Whats up with the girl in this. Is she on ludes? I would of been a crying, screaming mess if he took me on stage. She's acting like she doesn't wanna even be there.
@Haywood67 you don't know what gay is? come on mate --- comments like that run the risk of all the rest of us referring to you as " Gaywood67..." you don't want that do you?
@pagandude1 if OConail77 is saying that Bono is gay, as in homosexual, then I would ask for some verification. Given the man has been married to the same woman for a numbr of years and has had no reports of ever havng homosexual relations, then i think referring to him as gay just because you are envious or him would be a reflection of one's own tendencies. I have been married for 18 years. you calling me gay would be like me calling you simple-minded.
@Haywood67 you know your totally right i concur with you on that for sure --- i had the good fortune to see U2 in my home country New Zealand when they brought BB King over for their "When love comes to town" tour ---it was a fantastic evening i can tell ya...
U2 goes beyond words, U2 doesn't belong in today's fucked up world, people are dumbed down, i think they never heard much listened to anything like this kind of people.................Larry said it, it's his band, really Larry mullen senior, his dad, suggested that Larry take up some drums at school he did just that, so in a way Larry's dad started the band :) I just absolutely love the way they did the the bono swinging that girl around, and in slow motion, and she was a fairly large gal
@jsrochapoa Yes my friend, we were young, beautiful and happy, I hope that today also feel most of us.Also,I want to say thanks to the wonderful website -YouTube- that allow us to travel back through time and see these wonderful rock concerts, also our children can see how it was during the time of uncle, aunt, mommy aand daddy, many greetings from Macedonia
I move to Atlanta, Ga. as a teenager (To attend the Art Institute of Atlanta.) The only thing I had in my possesion was 150 bucks and my U2 Albums (Yes at that time they were called albums.) The band U2 will alway hold a special place in my heart, I can remember some very lean years when all I had was Ramen noodles, Live at Red Rock, October, Boy, The unforgettable fire and The Joshua Tree...
The young woman dancing with him is not Terri Nunn. (Nunn is taller than Bono.) The girl in question was a friend who opted after the final cut to be left nameless. I think it was a wise decision given how obsessive some fans can be. No doubt they'd want a piece of her mailbox or would have stolen her cat simply because she danced with Bono.
The Edge's solo at 2:40 is simply fantastic, full with energy, alive and kickin, the Edge knows how to fire wonderful music burst to the ears of a hungry audience for good music!
@ssdivizion .......funny, I was just about to mention the exact same thing. I was thinking that even someone like Beethoven would understand it and relish it for the complexity and raw energy.
How much do these guys love playing music? Look no further than Adam Clayton going back and making eye contact with Larry Mullen Jr at 0:59. Coolness!
if anyone needs to know how kick ass and awe-spiring music of the 80's was (is), look no futher than U2 live at Red Rocks.......awesome. Todays music is so bad, un origional....boy band crap....gansta rap shit....makes me puke
that band change my life ever...i cant live whithout listening u2...but i miss this times when u2 are a simply band....but we love u2 always....best band on world...u2 portugal
I'm a teenager but i've loved them all of my life because my dad is a huge fan. i was lucky enough to see them on their vertigo tour in 2005 and i can tell you that God is in the room at their concerts and i'm sure that everybody at red rocks felt him there that night!
@someblokecalledchris That girl Bono dances with looks like a 22-year-old Terri Nunn from the group "Berlin" [No More Words; You Take My Breath Away; Metro]. In the '80's, she was dating the (late) lead singer from INXS, who was good friends with Bono. Also, Berlin and U2 had done some gigs together in those days, so Bono most likely knew her. I simply "wikipoo'd" all this trivia -- so don't quote me.
The under a blood red sky album version is awesome - worn it out....Edge would have to screech it and U2 would have to play it with the passion Bono had in the early days to give it justice...otherwise it would be a dissapointment.....maybe somethings are better left in the past...........just a thought.....
This was the only U2 concert I have ever been at, it was a privilege and I do not regret it, as cold and dampy as it was. I was 20 back then. I still enjoy the simplicity of the band back then.
I think the weather added to this..the wet guitar and all.. If a guitar could be played by the Edge in a flame suit until it melted, it would sound like this solo..
The live version is much better than the record version, very different with more emotion in the song. Such a huge sound from a single guitarist, amazing.
U notice very well my friend, especially the Edge's solo from 2:39 is simply awesome! Also,Bono here reached the peak of its performance! Great times, mood and atmosphere! Bye from Macedonia
I agree... this is such an awesome song... i saw them play back about 79-80 in McGonacles bar in Dublin with a band called the Virgin Prunes and then they released this as one of their first singles... great craic
@1963stratman You do know that Edge's brother started that band when they edged him out of U2. Would have LOVED to have seen what you did! Unforgettable!
@blue489, 80s' style video aesthetics. Less rapid cuts, more static cameras and uses of dissolve,slo-mo, etc. The MTV aesthetic didn't take hold until a few years later.
Saw U2 during the 2nd leg of their first USA tour on March 20, 1981 at the Old Waldorf. It was the 2nd of 2 concerts in San Francisco and the 483 person theatre was not sold out on either night. LOL - Their "tour bus" was a beat up old Greyhound bus...they were still an unknown group outside of the UK. They had so few songs that they repeated "11 O'Clock Tick Tock", "I Will Follow", "I Fall Down" in the encore. I told my GF "These guys will be a famous live band because of their stage presence".
@DonGomez007 Like you , I saw them at the small show at the aragon ballroom in Chicago and got the empty champange bottle at the end. 2 years later they packed the Rosemont arena. And then it went off the charts beyond my taste and interest...
My Brother use to listen too this in the 80's when i was a kid and i know alot of people think Bono's a cunt now but this band at this point put me on the track to lisening to good music and i'll always appreciate that no matter what shite they write nowerdays.MOLE DIGGIN IN A HOLE . know what i mean.

of course one of their best songs ever they refuse to play now. Instead they play that new garbage like Boots Elevation, Beautiful Day, Complete crap compared to this music
@kellykinsellives its the same with most bands though, your forgetting thy've been playing this song how long? they wanna play new stuff.. its understandable xD and i like new stuff anyway so cant complain
@kellykinsellives cant remeber which live show it is, think its U2 go home, where he says our fave parts of the past we take with us to the future.. so thats wyh :P
@kellykinsellives sorry have disagree with you about beautiful day its a great live tune ! but do agree with you that this should be on the 360 tour its one of my fav u2 songs and ive seen them play live 14 times now and have only heard them play this a few times ! please bring it back
i remember when this first went out on the tube, a tv show in england, the tube filmed it, i remember seeing u2 at brighton top rank back in the early 80s on the october tour with the comsat angels as support, i went in with a stinking cold sweat so much that when i came out me cold had gone, a great night and a great band.
@72574 Terri Nunn are you serious?? please that chick was a whole lot better looking than Terri Nunn was....she was just a girl at a U2 concert and she happened to be a very good looking girl
@72574 Thank you for prompting me to do the necessary research (from your year-old comment, below) on finding out who that girl is...you provided me with her name (Terri Nunn) -- and it appears you were right.

i remember when this first went out on the tube, a tv show in england, the tube filmed it, i remember seeing u2 at brighton top rank back in the early 80s on the october tour with the comsat angels as support, i went in with a stinking cold sweat so much that when i came out me cold had gone, a great night and a great band.

I am guessing about the girl Bono dances with as well.
I really don't think anyone knows who she is.
I can only take a guess.
I would say it is a young Terri Nunn, the lead singer of the 80's band Berlin.
I think U2 and Berlin may have toured together at some point during the early days of their careers.
I really wish I knew this for sure.
The girl does resemble her though.
And it does seem as though Bono knew right where this girl was, as though he was searching for this dance.

@72574 Terri Nunn are you serious?? please that chick was a whole lot better looking than Terri Nunn was....she was just a girl at a U2 concert and she happened to be a very good looking girl

@wolfennyc
Yes, she was an extremely beautiful girl he danced with during this song.
Perhaps you are right.
She was definitely in the right place at the right time.
This will go down as one of the greatest mysteries of the 1980's =)
Only she knows for sure.
Thanks.

@72574 Thank you for prompting me to do the necessary research (from your year-old comment, below) on finding out who that girl is...you provided me with her name (Terri Nunn) -- and it appears you were right.
