  • What a Bitch.

  • Anita tries to screw the other girl then now Adrian, wow what an asshole !

  • Ahahaha!! Floppy discs!

  • Anita is a bitch

  • I find it very interesting that everyone is so obsessed over Anita. The software aspect is far more intriguing but all most of us can see is the world through the prism of our circumstance. So we can only look at the people and not the larger point the software makes about evolution.

  • A brilliant example. A pair that would manage to cooperate, will eventually be able to get 6 per iteration, while the other - 4-5. IRL the price of cooperation is even greater.

  • In this game, crime doesn't pay, all programmes are equal. That isn't the same in nature where some programmes are extroidinary and only expect the extroidinary from themselves, as healthy human beings should.

  • lol the funny thing is, tit for tat was my strategy! open with a C, if they do D, keep doing D, if they ever do C, do a C the next time...

  • She is such a fucking idiot, like i was actually enraged at how stupid she is/was shouting at my screen lol.. to me to solution couldnt be more obvious ... but i guess some people are either to sceptical or are just to dumb

  • There is a pretty obvious flaw in this experimental set-up. You can hear what the other person is writing because of the number of pen strokes.

  • @legshakermaker1968 It is part of it. The other can outsmart the other part if the part listens closely.

  • @legshakermaker1968 right. as a reviewer i would not recommend publication of this study in a journal :)

  • @legshakermaker1968 They're writing them at the same time.

  • so this is why i suck at spore. I wonder if Dawkins has ever played that.

  • Wow...Anita's strategy is strange indeed.

  • what do you expect from anita, she's indian

  • when they went c/d the next round should have been d/c then its would have gone c/c c/c c/c as they would be on the same page,, or so i would have thought.

  • when they went c/d the next round should have been d/c then its would have gone c/c c/c c/c as they would be on the same page,, so so i would have thought.

  • i like the fact that anita says she is taking the lead..lol

  • @mikey60264 how much do you like it?

  • Paper wastage.

  • oh, man, floppy disks! :)

  • If theres no real prize why would you ever be so selfish? I would of happily sat there and got the admiration of Dawkins for writing a C everytime. Anita would have 4 pound but she'd also be a cunt.

  • I know the optimal strategy for the game! First, find someone to play who you know will always cooperate (perhaps not so easy). Then you must also choose to cooperate, every time. At the end of the game, however much reward has been won, the TOTAL amount will always be more than if any defects had been played, because it's 6 rewards for a double cooperation and 5 for coop & a defect... Now (this is the best bit) you just steal all the reward for yourself and go have some fun spending it! Haha.

  • The markers in the study make the number of strokes audible and thus which letter apparent.

  • @88tongued I thought so too but its not like they could of changed there answer after drawing a curve or a line.

  • What a stupid fucking bitch. If he does C and she D, the next round should be the opposite both to communicate your willingness to cooperate, and to even out the previous unintended thievery. After both have taken the unfair advantage, the playing field is level and both have signaled their willingness to cooperate, and this is the only logical time to start continuously "c"ing.

  • @fuduzan5562

She's a girl, logic doesn't apply to her.

They're biologically prone to be a selfish, life-sucking succubus without regards to any others but herself.

  • anita is a paki wtf else do you expect from a paki?

  • My strategy for the game would have been simple and flawless - listen to the sound of the other person's pen and respond accordingly.

  • Anita is a bitch in deed!

  • I envy his wife, he's such an intelligent gentleman and quite good looking to boot.

  • Anita reminds me my ex-wife.

  • he should have picked M for make me a sandwich

  • 4:09 a woman take the lead? Ahahahahahahaha!

  • tz fuck you anita ;-)

  • THOSE PENS ARE SO LOUD. THEY'RE LIKE ALLCAPS EXCEPT LITTLE KIDS DON'T HUFF ALLCAPS.

  • @ 5:40 are those 2 apple c's????

  • Dumb bitch!

  • Just like a woman... you give two before I give one.

  • dawkins was quite cute hahaha

  • Anita is an idiot.

  • This proves women are evil!!!

  • Adrian did it wrong. He knows that D is the "safe" answer. If you want the other person to switch, you have to give them three Cs in a row after a D. One to say "I don't just pick D every time." One more to say "really, I'm trying to work with you here, this isn't a dumb trick." And a final one because you have to give them a chance to respond with C now that you've set up a pattern. Only giving one C and then backing away can sting the other person if they try to cooperate immediately.

  • @TheRichardHinckley Not according to the computer simulation where the "Tit for Tat" strategy came out on top by copying the other player's last move. Three C's in a row is going way overboard.

  • @imok4545 I understand how the program worked, but I'm talking about trying to communicate with another human being. Imagine a program called "Tat For Tit" that is exactly the same as Tit For Tat, but it starts with D instead of C. Faced with Tit For Tat, it would still do OK. They'd each get 5 points every 2 rounds (cheat followed by sucker, over and over). If one of them just put two Cs in a row, they'd each get 6 points every 2 rounds. The idea is to alter Anita's behavior with communication.

  • Anita played it smart!

  • 9:05

Friedman, the "interesting grudge program", is the worst of the nice programs.

  • These programs are awesome.

So glad to be a programmer now :D

  • Holy crap that computers old!

  • WHY Y NO PICK C?!?!

  • dem computars

  • She expected him to get screwed over twice before she would think about working together. Then she has the nerve to say she was the one to take the lead lol.

  • @septic55 This pissed me off about her, too!

  • @septic55 that's how women reason!

  • He shouldn't have stopped the game at that moment! He missed a great opportunity to observe what would have happend after Anita finally chose "C". At least Adrian admitted that he would have chosen "C" next to cooperate, but still poor showing from the teacher. I'm pretty sure Dawkins was like WTF at that moment.

  • Anita is smart; Adrian is dumb. Simple

  • @uriituw no, then you did not understand the point of this test and the whole documentary

  • This is a great series that explains business economy.

  • Anita isnt very intelligent

  • @phenomballer666 I agree, what she said didn't make sense.

  • I think women need more persuasion then men...

  • anita you are a twat!!

  • stop hating on anita. she's not a complete bitch. She's just "slow".

  • women.

  • Anita's offspring are going to destroy the planet. She's unapologetic and has no sense of justice. Burn her!

  • I'm roped into this tit for tat stuff. I'm clicking 5/5 ...now

  • I think Anita's a fucking bitch

    I must be a grudger

  • Anita's logic is very weird. If Adrian goes C and Anita goes D then she should pay back with C and Adrian takes 4 as he should go D. In next round they should both go for C and win together with equal score.

  • So basically the best strategy is to do C then D and then C again and the D again and so on....

  • ok maybe they should try a nice quiet pencil next time

  • I think this game shows how people end up being arseholes.

If you do something nice and you get taken advantage of - you'll become an arsehole.

Like driving in London - I'm normally a C in the rest of the country. But in London, you have to be a D - because they're wankers; all of them.

  • I wish he would of trashed talked her during the game. Mutter, "bitch" or something.

  • Isn't that experiment setup kind of flawed considering that while they are not supposed to communicate the pens make clearly audible sounds (e.g. one stroke for C, two for D)?

  • nah they dont pay enought attention maybe some do, but not all

  • Yes indeed, but that still doesn't make it a good setup.

  • well its like i said earlier in this comment

this experiment has been conducted at least 2 other times before that i can think of (ok i didnt state it that way.....i got that out of my psych book) so the fact that this one experiment is flawed, means nothing, the others were not, they were using computers in diffrent rooms

  • Well I thought the sounds made it clear who wrote what as well.

But they both write it at the same time don't they? They are told to get the letter first, then told to write it down. So no cheating occurs.

  • that is exactly what i thought

  • Lol. Anita is a bitch.

  • Definitely.

I had expected her to write C in the round after Adrian's first C and Adrian to write a D.

Then, the following round I had expected both of them to write C.

But Anita never responded to Adrian's C until the very last round.

  • @Zryuken Is pretty natural that some one would like have a strategy of deceit and cunning to win against someone he shall never deal with again, a stranger. if they were related or were classmates i am sure they would have co-operated more. Thats exactly what Dawkins is trying to explain and you are failing to understand.

  • @sushanalone How could you possibly claim to know what I understand...? She's deceptive yes, but cunning, I disagree. She was merely being stubborn because she is uncooperative which is not usually a favorable trait in this society. Rather than be cooperative from the start she was skeptical of Adrian's cooperative intention, and while this may have played favorably to her in the short term, I again stress this is not a useful strategy in this society.

Even the simulation programs proves this...

  • but Adrian sucks too. he was inconsistent

  • I say we start a club, the "Anita Sucks" club.

  • anita sucks

  • ...may be knowing how to spell ANITA will help :-)

  • Axelrod as in Obamas campaign man?

  • Seems like the world of humans is overwhelmed with Aninitas

  • annita is a idiot

  • fuck annita

  • No, you can draw a D with one line....but...yeah....flaw....

  • anita is a greedy little bitch ;D

  • thankyou dawkinschannel for posting this!

  • This is such a perfect, logical, mathematically sound explanation of how forgiveness and courtesy is the best strategy in life, regardless of your predisposition or religious beliefs. It almost makes me sick to see people suggesting atheism is amoral.

  • I didn't know Dawkin's subscribed to intelligent design, what's this garbage about a "preplanned cooperative strategy" being necesary to avoid extinction. Get back in our camp Dawson and toe Darwin's line!

  • You probably missed it, but he explained exactly how preplanned cooperative strategy arises gradually through natural selection. Preplanned strategy devised by survival of the fittest (Darwinian evolution) is very different from invented strategy (intelligently designed strategy).

  • A and B would be better because both capital letters have three marks.

  • or even better, have a paper with C or D already written on it and have someone circle their choice.

  • The best strategy? Planned collusion with penalties for cheating. Just make sure the antitrust division doesn't catch you!

  • My thought exactly

  • Typical women..... lol
