@catawba909 I built a house that had a hidden door in the library that simply led into another room--it wasn't a hidden room or anything. Sometimes it's done just so you don't have waisted space of a door.
nice door but everyone is right about seeing the lines. i did too. easy fix, hang a picture there just below the seam and the top of the frame will hide the seam, u must hang the picture frame on the door not the stationary part.
Some decent miter cutes in the molding would have hidden the seams much better, but since I've never built anything close to that nice I really shouldn't criticize. It's a sweet Bookcase/hidden door
@myalphawolf Hmm let me see, if you didn't know there was a hidden door here would you walk in and be like "do you think that is hid(d)en, i see where is the door" btw way to show us all great english!
@ThreeEyedTeddyBear Yeah I have to agree it seems the weight of the books have moved it off plum.
But the problem with a secret door is that it cant look like a door. Design wise the fact that it is a door becomes obvious due to the crack around the entire perimeter. Most secret doors hide this gap with trim work and inward opening.
I would say its beautiful shelving and i'm not sure how trim could have been utilized in that particular design either.
I don't think it's the books weight... I could be wrong but it seems there are showing lines not just at the border where it opens but along the other side of that board. Trim is usually put all along but since that is such a tall design I can see where it's be better to go shorter and have less weight on it.
I think if the trim used at the top was used along the two boards making the door and above it it would be less noticeable with a pattern there to look at instead

Epic Fail! Seam stands out from a mile a way and draws your eye right to it, then throws up red flags, then screams door!

it will be better if the door height is same as the bookshelf height to minimize the visible line
between the two

Very nice wood work. I was hoping for how it was made though.

Eh..... decent but there is a small gap where you can see it opens.... Symmetry would make it a lot better
