how do u know if u hooked up backwards. i have a old capacitor and i dont know which termanal is which. one has like a little grid and the other termanal is just blank how do i find out with out blowin it up
Find out what kind of capacitor it is first. Not all capacitors are polarized, mostly just electrolytic ones. These are cylindrical and usually have a groove on one end. If you aren't sure, just don't use it; capacitors are cheap.

what voltage/amperage did you use?

My electrolytics must be cheap, because mine exploded in seconds not minutes.

Blew up a 100uf 16 volt electrolytic in electronics lab myself when no one else was looking. Quite a loud noise for something of that size.
Did anything happen to the last three ? I wonder what that tantalum one on the very left of the breadboard did.

try put them right into the 230v. makes them blow sooo much the bigger! 4.7uF and 47uF makes the best explotions, just watch my 3 vids of it :P
