Terence is great but all those Doits (is that what they are?) are very superfluous...they detract from his ideas in my humble opinion and make his voice sound corny and affected. He is amazing even with them...
Terence Blanchard is one of the sickest arrangers in modern jazz. He has a very fluent way of playing his solos amongst the musical conversation. His best albums has to be "BOUNCE" and "FLOW".
I think I was about 2 tables to the right at this gig. What a gig!! Terence and his band make some of my favorite music in the world. The post-Katrina material is fantastic.
Terence obviously has chops, but beyond that he has a combination of heart and intellect that totally capture me and this was a great gig.
High Class!

Great trumpet player and amazing writer but can't stand all those bends--monette guilty again.
jlevinson6 3 years ago
Man, those bends are really crisp and in tune. They're kind of his signature.
