Personally, I'm really excited for this game. I'm a hardcore (kinda) classic Sonic game, and I'm always eager for a new one to come out. Also, I'm only 15, so I wasn't born when the 2D games were at their peak, but after playing the old and new ones, I've decided I like the old ones more.

I'm not bashing your opinion, OP. I am just exclaiming that I'm really excited for the new release, and I think Sega is going in the right direction for future Sonic games. ^_^

By reminding people to keep lower expectations, they won't be dissapointed like when some of the other games in the series came out.

I think you bring up an excellent point here: do people want Sonic (or all video games, for that matter) to stick more to their roots, or to try and build something new? I'm personally of the belief that gamers want both. We yearn for the nostalgia and satisfaction that the old game formulas brought us, but we also want to experience something exciting and fresh. Hopefully this will be a game we can all enjoy: old fashioned Sonic action with a twist.

If you never played the original sonic games when they came out (which by the sounds of it, you haven't) it's a given that you're not going to give 2 shits about this game. Yeah, they tend to crap another Sonic game out every year or year and a half, sometimes a couple Sonic games at a time (Unleashed Wii, Unleashed 360, and Sonic and the Black Knight all withint 3 months of each other). Take your time to make the game well. That's what Nintendo does (although they often delay things for a very long time, at least the finished product is great).

Few people contest the fact that the classic Sonic titles on the Genesis were great. Many people hate the 3D Sonic games, or at least say that the 3D ones are far inferior and have been steadily getting worse. Every 3D Sonic game has incorporated pointless gimmicks that have strayed away from Sonic's roots (i.e. fishing, shooters, brawlers, treasure hunting, guns, etc). You want long, dull, and predictable, play Sonic Heroes. You want bugs, every 3D Sonic game has a lot, even Adventure 1 and 2.

I disagree. I found many bugs in the gameplay in both Adventures, from camera spasms, to unresponsive special moves (especially the lightspeed dash), and more. I never found any bugs that bad in the Genesis titles.

Tails and Knuckles in the Genesis games were not gimmicks. They both played almost exactly like Sonic--speed and platforming--with a little less speed and a couple more moves for more exploration. Core Sonic gameplay stayed the same unlike, say, the werehog and Silver the Hedgehog
