This woman is one of the MOST professional news anchors EVER! She's tough, and takes no bull, but EXCELLENT at her job!

She was a seasoned pro, and her determination to succeed made her hard to work with. Biographies (books we once read to learn from) had her also as high strung with emotional problems. Accident was a friend mistaking restaurant parking lot entry and pulling too far, into canal.  A sad loss from drowning, including her dog in the back seat. Some folks are just trolls, learn the truth people.

She was definitely skilled though. Look at the video in which she gets angry. You can see why they pay her a lot. She reads the teleprompter perfectly and fast. That's not a talent u find just anywhere.

She was a nice person who had alot of heartache in her short life. I hope she is resting in peace. NO one deserves to have such a terrible death--my heart broke when I learned of it and can remember where I was driving when it came over the radio. Regardless of the much publicized "slurred" delivery of that news piece, she was a consummate professional and was bright, eager and accomplished--a self made woman- a woman who had alot of jealousy surrounding her. I was a true fan of Jessica's.

@Lorsonline I agree....and she found her husband hanging, dead in her basement, then suffered a miscarriage. I mean, the poor lady's life was an experiment in terror. Her delivery of the news was impeccable, yet morons want to pounce on that one, singular incident and act as if it were a regular occurence. People make me sick, such hypocrites!

@Tones4me1 She and a friend were driving after dinner during a storm. He thought he was turning onto a side road, and because it was so rainy, he didn't realize it was a canal. The car became submerged in the muddy canal, and I think she died of asphyxiation.

Does anybody know if Jessica was disciplined by the network after this performance? In the world of network news, Savitch was a star. The camera just loved her. That smile lit up a room. Sadly, her private life and death were tragic. RIP, Jessica.

@ForeverYoung58 She also looked older than her reported 36 years at the time. (As far as I'm concerned, she looked like she was in her 40s or early 50s here.) Perhaps it was her private drug use, her failed marriages, NBC's misuse of her talents, and the early death of a parent that really led Jessica Savitch to her early grave.

To the oster who said she was a "terrible person". Television chewed this woman up and spit her out. In the end, her only peace was found in the grave. Her on-air work was an inspiration; her private life is a cautionary tale.

@NewsLynne I agree with you. I was about 16 when she died and didn't know her. The first time that I had even heard about her was when she died and the National "Inquistion" news rag wrote a whole page written about what a piece of shit that they thought that she was.

My problem with them is that they never let anyone tell their side. And when they did, they changed it to fit their purposes.

Her private life was her business. Her job professionalism was the only thing that she owed the fans

they said her autopsy report showed no sign of drugs and she had only finished a half glass of wine at dinner that night. her date Marvin Fishbein was driving the car that night when it went off the embankment due to poorly lit area and a dangerous area to begin with--the accident did not involve jessica and drugs or alcohol.

Her car went off an unsafe embankment behind a restaurant in Bucks County, PA. She and the friend with her ended up in the canal and died from drowning in mud, basically. Horrible.
