Treat is not a reward. Dogs and their ancestors must have worked for their daily food. I always ask my dog to do something before I feed her and giving treats during training is one part of her daily amount. This way she respects me and the food much better. Those who refuse this method know nothing about dogs :)
God she is so cute. Now is she going to be brown? Because I have seen a lot of brown Border Collie pups that when the owner puts the grown up video of them on, they are black.
I love this video! I have shared my 10-week-old English puppy's video of her first steps in clicker training. The first exercise was difficult but now she understands it much better I love this method and I think you are a great trainer:)
She/he's cute! We have a 10wk old Tri Color Border Collie, our second BC. Clicker training is the only way to go and after they "learn" the behavior they don't need the "treat" any longer.
Google Susan Pryor for more info. She is a leader in this type of training.
everyone trains with treats— you don't have to worry that much about border collies getting fat— they aren't like golden retrievers- they stop eating when they are full and they usually don't get fat.
Mate, shes a pup, and they are naturally chubby then. When owning a border collie you really do not need to worry about them getting fat, most people are concerned about their BC being to thin, I am one of those owners, our BC is 10 pounds under weight, but it doesn't mean he is unhealthy, he eats alot of food, they just have a very fast metabolism.
very cute! i want a border collie sooo bad but am afriad of not being able to spend enough time with it as i know this is not a breed you should leave up to its own devices.
I have never agreed with the use of treats to "train" dogs. That little puppy is going to be one overweight dog in no time flat. Border collies will learn for the love of both learning and to please their pack leader. Just a thought, not a condemnation.
I have used treats as a motivation and reward for training my dogs, not one of my dogs is overweight. The treat is not training the dog, its being used as a reward so they understand when they do something right.
Puppy looks hungry , do you train them before dinner ? My 2 border collies arent interested in training for treats unless they are close to feeding time.
excellant!!!! i wish id known this wen i had mine...he was too clever 4me wen i had him - i was only 9, so my parents give him to a family who trained him, and now he is a frisbee catching champion for the whole of europe!! i miss him sooo much

You click too late. Its critical that you click at the right time. too soon or too late is funest.

Thanks, but you are in error about the name. It is Karen Pryor and Susan Garrett that you are getting mixed up.
Both are excellent, but Karen came before Susan.

You are welcome to your opinion, but it shows your lack of knowledge about the method.

without the "click thing" to train the dog, mine is younger and obey better. Old fashion way is better =) No need tools.
But the dog is cute, and he obeys anyway.
So good job
