, mean & worried with the three real fights but never in this "fight" with Marciano.
csdr0 1 year ago
@SteppinNZ, Notice that Ali was not CLINCHING or HOLDING Marciano's hands to TIE him up the way he did to Frazier nor was he covering his face the way he did with Foreman. His face is so open to punches & he was backing off instead of resting on the rope to cover his face & then CLINCH to force the referee to break them up to enable him to dance while he jabs and deliver his straight right. This is the way to fight an ever approaching slugger. Dance, jab, right, clinch, break up, dance again.

look at the punches ali took off foreman, and he was a much bigger puncher than marciano.
ali's footwork would have kept him out of marcianos comfort zone, which was close up/inside. ali,s speed & punch ratio may have had marcianos corner or the ref stopping the action around the 9th.
sarahsboy1 2 years ago
lets be real here marciano would not beat any top heavyweight boxer....ali, holmes, frazier, tyson, holyfield all would beat him easily......the only reason people make a big deal about him is cause he was white.....thats why he is mentioned with the greatest fighter....he was only about 185 lbs with a very short reach....he is over rated!!!!!
lakerskb8ras 2 years ago
Hi there, Marciano is a top 10 heavyweight ever. I agree Ali in his prime would beat Marciano, but Holmes, Frazier, Tyson and Holyfield would not. The only fighters that would be Marciano in chronological order (assuming all were in there primes) would be Jefferies, Johnson, Louis, Liston, Ali and Foreman. I suppose there are a few fighters who might beat Marciano like Corbett, Langford, Holmes and Lewis, but I doubt there would win 2 fights in a 3 fight series.
dorsi68 2 years ago
@dorsi68, Larry Holmes, Hollyfield, Lewis and Tyson would have destroyed Marciano. They were simply too big for Marciano. They were all hard punchers & tough. Tyson in his prime is so fast for Marciano. Marciano is so slow & easy to hit. Watch his fight with Walcott. He was knocked down in the first round. Marciano in today's standards is not a legitimate heavyweight but only a crusierweight. Without doubt Marciano was the best in his time. Yet it's not right to compare apples with oranges.
csdr0 1 year ago
Michael Spinks was a light-heavweighta nd he beat Holmes. Ali had a tough time with small heavweights like Jones, Cooper, Chuvolo, Frazier etc. Holyfield was a light-heavy initially. I agree that Marciano is not the greatest fighter even though he is undefeated (just like the Dolphins are not the greatest football team ever since they were 17-0), but Marciano would have given any fighter a tough fight.
dorsi68 2 years ago
i dont see how marciano would even step in the ring with any of the heavy weights that i mentioned.....he was strong for his time, and was not very fast.....all the fighters i mentioned were stronger than him and faster than him and bigger.....it would have been a walk in the park for ali and holmes, probably even frazier
lakerskb8ras 2 years ago
Hi there, maybe Marciano was not as fast as some of the fighters, but he was very strong, had a great punch and his endurance was probbaly in the top 2 or 3 ever. I agree that Marciano is overrated by some experts and people due to his undefeated record as I think there are 12 fighters who would be 49-0 had they fought the same opposition. But that being said, I think Marciano is under-rated by those who say he fought no real fighter and was too small.
dorsi68 2 years ago
If you look at Shavers for example, he (probably) had the hardest punch ever, but look at his weight. Marciano was alot more skilled than Shavers and he gave Ali and Holmes tough fights. Look at Jimmy Young and I can keep naming fighters to prove my point in regards to Marciano. If Marciano was fighting in the 1960's to 1980's, he would more likely weight 198 to 205 lbs due to the training and condition advances.
dorsi68 2 years ago
ya maybe but u cant say that he would have been bigger if he fought in a certain time period cause u take the fighter from his era, not what he could have been....shavers was 205 lbs, thats 20 lbs more than marciano, and he was taller with a longer reach....
lakerskb8ras 2 years ago
Even at 185 to 189, Marciano would ahve been tough to beat. I disagree though that you would not factor all variables. For example, Jesse Owens ran a 10.32 100 m. If he had the training, shoes, track etc, he would run about 9.8. Also, your logic certainly does not make sense with Newton who did not know how to use a computer, yet is smarter than the top 5 or 6 people combined in the world today.
dorsi68 2 years ago
You put a person back 500 years ago, he would not know about computers, live to about 40 to 50, and be a few inches shorter and alot lighter, thus, variables are important to factor in. Now Marciano was about 60 years ago, so at least the disadvantages are not as poor, but if we use your logic, we can only compare how they did in the era's than, and than Marciano would rank higher than he actually would if everything was equal :)
dorsi68 2 years ago
whatever....for his time he could fight....but with ali u could put him in any era and he would still dominate.....thats true greatness
lakerskb8ras 2 years ago
I respect your opinion, although many experts and a novice like myself strongly disagree. The Ali from 1965-1967, would win albeit a tough fight and the Ali in 1973-1974 would have won as well against a prime Marciano. Ali's prime was taken from him. Frazier was a poor man's Marciano and gave Ali 3 tough fights. On paper, Frazier was not in the same class as Ali, but he had heart, could bob-weave and a left hook. Was Frazier very fast ??? Was he big ???
dorsi68 2 years ago
Marciano has heart and a great punch, so your clearly biased to say Ali would dominate when it has been commented by Ali and Dundee that Marciano would be in there top 10 of heavyweights. There are many fighters who lasted the distance with Ali. Since Marciano had knockout power from round 1 to 15 and Ali's endurance was no better than Marciano, there is zero way he would domiante Marciano.
dorsi68 2 years ago
i would say that the frazier that fought ali was in his prime....ali was out of his prime.....there was no wayy that marciano had a punch stronger than fraziers left hook....ali got hit by that left hook, but got up as soon as he hit the ground....if that punch didnt knock out ali, marciano could never knock him out....period end of story....
lakerskb8ras 2 years ago
also ali had over a foot reach on marciano so bascially a prime ali wouldnt even let marciano get near him....he would just jab and jab until marciano was so cut up they would have to stop the fight
lakerskb8ras 2 years ago
True that Ali had about 13 inches, but Marciano was a swarmer and Ali had difficulty with that and with body punches and rope-a-dope, Ali would get hit and it would be a tough fight. I might agree that latyer on in the fight, it could get stopped due to cuts, but Ali would have to be in top shape to beat Marciano.
dorsi68 2 years ago
@dorsi68 Ali's 13-inch reach advantage, combined w/ better hand & foot speed than any other heavyweight in history, might as well've been a 13-FOOT advantage. Young Ali would score on Rocky repeatedly while staying completely out of range. (Half the time, it would look more like a pro wrestling exhibition: Rocky diving into a corner that Ali was standing in a split-second earlier!).. An older Ali could lose, as did an older Walcott, an older Charles, & an older Moore. See the pattern?
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 So the young Ali that "beat" Doug Jones would avoid punches from Marciano like Ali did with Cooper ??? There is no pattern here. Other than well past his prime Liston, the Charles and Walcott and possibly LaStarza were better fighters that Ali faced in the 1960's. You are over-estimating Ali and under-estimating Marciano here my friend :)
dorsi68 1 year ago
@dorsi68 Indeed. All of my assumptions are based on both fighters being in peak physical and mental shape.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 Hi again, lets agree to disagree than ... you think it would be a cakewalk for Ali and I think it would be a close and very competitive fight (8 to 5 rounds and 2 draw rounds). Peace :)
dorsi68 1 year ago
@dorsi68 Cool, but we're closer than you think: Rocky was always at his best, Ali was not. Thus, it's reasonably possible that Ali would get brave too soon, & / or assume he'd tired out Rocky over 13 or 14 rounds. This would be a big mistake, which could end up anywhere from the scoring you propose to a Rocky KO over Ali.
lazur1 1 year ago
I agree, Frazier was in his prime and Ali was past his prime after 1967. I disagree as Marciano had harder punches than Frazier's left hook. Also, I never said Marciano would knock out Ali as I did state Ali would beat Marciano 3 of 3 times had they fought in there promes, but Marciano would hurt Ali and it would be a tough unanaminous decision for Ali. If Chuvilo who was not a stronger hitter could make Ali piss blood for two weeks, could Marciano not do the same /??
dorsi68 2 years ago
@dorsi68 Ali couldn't hurt, scare, back-up or bully Rocky, but he could likely as not win every round, which is commonly & fairly referred to as a dominating performance.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 Hi lazur1, lets agree to disagree on this. Joe Frazier is a poor man's Marciano and he won his share of rounds against Ali. Do you truly believe Ali won 2 of 3 fights against Norton ??? I would say Ali might have won just one fight. Marciano would be very awkward for Ali and although a prime Ali would decision a prime Marciano, it would be close and not like fighting Chuvulo as you are basically saying here.
dorsi68 1 year ago
@dorsi68 I can 'agree' that Frazier is a bigger, faster Marciano, whose fights with Ali revealed a heart that none of Rocky's bouts came close to testing. What Rocky had over Chuvalo in ability, he lost in height, weight & reach, so..yes, young Ali on a 'smart' day can stay out of reach for 15 rounds, and still score regularly. I'll give you one thing: Both men on their worst day: Rocky wins big, because he never -had- a worst day.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 Hi again, you must really not like Marciano as your not objective. Marciano was stronger, hit harder and had better endurance than Frazier. Yes, Frazier was bigger than Marciano. Frazier was a warrior and had the same type of heart as Marciano. Had they fought, it would be a close fight with Marciano TKO'ing or decisioning Frazier.
dorsi68 1 year ago
@dorsi68 I love Rocky, & believe that if he'd been tested at a higher level, may have been up to greater challenges...but he wasn't. Calling a fight 'close' means we can't predict a sure winner..I'll go for that.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 Hi there, what do you mean if Marciano had "greater challenges" ??? Besides Jefferies, Johnson, Langford, Louis, Ali (who probably fought the best overall competition per fight) and maybe Holyfield, Marciano fought better opposition than any other fighter. This statistic is based on winning the majority of fights against the high quaility opposition. Marciano did fight the best and ducked no one.
dorsi68 1 year ago
@lazur1 In regards to Chuvalo, he was much stronger and hit much harder and had much better ability. Marciano would rough Ali and go right at him. Ali would not be able to hold Marciano off and Ali would be hurt, but would win a decision over Marciano had they both fought in there primes. Ali did not have the power to hold off Marciano unlike a Foreman or Louis and Marciano probably had the best endurance for a fighter ever or close to it. Marciano's heart was as good as Ali's as well.
dorsi68 1 year ago
@dorsi68 If Ali stood & fought Rocky, Ali would lose, but if he used his unparalleled mobility & speed to not be where punches were, (while connecting w/lightning jabs of his own), Ali wouldn't need power. If Ali thought he'd worn Rocky out & moved inside, he'd soon realize Rocky never wears out, but Ali also had stamina, to remain elusive for all 15, + much greater reach than anyone Rocky ever faced, & much greater speed than any HW, period.
lazur1 1 year ago
@lazur1 Hi again, before I can comment about Ali having "much greater" speed amoung any heavyweights ... in what sense ??? Hand speed, foot work etc. ??? If Frazier can beat Ali in many rounds and Norton can beat Ali in many rounds ... how can you say Marciano would lose a lopsided fight ???
dorsi68 1 year ago
@dorsi68 does speed matter that much, weren't all ali's opponents slower and dint' slower guys like shvrs,4man,lyle,frzr etc pound on him??
finetubs 1 year ago
@lazur1 2 of 2: Name me one fight in which Ali would ahve dominated Marciano and why ??? I am not disagreeing with you that Ali would not win, but it would be close as in 8 rounds to 5 rounds with 2 or 3 rounds being a draw. I can assure you that Ali would ahve a very difficult time with Charles and Walcott and it would go the distance. With your comments on reach ... yes, this would hurt Marciano against Foreman, but not Ali.

Rocky Marciano the best in all history

Marciano is tough and would give almost any heavyweight a tough time, but its like the Dolphins, who really ranks them the all-time best since they were 17-0 ???
dorsi68 2 years ago
Marciano is one of the greatest pound-fro-pound fighters in history. He beat the best of the bunch... Louis, Charles, Walcott, Moore. You name 'em he beat 'em. But best of all he never bragged about it which is why his soo likeable.
NazhitsREALLYHARD 2 years ago
@NazhitsREALLYHARD, im a big Floyd fan but i don't think he's the G.O.A.T yet.
and i don't think Rocky's resume is as good as Ali's, Rock beat an ancient Louis, and good fighters like Welcott, Charles, etc...
Ali beat Liston twice, Frazier twice, Foreman, Norten, Shavers, etc..
GoCavs22 2 years ago
I never said Marciano's resume was better than Ali's. I just said that Marciano was a gentleman and so should be treated with the highest order of respect. He beat all that he faced with the "right" manner of approach. He ducked no-one and fought with his heart. What a fighter. What a man.
NazhitsREALLYHARD 2 years ago
@NazhitsREALLYHARD, yeah, he was a great champion.
GoCavs22 2 years ago
Well there you go then... he fought with dignity and respect... always praising others over himself whether it were Sonny Liston, Walcott or even Ali. He always had something good to say. Its rare to find that in boxing nowadays.
NazhitsREALLYHARD 2 years ago
@NazhitsREALLYHARD, yeah.
we're desperate (america) for a good heavyweight, in my opinion. there's this guy named Deontay Wilder im hoping will be the next great HW, he kind of reminds me of a young Lennox.
i just miss the great heavyweights.
GoCavs22 2 years ago
Marciano is who I dub "The pride of the white race" and who can argue with that?! In a sport which is mostly dominated by the black man, Marciano set the standard with a flawless record and some magical moments (that Walcott KO is something I'll never forget). In the 1940's and 50's Whites just didn't sit with Blacks... but Marciano always did... a gentleman at heart. He apologised to Joe Louis after their fight. They say they'll never be another Ali... believe me they'll never be another Rocky.
NazhitsREALLYHARD 2 years ago
What made Marciano such a warrior was his strict regime. No offence but today White people just get off on drinking alcohol and eating crap! Marciano discarded all that and was fed a diet of stiffs... weighing in only at 189 lbs he tore at the heavy bag with purpose. One unique training method was that he would jump into a pool and with the water shoulder high he would raise his arms "quickly" in order to give them "elevation power". That enabled him to gain tremendous power for his uppercuts.
NazhitsREALLYHARD 2 years ago
Good luck to Deontay... I wish the best for him.
NazhitsREALLYHARD 2 years ago
@NazhitsREALLYHARD, yeah, Rock was a great champ, that's really all you have to say.
and Deontay is 6-7, a freak athlete, has a huge right hand and a extremely long jab, we need a good heavyweight, BAD, in my opinion.
GoCavs22 2 years ago
Well yeah, whites haven't blossomed in the heavyweight ranks since Marciano. But I'm sure one will come around. God makes us all in diff ways.
NazhitsREALLYHARD 2 years ago
All these excuses that people find in Marciano fighting old guys... pls give me a break... you look at his fighters stats and you'll be amazed he was the underdog. He only weighed in 189 lbs... which meant that almost all his opponents had weight advantage (and they say Mayweather had a huge advantage over Marquez... BULLSHIT) also Marciano had a 68 inch reach (the shortest reach of all the heavyweight champions)... but what he lacked in gift, he made up with heart.
NazhitsREALLYHARD 2 years ago
His Suzie-Q was the only gift he had... he perfected it. Period. He wasn't just another fighter who beat up all guys... he beat them to a bleeding pulp... he made sure there were no excuses left for any of them to come back for another fight and in the case of Walcott and Charles... he KO'd them emphatically. But again, he was a gentleman. He only fought 'cause thats what he was good at... he took his fair share of punches too and as such NO-ONE should say anything bad about him.
NazhitsREALLYHARD 2 years ago
Hi there, I would not put Louis in the list of great fighters as he was a shell of himself. Although Moore and Walcott were late 30's and early 40's, they were still good fighters. My point was Marciano was a tough fighter, but there are at least 12 fighters who would have been undeafeated had they fought Marciano's 49 fights. I would say Marciano is in the top 30 fighters pound for pound ever.
dorsi68 2 years ago
And I say Marciano is the hardest hitter, pound 4 pound, ever. Right behind is Archie Moore and Tommy Hearns.
mongoose704 2 years ago
Hi there, I would rate Langford #1, Wilde #2, Louis #3, Saddler #4, Fitzsimmons #5, Moore #6, Foreman #7, Ketchell #8, Dempsey #9, Robinson #10. I would rate Marciano and Jefferies as having the best endurance ever though.
dorsi68 2 years ago
Good list. It's hard to do them with so many good and worthy fighters over the years.

marciano would have destroyed ali, all that dancin wouldn't mean shit marciano would have caught him sooner or later. i think it was ezzard charles that split marciano's nose wide open, they told rocky he had better end this fight right now or else. rocky turned his damn lights out the next round ! ROCKY RETIRED UNDEFEATED, & THATS THE WAY IT IS ! ! !
bonfiresandbeer 2 years ago
and also this happend in a racial time in american history.. ppl at that wanted to c ali lose cuz he was an african american..
MrTehbigcheese 2 years ago
listen up.. u have to realize ali wud beat marciano any day.. ali is the greatest of all time.. foreman was a harder puncher then marciano and ali beat him.. and some rocky fans dont kno shit about him they just say 49-0 , ''undefeated!!'' what u have to realize is 38 of his 49 fights were bums... no disrespect to rocky, ( great boxer) just not the best. ali is goat and always will be.. nuff said
MrTehbigcheese 2 years ago
Ali is great, and would beat Rocky, but Sugar Ray Robinson is the G.O.A.T
GoCavs22 2 years ago
No... Floyd Mayweather jr is the greatest of all time. Got alot of respect for Ali and Robinson but Floyd is the greatest.
NazhitsREALLYHARD 2 years ago
you guys forget one thing... ring magazine didnt even put ali on the best 100 punchers ever. marciano was listed as 15th. rocky beat you down. ali beat you on points. could rocky have knocked out ali? absolutely. could ali have hit rocky at will? absolutely. this fight was for fun and money. a what if.... but a glorious one to ponder.

0121bigz 2 years ago
Take Marciano v Walcott #1. Walcott was a good fighter, but about 60% the fighter scientifically and physically that Ali was.
Walcott was 38yo, had reasonable footwork though. He was walking rather than dancing by this stage of his career. Gave Marciano ALL HELL for 13 rounds (had an unbeatable points lead) until his tired legs just couldn't carry him away from the ropes and he got nailed.
brizfightfan 2 years ago
Re the "cut" point. Tell me one fight against a decent boxer where Marciano didn't end up bleeding badly. Ezzard Charles was a good fighter but not a big hitter and he had Marciano bleeding to death in their second fight within 8 rounds.
Ali's jab, with it's last split second twist on impact, would have cut Marciano to ribbons in 2 rounds. It would have been ugly.
brizfightfan 2 years ago
You're telling me a 185lb, 5'10", flat footed fighter with a bad tendency to cut who threw good (but not real fast) hooks was going to KO Ali?
No contest I'm sorry. A 212-216 lb under 30yo Ali would have laughed at him and cut him up like Cooper and Quarry. In 4 rounds or less.
A heavier, slower, older Ali would have absorbed those body / head shots from such a small man (Frazier, Foreman, Shavers, Liston were all bigger and hit harder) without blinking.
No contest.
brizfightfan 2 years ago
That's not Ali. Reality....he would have ripped Marciano in about 2 minutes
rossrosskenny 2 years ago
maybe but we wouldve know if they rly encountered each other but it wont cause marciano is dead :\
bulldogg1111 2 years ago
Actually, that WAS Ali you see on film, and Marciano (retired), too, before he was killed in the plane crash.
It's hard to say that Ali wouldn't have fought him like that when Ali was the one who filmed the rounds (well over 100) with Marciano, from which the computer selected a scenario.
Ali was a very good fighter, but by no means the greatest. It took a gift decision over Doug Ford and the two tank jobs by Sonny Liston to get him the title in the first place. One undefeated HW champ ever.
jfnjen 2 years ago 2
Ali would never have fought Marciano like this. Its ridicolous.

Marciano - one of my favourite HW champions of all times. But he is oh so overrated.

"who do you think would win in their prime honestly ali or Marciano"
MARCIANO BY KO. After sparring 70 1-min rounds with Ali, Rock (who was not a man to brag) said : "In my prime I would have killed him." And I go along with that.

rusten123 2 years ago
Ali if he uses his footwork and reach. If not proberly a ko for Marciano. If it did go the distance I think it will pretty close.
tinavjohn 2 years ago
As an Italian even I have to say that Ali most importantly was the SMARTEST fighter ever. His game plan and execution made him the greatest, even if other fighters had more power. He knew how to beat you.
thedarkocean 2 years ago
Ali in his era fought the best heavyweights in history, Liston, Frazier, Foreman. Those 3 would have cleaned Rock's clock, even Ken Norton and Shavers. Ali beat those guys post-prime.
Rocky is a hard hitter with two left feet. Ali, well ........had hell of alot more than that. Rock has a record and is the best White heavyweight, those are not solid grounds for the greatest of all time.
Prime Ali vs Prime Rocky: Ali wins by decision Rocky only dropped twice in his career to Moore and Walcott
joshmar11 3 years ago
It isn't hard to notice Rocky, drawing back for the mean hook and hay-maker. This was Clay when he was learning to become Ali.
scaffmasterus 3 years ago
Marciano's in an era of slipping an trading slugs. His toughest opponent was Charles Ezzard, He fought an old Joe louis, and old Walcott. Walcott even knocked him down at an age of 38 and went 13 rounds with Rocky.
joshmar11 3 years ago

That's fucked up if u ask me.

sniper99999999999 2 years ago
oh and not to mention, ali said marciano was hurting him bad during sparring........... meanwhile marciano was in his mid 40's and ali was in his late 20's........... ali said he'd hate to feel what a real punch from marciano felt like and for ali who is so cocky to say that, it must be true.
NONYOBIZNESS 3 years ago
As for Louis' honesty, he had extra marital affiars so he is no more honest anyone.
Louis was a slow footed fighter who waited for you to make a mistake and he fought "The Bumb a Month Club", and way past his prime when he fought Rock.
Marciano was great, as a kid he was all time favorite, but for the wrong reason, he wasn't black.
I still place him #2. Shavers is called the hardest puncher based on Ali saying he hit harder than Liston and Foreman and Holmes saying he hit harder than Tyson.
Bigbadben7 3 years ago
Shaver is not the hardest puncher. Marciano has knocked people out of the ring like in the movies.. MULTIPLE TIMES. So bcuz Joe Louis cheated on his wife he is a liar? LMFAOOO apparently u didn't watch the movie "Ali". GTFO with that shit. Who cares about his color. Marciano is still the worlds only undefeated heavyweight champion. He has broken peoples arms who blocked too much, he is considered the top swarmer of all time.
NONYOBIZNESS 3 years ago
The movie ALi? You show your stupidity.
It's the most inaccurate bio ever.
They have Cosell interviewing Clay after Liston I when it was closed crciut not Wide World/Sports.
ALi's conviction is overturned before Frazier I when it wasn't till after, ect.
Ali never fought Joe in his own prime anyway and was still 2-1
Savers/Foreman all called the hardenst hitters ever. Ali beat ledgends,
The 72 Dolphins were undefeated and everyone knows they would have lost to the 70s Steelers and 80s 49ers
Bigbadben7 3 years ago
are u a fucking moron? HE DID INFACT CHEAT ON HIS WIFE, THAT IS THE POINT AND REASONING FOR THE FIRST DIVORCE. So what u just wrote was A WASTE. And "EVERYONE KNOWS that the 72 dolphins would have lost to the blah blah blah?" NO. No they don't. You can assume, but that makes u an ass. Just as everyone knew the Giants would lose to the Patriots? LMAO Who won? Giants. The hardest hitters of all time were: Marciano, Foreman, Morrison,
