@teerexness I take it as you haven't been playing for that long. The longer you have played the guitar, the more nuances you'll hear between different type of gear. The ESP Eclipse and the POD HD500 are both great, but they can't really be compared to a PRS in my opinion.
@MyLifeChanger, I've been playing for 35 years. 25 professionally, including many years working in musical equipment retail. I've lost count of how many guitars, amps & pedals I've owned. And many, many more I've played, including PRS. I think you missed the part about "Variax" in my ESP. Nuanceus Maximus. And it most certainly does compare. And this P22 is an overpriced one-trick pony in comparison.
@teerexness Once again, I can't believe that you're actually comparing a variax with a PRS w/piezo. Perhaps your setup sounds fun when jamming in the garage, but if you're a pro gigging musician and session guitarist in the studio you really couldn't be using that stuff. The Line6 stuff is just a toy, and saying the P22 is a one-trick pony is just ridiculous. The McCarty style guitars is very versatile and the piezo sounds very good too. But of course compared to your 200 guitars in 1 setup...
@MyLifeChanger, I've used my Variax equipped ESP at both paying gigs and in the studio. I am a pro gigging. You don't actually READ comments do you? Modeling is completely different than just having piezo sensors going into single tone shaping circuit, giving it a blend control and calling THAT versatile. Try playing "Stairway to Heaven" on the PRS, with all the correct guitars. Oh, and my "toy" has been in rigorous daily use (no batteries) for over a year since completed. How about your P22?
@MyLifeChanger, Search "Adrian Belew Parker" or "Steve Howe variax". Or search "James Tyler Variax: Acoustic Sounds". I've been converting to more live work and less studio lately, but I used my ESP/Variax on a recording a while back because it had a better Knopfler-esque tone than my Strat does. If I were called upon for studio work again, I would use it without reservation. Zero hum or buzz on a Les Paul/ Rectifier setting inches from my computer is also very, very nice. Does the P22 do that?
@MyLifeChanger, commercial work. I don't own it. Search my suggestions. They apparently do. I do intend to create a demo of my rig and post it on YouTube in the near future.
I think we all agree that nothing will sound like an old Gibson, Martin or a great Taylor acoustic...That said, I think that this solidbody piezo equipped PRS is great on different levels. If you've ever owned a PRS solidbody you know that they are so naturally resonant already that adding the piezo will sound good. Plus the feel will be just as any classic PRS electric. And it's so practical for us gigging players--a multifaceted tool for performance! If you're an acoustic purist, not for you!
I want/need this guitar! I have a 6 yr old Artist Hollowbody II with the piezo system. Is it possible to repair the system's individual string pickup sensors or does it have to be replaced entirely? The low E and with the B or high E are not being picked up anymore on the Piezo system. is there an authorized repair shop in Houston, Tx?? Thanks for your time. I will only ever play/own Paul Reed Smith guitars.
P.S. I saw you guys at NAMM! I really enjoyed the band at The Hilton!!
On a brand new Hollowbody II that I owned, I could never get the Piezo bridge low enough before bottoming out, which made it impossible to achieve good action on this $4200 guitar. In addition, the Piezo controls were VERY scratchy right out of the box. I could only think that these were design/quality issues that the factory let go out the door to prevent redesigning the Piezo bridge and controls to save money. PRS -- I would like your viewpoint on this...BTW - I still like PRS guitars.
@JonMcCulloughBand We certainly didn’t cut any corners on the design or construction of the Piezo unit and the system should work perfectly. The guitar is warranted through the authorized dealer it was purchased from. If you are the original owner & are experiencing problems you feel are warranty related, contact your authorized PRS dealer immediately. Your dealer can evaluate the guitar and if need be, assist you in having the guitar sent back to the PRS factory for further evaluations.
Elderly Instruments new -- shipping from Seattle is costly and a real hassle, too. I then called PRS, where I was told it shouldn't be a problem, but I could send the guitar in if I wanted. A friend had the same issue with his Hollowbody II, so I sold the guitar for the typical 1/2 price hit of a new PRS. It had very nice wood work and finish details, but simply did not setup and play like a PRS should (not even close), which is the most important aspect to me.
Hey Everybody, My Name is Alex, plz take 2 mins and check out out my bands music, we just released a song called "I Hate it" its a song i think everybody could relate to, Btw if the next guitar im getting is a PRS there the greatest guitar ever, id kill for 1, my dad has a 59 Les Paul ressuie and i try'd a PRS and the PRS was SOOOOO much better!, best guitars in the world :) Thanks for the support!!!! :) Plz Comment on wut u think. also Paul....... UR A FUCKING GUITAR MAKING GOD!!!!!!!
I love PRS, but I HATE the sound of Piëzo's..it adds that "plastic" kind of sound to the acoustic sound coming from the strings. This PRS / Baggs piezo is no exception. Doesn't sound like a real acoustic guitar to my ears...but YMMV.
Fantastic guitar, sound and tech, but $3k+? I guess I'll never own one or have the pleasure of playing.

Another fantastic innovation from Mr.Paul Reed Smith. Great job with this guitar and I hope to get my hands on one soon!

A little like my Variax equipped ESP Eclipse II/Pod HD500 combination. Only this costs about $1200 more and it's much less versatile.

The playing was so beautiful at the end, I actually forgot what I was doing. No joke, I have no idea what I was about to research.
If you release a P24, please be sure to shout the news from the roof of the factory!
