That's like my puppy kenji he loves cats. Where ever we go and he sees a cat he tries to go by them. He doesn't even hurt him just wants to lick him. It is the exact same with stuff animals :))
I have a Shiba Inu, had a Samoyed before him. When I was a kid we had a Samoyed & later a Keeshond.
I love the Spitz breed dogs & would like to have an Akita Inu (not the poorly bred American version) later. But hopefully it will be many years before I'm looking for another dog.
Man if my dog ever did that to my cat I bet she'd hit my dog on the nose hiss at him and maybe run away or stand her ground and hiss at him. But then again my dog is a golden retriever and I don't think my cat would ever want to be licked by him.
@MUSIC200756 I don't think it's strange. My Akita likes cats, but not all cats. He likes people, but not all people. And he likes other dogs, just not (most of) all other dogs. He's almost human ;-)
@BarbaTubeIt heh yeah mine too... exactly he likes my cat but really wants to rip the head of my friend's cat :P haha he likes some of my friends but when some other friends come home he's going all teeth... letting my brother's in law dog to eat from his food but he attacks some other dogs just when he spies them .. dunno what's happening... he's crazy :P
@Cherry13Boom Nah, he's just a dog. That's how they're wired. It's just they're living with people and pets instead of a bunch of other wolves, so the attachments transfer. He considers certain people and animals to be members of his pack, that's all.
Its kinda strange that a Akita Inu Likes Cats but hates other Dogs or Mostly Attack Them Akita Inu are the most Amzing Breed ive ever seen i just Love Them i hope to have Akita Inu to someday. And i will call him matsumoto or Takashi
people ask for the price, because they are rare and expensive. you guys shouldnt be so mean about the answer. my mother wants one of these so bad because it is the same dog her grandfather had back in japan, but the price keeps her from getting one, so i feel very sad for her. an actual akita-inu only has a few breeders in the u.s. and can run 1500USD+ for the price of the dog alone.
awwe your dog is soo adorable i dont if you the movie called hatchi but it is a very good movie about a dog named hatchi and your akita looks exactly like your dog (: i wish i can have an akita but my parents say not cause there to much /:
@heilong79 Yes, I know! It's like asking parents how much it cost to "get the child". It didn't cost them anything - and the costs don't have any correlation with the value.
Akita's are absolutely stunning, I love them so much. I want one really bad. Hoping that I can get a new friend by summer but not sure if that's ever going to happen this year, moving once more so a lot of my savings are going towards my new place. -sigh-
How was it when you first got him? Was there any difficulties when training him? I'd like to know for future reference, I know this breed can be stubborn (apparently?).
@Cobycane u sound like a soft peron why don get nice gentle dog instead of a beast that need loads of work to tame and u probably need to cut its ball of and brak the sprit to control it
@zafeamoon I'm just a dog lover really and I get excited sometimes. I can't see myself with a pomeranian, chihauhau or a small breed. I've always grown up around Huskies, German Shepards, my brothers Bullmastiff and mutts. I like to believe I have a lot of experience with dogs.
@BarbaTubeIt That type of purring from a short haired cat means it was in extasy (happiness not drug). The cat loves the dog, at least when it is getting cleaned.
yeah i know i have 2 dogs now , i found them on the street . Now they are >12 years old , just asked how much akita was for my future plans cause they are so adorable dogs . dont know what u meant by expenses .. if u meant casual expenses like feeding that is not a problem , but i think that they are hard to keep pets ? dont know just i want to gather some info can i have him or not ty
@Sylar899 It's just that whenever someone asks me about the price it's just that I think that the most irrelevant factor to take into account when making a decision to go and live with an Akita. Akita's are not just the average dog. I've been socializing my Akita and the breeder paid attention to this as well. So he's been around people and all kinds of animals. We've been in training, took private lessons as well, so now he can run loose. He's social and well behaved.. but it takes time.
@BarbaTubeIt This is true. I currently have an akita named Lexi, and before her I owned an akita named Kit. This breed takes a bit of work and is not for an unexperienced dog owner. They require lots of training and exercise, and they can be stubborn at times (it's part of their independent willed nature). But they can make the best companions and family dogs if socialized properly... BUT socialization IS key here! Not with just humans and other dogs, but small animals, like cats, too.
@GamertownUSA Akita Kensho was 7 weeks old when he arrived in his new home. The cat was about 12 years at that time. She had to learn not to run past him (which triggers his hunting reflexes) and it took a while before she knew 'hey, if I walk by in a normal pace he doesn't chase me'. After about 3 months a ray of sunlight became the peacemaker. It was a small beam of warm sunlight, the first that year and they both wanted a piece - so they had to be close together.
Lol. My Akita's do exactly the same to our two cats and the cats just sit there and purr also. Even funnier is that the cats have now started grooming the Akita's! Takes them forever just to do the tiniest little portion of fur! :)
@Heyman730 O yes! The Akita is a (very) heavy shedder. About twice a year he changes his coat. When the (grey) undercoat is lost, you could fill up many many pillows or knit many sweaters.
@hearthermc79 I live in the Netherlands and by official standards here we have a breed called Shiba Inu which is a small dog, we have an Akita (which comes in three colors: white, brindle and like my dog Kensho) and the American Akita which comes in all different colors, has a black mask and is more muscular. The American Akita was called Great Japanese Dog before. And the Akita was called Akita Inu before. Different countries, different names, same dogs.
N'aww that's cute! I used to have an Japanese Akita called Sensei. And he used to do this with my little King Charles Spaniel. He also used to "talk" to us when he wanted something haha. It's by far one of the best breeds of dog I have ever had the pleasure of owning.
@lauraann912: love has to come from both sides... my akita is very fond of my cat as you can see, and my cat usually just ignores him or will seek his attention. She doesn't swat that often (as the one time at the end of this video) and when she does they both understand. So you have to socialize and educate BOTH animals to get this kind of understanding... believe me it took quite some months of work.
With lots of socialization with cats as a puppy an Akita will do just fine around them. It's all about introducing the dog early on. Every dog should be socialized as a puppy with other animals, and people (chilren and adults). Otherwise any breed is likely to act aggressive or nervous/scared around those things.

But one day the cat swatted her and the Akita decided she'd had enough. Broke the cat's jaw but never actually bit down on her, thankfully. Never trust an Akita won't one day say "ENOUGH!" to something tolerated even for years.
That's like my puppy kenji he loves cats. Where ever we go and he sees a cat he tries to go by them. He doesn't even hurt him just wants to lick him. It is the exact same with stuff animals :))
