My uncle used to always play this song when I was a kid. I always just called it "The Uncle Jimmy Song". It took me ages to find what it was actually called.
I don't know why it's tagged John Denver, but the musician is Graeme Connor, and yes, some of the photos are off a bit, too, as there seems to be one in which the sun is going down over the sea, which would not happen on Australia's East coast!
heard this for the first time on @989fmcountry brisbane radio - it made me smile :) ... then i saw a horse shaking off the water from it's body and i smiled ... the sun shines in my heart
Can't help but feel like an Aussie listening to this, a true classic I reckon. And great clip to go with it, makes me want to toss in my job and join the Grey Nomads...

As good as John Denver was how could anybody compare his version with Graemes. It is a song about Queensland, written and sung by a Queenslander. You have to experience Far North Queensland to sunderstand what Graeme is singing about.
Our theme song! We're moving to FNQ Holloways Beach in 9 days time from Adelaide - we had some catching up to do, so it's "we'll move a LOT further north this year"...LOL
i love graeme connors!! my mum and dad played his music all the time when i was growing up!!!! this song totally makes me miss home!!!! there is no place like FNQ!! best weather ever!!! beautiful coasts and countrysides!! best of both worlds!!
Graeme tours extensively and I never miss him. He's singing here about his youth in Far North Queensland, around Mackay. He's just opening a restarant there with some of his family. I'd love to go but it's too far to drive for the evening...about 3000 klms!!
Hell yeah i heard him sing this song live last weekend!!!! Damm he was awsome!!! He is truly a great singer and intertainer as well as a person! You got to love this song!
A friend of mine from Oz send me a copy of this song thru the net years ago and burned a copy of his CD for me. I love this man and I always wished he was more worldly known. His voice and lyrics are incredible. They do tell the story of Australia. Hugs to him from the USA and ty for the song
This is beautiful, both the song and the photos. I've been listening to the John Denver version for years. Someone on you tube said Graeme did the song better. I knew he wrote it but hadn't thought any more than that.
Graeme is fantastic. Have been listening to some of his other songs too.
The photos really evoke what the song is about. I've never been to Australia, but I feel I have now.
Heard this for the first time on Ansett headed from Adelaide to Brisbane. This guy is great and I never got this song out of my head in 13 years. Graeme rules....even in this end of CT USA
Yeah i hear ya mate the song dose have that affect on one . If you have ever been lucky enough to do some travelling around Australia it can sure bring back the memories off jumbing in the car and heading off with your mates or family in a northerly direction usually !

@barcalonga - Maybe the sun is coming up over the sea? Unless you can tell the direction of the sun's movement from a photo.....?

@TheHopperdoggy
maybe it is coming up - just looks like sunset to me, ...and that's what's in the song...

A Little Further North is my favourite song of Graeme Connors. I was fortunate to see him sing this song live in Tamworth, January 2009.
