love this video all my best childhood memories are from this place!! so sad its gone! they dont have places anywhere near as good as barry island now!!! wish i could of taken my kids here :-)
A trip down memory lane, I loved Butlins Barry Island visited 1983-1984. My brother and I would sneak into the night club busby's. Happy happy memories.
i miss this place shame the council shut it down its a real shame the place has gone even the fair ground is struggling to suvive barry ilsand has gone in to a grave yard cince the camp has gone
Never went to this camp but i have been to many of the other camps, used to go every year and it makes me feel so so sad that those days have gone now, times have changed but not for the better!!
It's so upsetting to see what has happened to most of the Butlins holiday camps but it is nice to see wahat they were like through these videos.
Awesome Matt, totally brings it back to life. Well done on a quality production and thank you for the trip down memory lane, am a grown man with tears in my eyes.
Only a couple of weeks ago I was trying to explain to a visitor what stood where the house's now stand.
As a child we used to visit this place every year we even spent christmas there when i was 7, It was the most amazing place, I have three children now and would have loved them to experience it, this video has bought back so many lovely memories for me. Thank you .
im 18 and went there as a kid of what i can remember its sad to see the swimming pool and the whole place abandoned on this vid and its not the same now when you go to barry as i live couple of miles away its gone a complete crap hole now including the fair
What a fabulous glance at social history! I grew up nearby and had a few daytrips here ... the holiday camp was of its time and our expectations have moved on. A well compiled video, I can feel the warmth and sentimentality... quite sad from 4:15 onwards... a gem for schoolkids comparing then and now.
I was there in 1980, it was an experience to say the least !, met some great people, enjoyed the pub in barry island, loved the welsh girls singing to me, worked with some fellow kiwis, couldnt believe people holidayed in places like that, but it served a purpose in those days of massive unemplyment tho
My sister worked a season at Barryisland Butlins for a season in the late 60s early 70s. Her memories were of patching up drunken young men who had been fighting. She remembers body lice as being a bit of a problem in the camp. Ah happy days'.
