Yes, he has gotten more cynical - because he's so frustrated at the core problem - Americans failing in their responsiblities as citizens. The solution, as Friedman says, already exists - a tax on carbon - but it lacks widespread support.
Most citizens in this country seemingly aren't interested in learning about the specific details of our changing economy and world. We need to initiate change. Americans need to watch these thought provoking, analytical programs, and read thought provoking books like "Hot, Flat and Crowded." If our citizens take the time to learn about or economic and environmental problems, perhaps such knowledge will lead to a heightened concern and thus help initiate necessary change.
Too many dumb people in US, Middle East and everywhere are definitely a problem. I wonder if all the people with IQ's under say, 125 were "removed" from the world, would it become a better place? My brain screams yes, but I can't help but think that the hyper-ambitious are over-represented among the very-intelligent. They'll probably start killing each other off, trying to get to/stay at the top, and instead of dealing with dumb aggressive people we'll have smart aggressive people, even worse.
So, your IQ is under 124? Dumb people are necessarily bad people? I say focus on removing corrupt leaders in places like Cameroon, Guinea, Burma, Afghanistan, Niger, Congo, Pakistan (we help Pakistan & they hate us for it) & many others, at least 25. We need to take most of our lessons from FINLAND, DENMARK, SWEDEN. The least corrupt nations of all. I say fuck the United Nations as far as some of their international laws we have agreed to. We could avoid most wars by taking out corrupt leaders.
When you say about Pakistan, who's the "they", it's the people. The government there is more pro-Western than its public. Hard to deal with dogmatically backward people in a rational manner. When I say backward people it's not some racial/cultural superiority feeling... well it is, but I lump Western culture in with those backward cultures as well. To me, Finland, Denmark and Sweden represent not Western culture but modern culture. The USA, Ireland, Poland, those are Western and traditional.
@iCommentatez I told a friend about my concept for a 'smart bomb' that kills everyone with an IQ below 100, and all the rest who are a-holes. He replied that I should be careful because I might be in those groups.
wow what a dumbass, he thinks tax is going to help?
The monetary system in america that being the fractional reserve banking practices that is followed, is literally mathematically designed so that it is INEVITABLE that it MUST fail!! The system is designed to fail, famine is comming. If these people cared they would tell us to start growing gardens. The government is completely looking the other way, and money is not the answer.. It is love.
i like him he makes sense.. but i dont think he understands how corrupt the government is, and that the people are not in the governments interest. Americans just eat fast food and contribute to their own domestication. Its everyones fault.
The world is flat.. what a fucking dickhead.

Paraphrasing Atrios today: "Hey Little Tommy Friedman, the bombing-plagued Iraqis are still 'sucking on it' ".
Friedman's another one whose words are hard to make out for all the blood dripping from his rightwing millionaire teeth.
