You can go to home depot and get floor flanges and a pipe, but I wouldn't recommend it. The price of a REAL pole isn't too bad, and it's worth it.

Congratulations on the job! You took a big leap of faith travelling across the country to start off fresh. I really admire that. I have spent a lifetime as a very risk averse person--I can't even imagine what that would be like! I would probably freak out! I've had the same job 25 years and live 2 miles fron where I grew up!!
