K your tutorial was quite helpful in giving me a way to visualize and picture negative space in general...just not sure how to apply it or make use of it in more precise usage, like to bring out texture of the leaves themselves, now I'm knocking on 40 yrs old and didn't have a clue I could draw a lick, and my education of drawing is trial and error and the help of video tutorials like yours that I find on YouTube...so what I'm trying to ask may not make any sense whatsoever to ya, if it helps,
@Bsgff152 Don't worry about it. I learned using trial and error, too. I never took any fancy art classes. My advice, based on what I've done myself, would be that this technique could be used to draw anything, even textures! The trick is to start big and work your way down. Sounds funny, I know, but it works for me. Simply start with the biggest shapes and move to smaller ones until you are looking at the gaps between a leaf's veins as negative space. PM me if you need anything further
I love to draw, but I am not a pro yet. How do you space out a drawing? jajajaja As u can tell I'm an amateur. But I am really having trouble with spaces. Since I'am one those people who just jumps into a drawing u know. I've got a lot to learn, but if u be so kind to help me out a little more I'll be thrilled. ^_^
@NothingButTears7 I'm glad I could help. Although I'm sorry to hear that your teacher hasn't been able to help you understand. I'm sure he or she is trying their best.
@bukroot jeez i was just making comliment on how awesome ur video is :D, my teach aint that bad, mb i wasn't paying enough attention on that part she said. Thx for the vid anyway
Excellent job on explaining the r and l mode regarding negative drawing. I'm going to show this to my Junior high Art Class in hopes that will understand this method of drawing better. THANKS. Hope to see more of your videos regarding r and l mode (upside down drawing, etc).
@nancegee WOW! Really? That's great news! Do let me know what your class's reactions were to the video. I am studying to be a teacher and would love the feedback. Thank you for taking the time to tell me this. Have a wonderful day!
Thanks for the video. Just a doubt: how to use negative spacing technique for faces? Can you explain with an example? For other objects, finding spaces may be easy but how do we find/use spaces while drawing portraits?
@elysianverse Instead of looking for the spaces between the outline of your object and the background (like i did with the plant in my example), with the negative space technique, you'd be looking for shadows and differences in values and trying to see them as shapes. Instead of drawing the edges of someone's face and then working your way in, you would isolate and frame the shapes within the outline. The dark spaces would all become one shape, the lighter ones another shape, etc.
aww im glad i made you day your so welcome my der you had real beautiful long hair in other videos very talented. hope you enjoid my video and website
@bukroot First of all i want to be good in drawing + becoming artist .....So is Perspective drawing a must for me? .......In perspective drawing can i put the vanishing points where ever i like?? If you can explain with this by making vdo or if you already make then please give me the link........ i'll be graceful to you!!
@guiteful at the moment i am going through some personal trouble and i might be late to make my next video, but i promise i will try hard to make the one that helps you. so for now i will just say that you don't have to be a master of perspective to be a good artist, but it definitely helps make things easier. now about the vanishing points: are you interested in drawing people, animals, landscapes? because the answer differs depending on what you want to draw.
@bukroot Thanks for your concern and i'll wait till this vdo comes out...... Actually i want to be good in drawing everything whether peoples, animals, landscape, vehicles etc............. By the way you are beautiful, funny and caring and i like u! So which country you are from? I'm from North east side of India......
@guiteful it sounds like you are very committed. :) Thank you so much for your kind words. you made me blush. I'm from Greece but i grew up in Australia which is why i'm good at english. You're from India? WOW! i am hoping to visit next year to see my best friend, who lives in mangalore. I'll be sure to notify you when i make the video. but you have to accept my friend request otherwise youtube doesn't allow me to send you personal messages. unless you want me to notify you via email or facebook
@guiteful i'm sorry that you don't like my method, but i am a kindergarten teacher and my specialty is teaching serious things in a fun, playful way. that does not mean i don't take drawing seriously. i respect art very much actually. but being too serious tends to be translated as being boring to most people. besides, there are thousands of more serious tutorials online, so you have no obligation to watch mine.
You're right. Negative space drawing is an important drawing skill. You need to perceive shapes. And I've had to force myself to draw what I see, not what I think I see. Great video!
@spongebobnik it made me smile that you forced yourself to get used to something you knew would help you in the long run even though you normally wouldn't do so. if more people were as persistent and persevered half as much as you do, the world would have a lot more skilled artists. :) keep up that winning attitude! do you attend a drawing class?
@1guitarfreak4 don't ever think like that! you can do anything you put your mind to. watch my "how to become skilled at anything you choose" video and you'll see what i'm talking about.
@spilsbury1947 thank you so much! i'm glad you liked it! and THANK YOU so much for the video response. just so you know: this is the first vid response i have ever had. :) i'm very excited!
I really enjoyed this vid. It was just the right length to hold my attention until the end. My only tip would be to properly light yourself. I'm guessing you were just using natural light and every time a cloud came by you were a little dark. I just use a desk lamp with a 40w bulb and it does the trick for me. You can easily see the difference if I forget to use it and it helps viewers stay focused on you.
@snowlionud i really appreciate the tip! i'll do my best to find an appropriate lamp. :) would you say my other videos are too long? if so i'll try my utmost to make them all 5min or under.
@bukroot Well, it depends on the video, but as a rule of thumb I try my hardest to keep videos 3-4 minutes at most. That seems to be the maximum attention of a YouTuber.
@snowlionud i definitely agree that the majority of people avoid watching videos that are over 5min. i've really been trying hard to keep my videos short, but somehow the content doesn't allow me to. i really have to try harder. wish me luck!
Really big thank you and thumbs up (for being girl of your word, and making video so quick) Round of applause and sporadic cheers and shouting "Bukroot", thanks again.
all this positive negative drawing TALK is making me dizzy.... interesting but i got no interest in drawing adios hi hi i m sure it helps those keen on drawing, what the hell am i interested in !!!!!!!!!!! lol chao.
