  • Of course you will have to blink to not dry out your eyes. Every little blink does make a little signalflow, however, it's only minorly setting you back.

You will notice this best when you're close to seeing nothing / eyes blacking out.

If you blink at that time, the signal "resets" for a second or two, but quickly the brain "cuts" out the connection again when the same boring non-signal comes.

It's all about our brains need for constant information.

  • This neural noise will connect and create hallucinations as the brain randomly tries to connect your visual area with any other area that seems fit in the brain.

This will be memory, often facial recognitions, music and rhytm etc.

However, none of the signals "corresponds" correctly with what the brain recognises as eyes and hearing, so it will constantly be a changing hallucinating experience.

It does demand NO OTHER SENSORY INPUT.

  • Since there's stupid responses here, let's get the facts straight :

YES, you MUST have your eyes open for the mind to get the report that eyelids are open, but the signal is "lost".

Use a headset for the white noise. Same rule here, no other information much reach your ears, the brain must believe the signal is lost.

After a while, the brain will cut off the signalflow to your eyes ( ears are harder ).

The brain will then start generating neural noise to search for your "lost signal".

  • what if u put the thing while someone asleep and when they woke up?"OH SHIT"

  • When i did this it was amazing, I couldn't tell if I was asleep or not, but i saw a acoustic guitar come out of nowhere and start playing a song, then fly off again, Next thing i know its gone, I am running through a snow covered field, After that a man comes out and grabs my hand at takes me

  • i did this and i saw light moving back and forth as if sumone was moving blinds back and forth then a tunnel of purple and finally red fireworks

  • hey man please reply back on the experiment do you keep eyes open or do you keep them shut

  • open

  • it doesn't matter. they put the ping pong balls on so if you accidentally open them it stays dark

  • on experiment two, he had his eyes shut. i think the idea is to keep them open though.

  • the whole point is too block visual and auditory signals to your brain. it's like tuning out a room full of talking people. after awhile your brain tunes out the red light and static and amplifies the senses to try and find something distinguished, which is when you hallucinate things you wouldn't normally see.

  • Why is it so dark and red?

When I did this I say Giygas! D:>

  • HAHA!

Apparently it's more effective if you have a red light shining on the ping pong balls.

  • in the ganzfeld experiment you have to look with you pingpong eyes ;P in red light

  • 1:20 lol thats cus i just came

  • Oh my God! I used to do this when I was a preschooler. Except I just pressed my eyelids tightly.....probably why I need glasses now. Ha!

  • That's...not even close to what this is.

  • Don't act like it's the same thing. This is nothing like pressing on your eyes. It's about blocking sensory perception. You brain replaces the things you can't sense.

  • Why not just use a blindfold?

  • You can't use a blindfold because you have to let some light go through and when you have a blindfold over your eyes, they tend to close. Your eyes have to be open for it to really take effect.

What the person described seeing is about what I saw. A lot of colors that kind of close in on themselves. Your eyes tend to feel like they're closed, but they aren't, which is really unsettling sometimes.

  • Not at the same time, some months ago I saw an episode using the experiment. and I wanted to see what it was about, my dad actually mentioned it made you see ghosts......I'm more of the skeptic, my dads and old hippy into paranormal stuff. While it does look like an interesting device studies have shown that all it is a sensory deprivation machine, that stimulates your brain to sometimes hear and see auditory and visual hallucinations. I'm still gonna make my own! :)

  • you don't see ghosts, because you've depraved your mind of the main senses, it blocks out the noise and light, and creates its own sounds and sights for you so to not send you mad. Ironically, it's a form of slight insanity. Think about it, you're forcing your mind to create its own reality, a fucking weird one at that, i'd say its insane. Oh and you feel completely high aswell

  • Very cool, nice real look into the ganzfeld experiment. Thanks for the video, I wonder if anyones ever thought of making the ping pongs cover the whole eye by modifying it a bit, might help keep people less distracted from any peripheral disturbance. :)

  • were you watching paranormal state while searching for this!!!???

    me too!

  • Yes.. Lol :p
