@sum1otosh1 i must admit you have right. When I checked Otoshi My directory says Sumiotoshi "cornerdrop", but for Sumiotoshi it answer fourdirection throw. Its realy Hardy to see the knife in my Iphone but okey I see it. So I have to take a step bak and bow :)
By The way, I think this i Judo, not Aikido, wrong color at their cloths and their movement dont fit in into the art of Aikido, they move in Judo maner.
@dorhtag shi-ho-nage is the four direction throw. Regardless of what part of the arm you use.
Sumiotoshi is a corner drop.
It's not judo, gi colour is irrelevant, the attacker is using a tanto, not done in judo, movement is similar because in both judo and aikido unsoku is the method of moving in and out of posture.
To the guy who said this was hardly sumiotoshi ..... sumiotoshi means corner drop, he dropped him to the corner .... what fucking more do you want?
To say it's not aikido ..... check it out in slow mo ...... try doing the same technique using strength and drag .... it doesn't work. You have to have the elements of aikido in place for sumiotoshi to work otherwise uke just steps out of it.
I like Tomiki Aikido, IMO it's the only good one out there. Par-chance have you or they ever competed in Judo Randori? I wonder how they do (Since Judo has similar rules but a lot more people thus more types of bodies and skills to fight)
never been part of aikido???? how many people had broken bones when aikido came to the UK - it was normal, only relatively recently has it become a compliant and gentle discipline, and even then not in every dojo. Search for interviews with pat hendrix and see what she says.
Wow that looks like a fantastic technique. I can't wait to start learning it!

"it's the only good one out there"
It may be for you. To each their own.

Considering it's the only one known for its hard sparring and randori (shown here) I'd say it is no matter what others may think.

As far as I am aware all styles of Aikido have randori. Tomiki is the only one to have sport competitions.

but hard sparring has never been a part of aikido aikido was never about competition or streangth over the other.
It is rather a unique style of martial art but i would not call this activity for aikido so much.
