  • Thank you so much for speaking about why it is necessary that we build our vocabulary! Not just for the SAT and for the GRE, but speaking better makes people feel great! At Brainscape, we help people learn many different things such as vocabulary for the GRE using online flash cards. Check us out when you have time!

  • I am 28 now and I am giving my SAT exams in 6 months. My vocabulary sucks a big time and I am too lazy to follow his guidelines as I never use English in writing or speaking in daily life. Now I am reading this Bernstein Book and I am about to finish it and I will burn this book after I am finished or I will just give it to the local library.

  • dammmnnn

  • can i get into college with a 3.0-3.1 gpa and not a community college? and sat score 1450

  • This guy offers a wealth of practicable insight. Don't let his hairdo cause you to dismiss him as a kook or pedophile; he really has some valuable advice.

  • gr8 little vid and story

  • lol. if u were able to get into Princeton that means ur level of "vocab" is high like shit in the first place... sounds sarcasm

  • I'm a senior in high school about to take the SAT. Like you, I'm more focused on math and science but my vocab has always been my weakness. I am just starting to memorize more words, and I actually find it fun. As you said in your earlier videos, I usually refused to look up unknown words in my reading, but now do it more often. Thanks for your videos!

  • thanks for advice i appreciate

  • u look like lionel messi....great story

  • WE LOVE YOU CARL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks so much!!

  • awesome can u spell out the words u mentioned

  • wow Karl, i can't believe it!

I live in Germany and we don't speak english anywhere! I was brought up in germany, speaking both german and english, but not anymore. I also used/use the excuse that I'm not speaking english regularly and this is why I will probably fail my SAT.

ANd now i actually realized that I should stop looking for excuses and sit down and start!!

Seriously, I wouldn't do this if I hadn't seen how you turned out after you also didn't really speak english at home!!

  • Inspirational!

  • ive lived in Scotland and Canada, and the vocabulary in the UK is waaay better

  • thanks a lot !!

this video really motivated me !

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you for the great video :) I myself also kept telling myself that my English vocabulary isn't as good (while my friends tell me that it's FINE) because I was brought up in a Japanese society (though I'm American-Korean)... but really, it was just my laziness that got in the way of my not-so-bright vocabulary.

Like many many others have said... you ARE inspirational!

  • He looks like Tiesto.

  • Thank you SO MUCH. I'm just taking a break from my SAT prep, and I've got like a million words to memorize...I was just getting tired of memorizing a list and then forgetting half of it two days later...but after watching this I'm going to put all my spare time in memorizing! I don't have 8 months but I'll put everything I've got into that SAT vocab book...!!! Thanks again!!! ^^~~

  • A magnificent video, I find myself in many of your examples and I think that when one relates to their subject matter, they get inspired and not drown in hopelessness. I do however wonder if you memorize them by definition only or also by spelling since my spelling is truly horrible. Thank you and i hope to see more of your videos.

  • You're so inspirational and motivating.

  • nice vidio

  • I don't need motivation to expand my vocabulary, I need to develope my memorizing skills. I've actually been making lists of new words long before I veiwed this video, but each time I review them they seem surprisingly new again, only faint hints of their meaning. Thanks for the advice, but the people who need it most probably won't ever see these videos...

  • wow, your personal story REALLY hit home. I too don't come from an affluent family, didn't speak english at home, I too come from a German family. I too have used the excuse of my background to pardon my low vocabulary, struggled with the SAT, got into College. Now...I'm about to face The dreaded GRE. Your story has motivated me to do something about my vocabulary. THNX

  • thanks

  • With all the talking in 4 segments, you gave nothing about HOW to learn vocabulary.

  • uhhh, he said you look up the vocab definition while reading, and memorize the word....

  • @Jibbie49 you look at them over n over frequently. or write repetitively depending on which type you suit better. obviously.

  • Thank you. I actually listen to this guy rather than teachers in class who act like they hate their job. You actually have a story and went to Princton so i'm actaully motivated to learn words even if it wasn't for the SAT.

  • Thanks. These videos actually helped.
