  • "Landlocked in bodies that don't keep. Dumbstruck by the sweetness of being, till we don't be."

    My God.

  • Joanna's a true artist. Fuck you Joanna... I love her... She can give me boner while I cry from her songs and then goosebumps all at a time, and much more than that...

  • Love you, Emily! :)) :)) :))

  • no different from cultural music until it was distroyed

  • real music im in love

  • Transcendental xxx Thanks Jo!

  • I still can't imgine why some people can't understand how amazing she is. Listeninf to Joanna Newsom is better than an orgasm, really !

  • The ending of this song (from 11:10) is completely breathtaking. I just can stop listening, I think I could jus die listening to this.

  • The silence afterwards is heartbreaking.

  • which album should I get by her?? (i can only get one)

  • @MrBeesknees95 both of her last records are incredibly beautiful.. I would say Y's. it's a very condensed album and it took me awhile to interpret the lyrics but I can say that I felt in love with all the feelings that are involved into it..

  • @MrBeesknees95 Y's y's y's y's y's y's y's y's y's y's!

  • My name is Emily. After hearing this, that is THE biggest honor in the world

  • @PoetryAddict8 though break its about her sister

  • @sonoskay

    Doesn't matter. Music's universal mang

  • This is one of the most beautiful pieces of poetry ever written:

That the meteorite is the source of the light.

And the meteor's just what we see.

And the meteoroid is a stone thats devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee.

And the meteorite's just what causes the light.

And the metoer's how it's perceived.

And the meteoroid's a bone thrown from the void that lies quiet in offering to thee.

  • @Oracle428 MY FAVOURITE PART

  • @Oracle428 Everyone really does need to see these lyrics written down like this. When you're just listening to Ms Newsom the art is so rhythmic & hypnotic that you don't always break down every individual line... you just start dreaming. Also b/c when she writes she makes literally every sentence its own seperate poem, sometimes we're so focused on one line that we might miss the one next to it. You really just have to take out one passage lke this & examine. You'll never fail to find magic.

  • This is the greatest and best song in the world.

  • @TheSkwrk Tenacious D?

  • wait: sadie, sawdust and diamonds, in california, have one on me

  • I definitely don't have a favorite Joanna Newsom song.. I think Sadie is pretty important for The Milk-Eyed Mender. Ys is all gold except Cosmia is not as good as the others. Monkey and Bear is the most different and exciting and is so important, but Sawdust and Diamonds, Only Skin, and Emily are all weighty as hell. I am in love with Have One On Me. In California and the namesake are probably best, but that's just ignoring all amazing songs: Baby Birch, Good Intentions, On A Good Day, Esme....

  • @gildedfryingpan, this intrigues me because Cosmia amazes me. It's funny how what doesn't sound good to one person can be so important to another. I guess it has something to do with past experiences and what each person values aesthetically.

  • @beautifulpyre no....cosmia is just the weakest lyrically and jerkiness about the vocals going with the tempo of the song. I love all of her songs though. I'm her biggest fan. OH but the harp is very pretty in Cosmia. I was actually listening to it last night.

  • For me, one of the best songs of the XXI century. You made a very good video, btw!

  • absolutely love it. this is the song i wake up to in the morning. in on my alarm clock, ringtone , doorbell , it's like everywhere !

  • @mebug15 After reading this, I've put this song on my phone and am getting it to wake me up tomorrow :)

  • One of my favorite Joanna songs. Her wordsmithing ability never ceases to amaze me!

  • How does she find inspiration to write a twelve minute song?!

  • @TheJokerNr1

12 minutes isn't hard to do...

Clearly you've never listened to Pink Floyd, ELP, Rush , Yes, Dream Theater, Devil Doll, or practically any prog band...

  • @CompulsiveDesigns Most of the prog bands you mentioned don't have songs with lyrics that span the entirety. They usually have instrumental breaks. Most, if not all, of Joanna's songs don't do that and manage to avoid using repeating choruses throughout.

  • @Orian78 well she does repeat the meteorite section in this song

    I'm just nitpicking

  • @AmazingPurpleCat

Oh well, as a matter of fact this song isn't through-composed whatsoever and thus DOES have a classic strophic song-structure of verse, pre-chorus, chorus, verse etc. only that the parts composed of verse and pre-chorus(es) are each about four minutes in length ;)

  • jesus (a spirit )

  • One of my absolute favorites.

  • this song is sooo goood!
