As a rule, I hate circuses like this that raise one man (even a president) above everyone else. But this was a VERY dignified ceremony. It does strike me that it was held so far away from ordinary people. I think that is representative of Russia....
However, better this system than the one they had 20 years ago (or the one before that!). Here's hoping that Russia develops strong democratic ideals.

Obama's inauguration was expensive for the American taxpayer at 180 million, and it sucked. It went on in the midst of an economic crisis, which is way too much money in my view. Medvedev's inaugration was traditional, humble, grand, and not as costly for Russians. His is far superior to Obama's in my view.

Not every country's presidential inaugurations has to be as expensive and ostentatious as those of the Americans. If they want to be a bit more subdued, then that is their choice. Furthermore, Medvedev was inaugurated several months before Obama took office, so it's not really a fair comparison when you look at it that way.
