  • John! great job :) I love the harmonies, and the line about chester and his dog. You worked some magic there..

  • Greatist song of all time!

  • Great cover

  • Johnny Boy!

    Nice job!

I agree that you captured the spirit of the song, and then you made it yours.

Sounds really good, but I still sing it better!!!!

Hope to see you at Mike's soon.

    Jim L

  • Thanks Jim - How about this: Let's sing it together. We'll call it "Mike's Newtown Basement Idol," and whichever one of us ends up with fewer groupies has to buy the other one a six pack...;-)

  • Thanks Scott. Love your story about the radio. Funny thing I learned while reading up on the history of the song - there were three covers of it in the first couple of years after it was released that actually charted higher than the original!

    Happy New Year, my friend...

  • Love this song... You did it justice, jperryam!!!

  • Thanks Holly! Love sharing the passion...

  • Great job!

    Perhaps my favorite!

  • Kind words...thank you!

  • sweet job Johnny boy P.

  • Thanks T - It really was a labor of love...

  • Sounds like studio to me, but around these parts its usually heard down on the river at loud and crazy parties. *****

  • Gotta love those loud and crazy river parties! Thanks for those stars, my friend!

  • Great song ....

  • I love this Johnny!!

Great playing, great harmonies, and a GREAT song!!

    Looking forward to more.

  • Thanks BT - I'd love to have a couple of beers and jam on this one with you some day...

  • Great job Johnny! Nice to see you're still singing this one. Don't forget to keep it alive at Kabuki!

  • Thanks JC - We were there Saturday night for the first time in a blue moon. We usually bust this one out if Dirty Kirty is around. Haven't seen him for a while...

  • Nice! The motif of a traveler, who arrives in Nazareth in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania. Once there, he encounters various residents of the town, the song being a story of these encounters. Nazareth is the hometown of the guitar manufacturer C. F. Martin & Company. So instead of enjoying himself, he is doing favors for everyone else during vacation time. The only one who was not imposing was Fanny who just wanted others to get her regards.

    (Robertson inspired by Buñuel films)

  • Glad you like it. Great story and a great song. Over the years I've spent a vacation or two working myself ;-)

  • Pretty good stuff.

  • Thank you, LL! I really had a blast doing it...

  • sounds good to me 5*

  • it isn't easy to do a staple like this justice, but you certainly have. 5 stars and fav'd.

  • Many thanks, my friend. This song has always been a joy to sing...
