Great version of the song. I was showing my 4 year old daughter the bluegrass version of the song on her clock toy and she asked if you were the old man in the song!
I'm doing a report on the history of my town, and I found out that Henry Works wrote this song about his dad who grew up in my town of Lowell Vermont. It was said that mr. Works old clock stopped the minute he died, never to go again.
morning from Newfoundland again, another beautiful morning--great music, Mac great playing and Annie great singing and backup and also you have just about the prettiest smile that God ever painted on a lady's face--take care, God Bless---Dave
I have searched for Grandfathers Clock for a long time. What a great rendition that you two play. Now thats the way it is supposed to be done! Excellent!
Two less strings to contend with - the banjo 5th string is a drone and generally doesn't need to be fretted. I had a guitar many moons ago. I only played with open tunings. A friend suggested I try the banjo - that's how they are tuned. Give it a whirl!
if i can get a banjo i definetly will. is it a lot simpler then it sounds? listening to all the different sounds the banjo is making makes it sound very hard.
I've played guitar for man years, but started playing banjo a few months ago.. I'd say the banjo is far more fun then the guitar, even though I like both.. Clawhammer and rolls, doesnt matter.. Banjo FTW...
how beautiful that was,ya made me smile the whole video, very heartfelt feeling, love playin my fiddle to this with my banjo friend,,thanks,i suscribed to ya's,,so,,keep em comin,,!lol,,happy new year may god bless~~~
Thanks so much for telling me what key you're doing it in, you don't know how much I appreciate it, haha. One of my favorite songs, and you two do such a good job.
Just a comment for Mac, I made the observation that you keep your hands off the banjo when you strum, you might have heard this before but that could cause you problems later. By the way beautiful job on the song, I really enjoyed it.
I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure there's no way to clawhammer with your hand anchored. You can see the worn area near the bridge where he anchors his pinky when playing bluegrass-style.
Also, just a suggestion, you guys should record a version of "Little Birdie". It's always been one of my favorite clawhammer tunes.
I love the way you do this song. I wish I could play it on banjo (you make it look so easy) and Annie has a beautiful voice and a lovely smile. Awesome!
Thanks so much for a wonderful version of this much beloved song. Haven't heard it in ages and I just loved watching and listening to you folks do it. *****
Really well done, folks!
