  • didn't this almost result in a Braves forfeit with the fans throwing beer on the Padres players?

  • search 1984 bean brawl game in MLB video to see the highlights, very funny

  • This particular game is still talked about among baseball fans fairly often here in San Diego! I remember listening to the call on the radio at the time.

  • Only thing missing on TBS that day was Ric Flair. WHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Stylin and profiling!!!

  • Be nice if someone had Tape the whole game somewhere in Usa n Put the whole game on Ypu tube with the start n accouncers call too

  • @MrLehnerd Yeah, but MLB would get it taken down posthaste.

  • i saw highlights of this brawl on tv, clearly had to be the best baseball brawl of all-time.

  • This was one of the greatest bean ball wars in history. I remember watching it live on WTBS. They had an hour and half rain delay and almost called the game. In the second fracas you can see one of the Padres players come over to the dugout to talk shit and a fan stands on top of the dugout and douches him with a full chugger of beer!

  • @captmclain

OMG......that fan with the beer was my husband! He has told me about this for years....didn't know he was on YOU TUBE!!!!! LOL!

  • I was there live in the upper deck. There was a 2 hr rain delay before the game started. I almost left

  • where is the part where a limo turns the corner, JFK & Jackie appear and then disappear behind the Stemmons Freeway Sign ?

oops..guess that was a different film...

  • I was there, right behind the Braves' dugout like three rows back. I was 13 and just remember being scared haha

  • can't tell who is who......

  • @NatsTown2K10 Well the black uniforms would be the Padres, right? Their main colors were black and yellow back then, I believe

  • @stephl349 : Brown, yellow and orange. They looked like Burger King employees

  • @stephl349 brown and yellow

  • It seems mr zapruder was at 2 historic events. Notice how the pitcher's head goes back and to the left when hit from a fist in the front right temple

  • Craig Lefferts cemented his rep as a badass, on that day. Without Craig the pads don't go to the WS in 1984. He was goose's setup man and pitched 100 innings with an ERA at 2.13 . Lefferts had like 6 pitches, a true junkmeister. He was the winning pitcher in 2 of the Padres 3 NCLS victory over the cubbies. Indespensable.

  • i'll always remember this game. we sat behind the plate upper level...watching horner with his crutches and all...also dale murphy chasing some fan out towards center field tackling him to the ground....i always seemed to be at a braves game when wierd stuff happened!...was there in 1993 when we got mcgriff...and the stadium caught fire..we were in there watching warm ups when it happened..and then we heard a KA BOOM..thats when everyone had to get out....

  • August 12th, 1984 - the only double forfeit in baseball history.

  • I remember watching this on televsision. Pascual Perez hit the Padres pitcher every time he came to bat. Wasn't the game called after 7 and a 1/2?

I remember Bob Horner had that weird cast with the electro-stimulation so he looked like Darth Vader. When he came out of the dugout he had a bad in the other hand.

  • i remember watching this game and graig nettles hit with the first pitch of the 9th inning and the braves announcers saying ,here we go again

  • What A Classic!! The game between the Padres and the Braves was the only contest -- in Major League Baseball history -- that resulted in a double forfeit in 1984. So much for yesterday. A Historic 5!!

  • That 84 Padres team was something else!

  • Chief Nokahoma lol

  • My first ball game I was 5 still remember fans throwing beer on the players

  • Damn - this fight is killer...I was in Ireland and they showed the highlights on the BBC. Thanks for putting it up!

  • Pascual Perez crazy behind lol

  • Padres kicked ass

  • The incident that started all of this actually happened the day before. The Padres were up by 8 or 9 runs, late, and Alan Wiggins broke the unwritten rule by bunting. Thus, Pascual Perez nailed him with the first pitch the next day.

  • I saw it on TV. It was so cool. I loved this game. Peace to Pascual Perez.

  • I remember this! You can't really tell here but at about the 1:20 mark a Padre goes running towards the dugout, but he is met by big 3rd Baseman Bob Horner. Horner wasn't dressed for the game, but when this started he went back and put his uniform on.

  • Wow! before any flip cams or cell phone cams someone had a 12 pound beta home vid cam at the park! thats awesome!

  • @scanny3 Yeah, they'd never let you film a game these days.

  • Awesome game, I remember watching this game on TBS! Wildest game I have ever watched.......PERIOD!!! Brave fan for life!

  • Love the guys who ran to the dugout....very slowly....lol...Champ Summers and Bevacqua were kick ass...

  • @SD1Chargers Yeah, the ran to the dugout to attack an injured Bob Horner who had a cast on his arm. Don't think I would mess with someone with a cast. That's a pretty hard weapon.

  • @hbogart57 Horner earlier was doing play-by-play in the booth. Later was in uniform to protect a fellow teammate. Don't want mess Horner back then.Luckily both teams had guys like Garvey(Padres) and Murphy(Braves) who kept cool heads and didn't tarnish their images to the many youngsters in the stands.

  • @hbogart57 Summers was actually going after Pascual Pere, who had hidden in the dugout.

Because of his broken wrist, Horner started the game sitting in the press box, dressed in street clothes. When things got sketchy, he went downstairs, put on his uniform and joined his team in the dugout. He was standing guard at the dugout.

  • @SageOftheSubway : Yep, Perez drilled Allan Wiggins with the first pitch of the game and everytime PP would come up to bat they couldn't get him. Once they finally hit him it was on!

  • @hbogart57 : Horner originally was in the press box in his street clothes and after the first fracas went down to the clubhouse and got dressed in his uni to be the enforcer. That guy had Popeye forearms. He would have smashed any of those padres players.

  • @hbogart57 Actually they ran to the dugout to attach Pasquel Perez who was hiding there. Horner came out to protect Perez. Wild game though.

  • @SD1Chargers : Bevacqua was a douche!

  • PADRES BEAT SOME ASS

  • I see somebody hiding behind the bushes on top the grassy knoll

  • @rowdyism Probably waiting to spit on someone. Like Roger McDowell.

  • @rowdyism DON'T BLASPHEME, SON. WE KNOW NOW ( THANKS TO DIGITAL REMASTERING OF AUDIOTAPES MADE) THAT SEVERAL GUNS WERE FIRED AT JFK ON NOV22,1963 AND ONE OF THEM CAME FROM THE " GRASSY KNOLL". DIG?

  • I was there, 13 at the time, not sitting far from you. . Probably the craziest Braves game I will ever see

  • @tomxconn Yeah, this was definately a memorable game. I was 8 at the time.

  • @hbogart57 i was 74 at the time. took my grandkids melba and schwantz to the old ballyard and a fight broke out. it was helluva scrap but melba won in the end. the ballgame between the atlanta nine and the team from the west coast was also entertaining. my late wife gert and i were living in the atlanta suburb of old townville at the time. she, a textile laborer and i a textile worker took pleasure in those warm sunday afternoons at the old ballyard. on this occassion i think a brawl had broken

  • @hbogart57 I was 13 living in Jersey and remember seeing the photos in Sports Illustrated. I couldn't believe what I was looking at. Still haven't seen the full melee in quality I can comprehend. maybe someone will put together famous MLB brawls like they do for the NHL.

  • Because it's the camera that we had. answer your question.

  • Stop being a little Bitch.

  • You talking to me gfscarface? I was just answering the guys question. It was the camera we had, that's it. Butt out!!!

  • @ hbogart57

Yes I was talking to you.

You dont have to be a Smart Ass BItch with "that answer your question"

    Only Pussies talk like that.

DONT EVEN RESPOND YOU BIG PUSSY

I DONT CARE IF YOU BLOCK ME FROM THIS GAY ASS VIDEO.

    FUCK YOU FAGGOT!!!!!

  • I'm not going to block you, gfscarface. You don't know me so you can't make any judgment about how I am. What you really need is Jesus? Ask him to come into your heart and He will change your attitude dramatically. For the better. I know He changed my life.

  • @hbogart57

Great answer to this person! God bless!

  • I remember this well. I was actually at the game the day before. We tried to talk our parents into going to this one as well, but the anwer was "no." When we got home and found out what had happened, we were quite upset. It's still a sore point for me and my brothers to this day. We just wanted to see Pascual Perez pitch- the brawl would have been a bonus. Good video.

  • Someone posted a full account of the brawls on youtube a while back, but I'm guessing that it has sinced been removed. This was by far the craziest brawl sequences I've ever seen in a baseball game. They threw at Perez every time he came to bat.

  • I was at the game, behindthe first base dugout about 25 or so rows up.

One notable thing that happened during that fight is that Gossage was charging towards the Braves dugout after the fight got restarted and Bedrosian basically body-slammed him.

I think the ballpark organist was playing "Why Can't We Be Friends" after they settled everything down....the game ended with police lining the field (not very common for a MLB game in those days. Braves won 9-5.

  • This was the most fun we had back in those days! lol. The Braves had won the division in 82, were contenders but lost to LA in 83, and were on their way to falling short in 84 (and soon to be the worst team in the NL West until '91), and this was a time for us to have something besides Dale Murphy to cheer about. I watched at my grandparents. We had a ball.

  • I've been a casual Padres fan since the late 70's, and I think they did right by showing Pascual Perez that they wouldn't be intimidated. However I think Champ Summers was a jerk for running clear over to the Atlanta dugout to re-start the fight.

  • I remember wondering if Bob Horner was going to club one of the Padres players with his cast at the top of the dugout steps.

  • This coming Friday, Oct 30 2009,MLB Network is showing a documentary on the Padres season. I think it's called triumph and tragedy-1984 San Diego Padres season. One of the clips is a shirtless Ed Whitson shaking his fist from the dugout. MLB throwing a bone, hopefully more than just a blurb!

  • Thanks. I have it set to record. I'm kinda torn on whether to watch, I wanna see if they mention this brawl but, as a Cubs fan, 1984 brings back memories of being so close to a World Series. I'll just have to skip that part of the show.

  • I'm going to check it out also. A real collection of characters on that Padres team!

  • I remember that game! I turned it on in the middle of one of the early fights. It made for interesting stadium talk when the Padres got home from the trip. Oh, even though I'm a Padres fan, Eric Show deserved getting beer tossed on him!

  • How many brawls were there that day? Four, or five, I think. Or is that how many times they had to throw at Perez before they finally nailed him?

  • @generalbullmoose It was my old classmate (Gage Elementary in SD) Craig Lefferts that finally plunked the punk. In 5th or 6th grade he was in fight with larry williams . larry took a punch to the ear then stuck his tongue out , to show it didn't hurt. At that exact moment Craig hit the pussy with a left and larry bit into his tongue. Blood was everywhere. Needless to say, larry lost, big time.

  • I remember that game very well. I think there were something like 15 guys suspended. Several fights broke out the whole game. Perez in the dugout with the baseball bat. And even in the 8th or 9th, Donnie Moore hit someone with a pitch, and the benches cleared again. Some fan hit Eric Show with a beer, and some fans were looting the dugout. It was the craziest baseball game ever.

  • I remember too. The first pitch of the game Perez pegged Alan Wiggins in the ribs. I think there was 4 fights. I also remember somebody coming on the field and stealing Dale Murphy's helmet or hat. Too bad MLB is so strict on written consent. I would love to see the game in its entirity.

  • I wanted to get a full video of this game. It blows my mind, MLB wont let anyone see it. I tell people about it, but they don't believe it. I tried TBS, but nothing. But yeah, I've been a Braves fan since '82. Never gave up on them when they were in the cellar. I remember those old days with Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, Claudell Washington, Glenn Hubbard, Rafael Ramirez, Phil Neikro, Bob Camp, Steve Bedrosian, Chris Chambliss. Hopefully, they will let Bobby Cox go out with a Series next year!

  • Same here. I remember when everybody would make fun of me for rooting for the Braves. It felt so good when they started winning. Anyway, this is the craziest game ever next to Pacers/Pistons brawl.

  • It was hilarious the way the Padres threw at I-285 Perez and then when Bob Horner who had a broken wrist at the time, tangled with Champ Summers and a fan threw a big gulp beer on Summer's head! Ah the good ole days.

  • It would have been funny to see Steve Garvey and Dale Murphy go at it.

  • it began when Pasquel Perez beaned a few padres

  • Oh my clasic i remember that time..84 wow..Looks just like i remembered..

    EMPTY.lol

    DBN

  • what kind of camera was used?

  • apparently the same one Zapruder used.

  • @bmcorc1

    lol

  • It was one of those old 8mm type cameras that my parents had. We had the film converted to VHS later on. When I watch other footage we have from my childhood, it reminds me of "The Wonder Years."
