Great to see a video of the Colorliner. Goss presses are built to last and the Colorliner is no exception. There are many new and old Goss Colorliners in production today. The latest US installation was at the New York Times. It's a very impressive installation.
same thing we run here in philly pretty much only we have 9 presses, 10 units each and the company took the cheap way out and only put in 1 folder and 1 4x4 and 2 2x4's, we upgraded a few presses to run the ny times and wall street journal.. journal press has 6 4x4 towers and the times has 3 4x4 and the other 2 2x4's. i havent seen a pressroom on here as big as ours yet . this one is close though
Oh yea and Man Rolands are the shizz from what I've seen. They did a piece on Man Rolands on Modern Marvels. Being able to set a penny edgewise on the frame of a press running full steam w/o it falling over and all.
I ran a colorliner for 5 years till I got laid off this year. Sometimes I miss it, sometimes I don't, and the poor piss management there is also running the presses to the ground without proper repairs, I sure don't miss them. More layoffs are coming in Sept. Is your company cutting the meat while the FAT still hangs on at the top too?
Well my friend, our presses are experiencing many problems especially after cutting down the newspaper to 48 inches. To save money we are using the same ink rails for a 50 inch newspaper, needless to say ink is spraying at the edges of the printing cylinders throughout the pressroom. Many web breaks occur as a direct result of ink gobs. Rumors have additional layoffs in our future, lets hope they are but rumors.
We went to 48 inches and cut down the ink rails and VSI rollers. It helped out a lot now we are toying around with going to 44 inches. Can you say deja vu all over again? We still get some ink gob breaks from the red and black ink levels.
New ink rails with dams are currently being installed, which is preventing the ink spillage from the magenta (red) and black couples. WOW, 44 inches, will this be the new trend?
Our pressroom is in a mess, like so many others. With advertising disappearing at a rapid rate, care of the presses is no longer done on a regular basis. It'
s basically, repair as they breakdown, very poor way to run a newspaper.

Not at all. The Colerliners are now twenty years old with over 1 billion copies produced from each of our six presses.

We have installed Man-Rolands in place of our unit twelve, and they reproduce some very fine images.

Yeah, that equipment from the closed plant is sitting in a warehouse in Rialto. Strange presses you guys have; the "Retroliner".

We also have two printing presses in storage at our facility. With the addition of the Man-Rowland units our presses are now a bit different.

Which LAT plant is this? My company did work for all of them, including designing a method of stacking 4 C/L mono units to form a 4-color tower.

This is the Olympic Plant, on 8th and Alameda, Los Angeles. We closed the Chatsworth Plant in 2006, only two plants now. Ed
