Wonderful to see a comment from a 20 year old appreciating the wonderful Faron Young. I am 58, and even I am too young to have appreciated him when he was around, but I can tell you, I appreciate him now.
I have heard many stories about Faron. My best friend was a very good friend of his. He did have his days. I think he was happiest on stage playing to an audience. She was with him every so often when he traveled and he had depression. Too bad he didn't get help for it.
I wish he'd have remembered and used the 2nd B part:" 1 minute I'm all set to go and then I change my mind such a difference between leaving you and leaving you behind ..." that chorus does not deserve to be forgotten like it has been.
As to George v. Faron, I think George was a better singer, but Faron was a better performer, a better entertainer, and got more out of the band.
@SteelguitarLane you "HIT" it right , now some body knows what there talking about, i have always thought the same way about the two great performers, love them both, miss Faron Young, what a great personalty

I've played this song in clubs hundreds of times. It packs the dance floor every single time. Country music just doesn't get better than this. Thanks for posting.
I am in love with this guy...as good as Sinatra in every way...voice ...presence....no one beats him...wish he had recorded an American standard song book album like Willie Nelson...would love to hear him sing songs like One For My Baby/Someone To Watch Over Me/ The Second Time Around/ But Not for Me /Stars Fell On Alabama. Anyone know if he ever did cross over songs ?
im pretty sure the necktie he is wearing is one i bought on ebay sevral years ago at least its the same color same wideness ,.,it has his intials f.y. embroidered on the end /bought it and a certificate to faron booth on ebay ,,wehn i bought it i was hoping i could wear the tie from time to time when i sing ,.but then i found it was just tooooo widee a tie !
wish i could know this was the tie for sure ,.,but it looks quite possible
This is my favorite Faron Young song--although choosing a favorite is difficult. Yes, that's Red Hayes. I told about his death in Faron's biography. I'm glad to hear some of you caught our Deputy reunion on the Midnite Jamboree in 2007.
The last I knew Robyn had a bluegrass band called Nextakin with some of his Macon cousins. I don't think they travel much..just play mostly in and around Nashville. Although he has a very nice voice, to me, he doesn't really sound that much like Faron. He does pronounce some of his words the same though.
Yea i heard him sing a little at a Faron tribute with Darrell McCall about a year ago ( I think it was on the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree website ) and his voice isn't nearly as good as it was in the late 80's.
Mr. Personality here - and lots of it. I love Faron dearly. We met hm here in Lexington back in the late 70's and he put on a terrific show. Lots of jokes, great songs and gave each of his band members their own time to do their stuff. Faron could sing any song and make it enjoyable. A wonderful entertainer and he always looked so classy and professional. Thank you for posting - Paula
Heard "Occasional Wife" on XM for first time last week-searched and it is hard to find. then your rendition popped up on You Tube. Whoa! Ordered diane's book last week. I agree 'bout Step Aside but Face to the Wall could be a close second. How about your doing that one and posting? Great job!
please, anyone that loves country music should take the time to listen to more of Faron's recordings. He had one of the greatest voices even upto the time of his death which was a huge shock to all his fans.
(he took his own life). We saw Faron preform several times (he did like to party) but it did not affect his singing and putting on a great show.
If memory serves me correctly, this song was written by Ray Griff who had a short but mildly successful singing career in Country in the mid 70s. (You Ring My Bell) ??
Great song, but wow, the steeler was really overplaying his part... Nothing at all like the original recording with Lloyd Green steeling for Faron in the studio.

His son Robyn does sing. I saw him once on TNN back in the probably the late 80's. He was good then. Sounded alot like Faron.
