The music is super impressive, considering the games I usually play on Atari only have the ability to make a bleep or a fart blap. One of my friends opened up the cartradge, and there's a whole seprate chip in there just for the music. Effort this took indeed.
I had this for coleco vision. Its been about 22 years, but I think the music was slightly different. Same melody but different key (minor) and harry was all brown with a white face. Can anyone attest to this? Thanks.
I miss the days when video games were like this. Flat, pixilated and awesome. They left so much to the imagination and then some. GTA 4 is great but leaves little room for interpretation.
I'm unfamiliar with the Atari 800 and too lazy to look it up, but this is an impressive game for the early 80s with its background music and vertically scrolling boards. I ended up getting the Pitfall game on the NES and it was pretty odd. I don't think I ever beat it, but it's funny how I see so many similarities between this game and the NES one (including the theme music).
He was so traumatized after Super Pitfall (I think it should be called Super Pitfall II because of how much it resembles The Lost Caverns) that he let himself get eaten at the beginning of The Mayan Adventure.
One of the best games for the Atari 2600. However, I forgot how annoying the music could be. What platorm is being shown here? Is it the 5200? The 2600 sure wasn't this detailed on the rocks, trees, etc.
Loved the gameplay on this, but the "endless life" thing in exchange for being sent back to the most recent cross drove me NUTSSSSS. Not to mention that theme music (MUTE button used a lot).
Friends.. Rejoice.. Pitfall 3 wannabe is here! It's a Free game with 7 levels to explore! just Youtube: Cliffall Pitfall tribute by idealsoft. I made the game all by my self and it's way way better than that Super Pitfall shame....hehe
Great, great, GREAT game! I remember playing this for hours when I was younger. Pitfall II was definitely a milestone in the Jump'n'Run genre.
David Crane later made "A boy and his blob" for the NES where you could see many parallels to Pitfall II, and even the new remake on Wii resembles it a bit.
And because I love Pitfall II so much above any other game, I am creating a Pitfall III wish a be! see my website on my youtube page! for the demo download. You be glad you did. It's free (the demo that is with 4 playable levels!) or watch the video here on youtube by typing on the search field: CLIFFALL ! - freeware Pitfall tribute
That said, if you can get your hands on the 5200 or Atari 8-bit versions of Pitfall 2 and haven't already played it, please do. It's quite an awesome game even today.
Thank you! I will remember this music til the day I die....... I must have played this game a thousand times. Does anyone remember riding on the balloons deep down in the cavern? And I, too, hated those fucking birds! What today's kids don't understand is that this game was AMAZING to us back then. As was even the idea of a cell phone, or a microwave, or a DVD player. We've come a long way in a very short time.
We weren't retarded, so we could play games that weren't about a soldier wearing robot armour, an emo vampire, or a chick with quadruple D breasts. I miss those days.
There's something amazingly atmospheric about the original two Pitfall games. The first time I played this one, I felt completely overwhelmed by the sheer size of the caverns, compared to the linear jungles of the first game.
I played the crap out of this game back in the day. It's a true classic and a great adventure game.

When Pitfall! was made, a great game was introduced to the masses.
When Pitfall II was made, an even better game was introduced to the masses.
When Super Pitfall was made for the NES, Activision realized one of the, for lack of a better term, pitfalls of milking a franchise.

The atari 5200 had the second level. Then again I think the Atari 5200 was a console version of the Atari 800, or 400 at least. Awesome game.
frigginjoe 2 years ago
Actually, it was half way between a 600XL (it had the GTIA), and the 400/800 due to having joysticks 3 & 4, instead of the advanced MMU.
