  • Qui a dit que la grammaire anglaise était facile ?

  • amazing tute ...

  • Thank you, that was helpful.

  • He talks to fast for students to understand and uses word to big for students to understand. Alex you stink.

  • @TWMIKE10 I have tried to accommodate ESL learners and regular English speakers in this video. I do appreciate the criticism though, and will keep it in mind for future videos.

  • @AlexESLvid Well, I am a non-native English speaker and I don't feel that you speak too fast. In fact, in my opinion you speak perfectly fine. I shall give you 99 out of 100. Thanks for the video and keep the good work up !

  • @AlexESLvid don't worry about that cunt Alex.i know so bad grammar from me, but you'r a great teacher so fuck em.

  • @TWMIKE10 No understand big word? You dumb, video not for you.

  • @TWMIKE10 What knowledge, or background, allow you to use that type of adjective? Your ignorant is much madness.

  • what about a case of 'refer'? refer has forms like referred, referring. they say it /ri/-/f/-/(schwa) e : r/. i really wonder if refer is categorized as cvc. to categoraize it into the cvc type, the final sound (schwa e : r) should be a consonant. BUT to my ear the final sound of refer is a vowel. im confused.

  • I was born and raised in England and for some reason I never learned these rules. We just sort of learned spelling and you picked up whether to double consonants or not subconsciously. Strange.

  • @MetalSwitch95 it's the same in canada, bu these lessons are for people who were not born in canada and so they wouldn't really understand the reason for doubling without learning a rule

  • 'visit' does not double the "t" for a different reason: the stress lies on the first syllable, not on the last one. Examples of consonant doubled because of final stress woul be 'admitted'.

  • This is i real good lessun i think. Sum people don't actualy understand the consept of proper gramma and how its affecting our sosiety and kids today. Well done, hope to see moar from you. :)

  • @greyface666 That made me laugh ^_^

    Excellent video.

  • me gusto mucho

  • are you a teacher this really helps,i am trying to improve my English so i can go to university.I suffer mainly from spelling mistakes,puh...thanks for the lesson

  • شكرا

  • great lessons

  • Congratulations, Alex. Very good explanation. If you make another video about this I think it'd be a good idea (once you've mentioned "quit" and "equip" regarding phonetics) to add the rule governing the verbs ending in "x" or "w". As you know they're not doubled because of pronunciationMIX /ks/ , SOW /seu/. Thanks a lot for your lessons. An English teacher from Spain.

  • @pepeyma The same applies for visit -> visited (no doubles)

  • wow, this is pretty new to me, thank you!

  • An alternate apprach:

Rule: double consonants often mark short stressed vowels.

    stoped might be pronounced stoapd.

    admiting might be pronounced /ad'maiting/

stopped with 2 p's indicates that the o is not pronounce long.
