Severe storms were forecast and the Captain of the Pasha ignored the ususal advice, warnings and eventually the orders to move out to sea for safety because he didn't want to loose his place in line at the terminals. Smart move mate.

I live about 5km away.. i went in a few times.. bloody bigger than you think at low tide and up close... I mean they come and go from the harbour constantly but they're mostly underwater.. Would of made a good floating casino :)~

We watched it being removed on coastal watch Surfcam from nobby's. All happened a lot quicker than we thought it would.

The Harbour would of been the only surfable break in newcastle at that time, which is still good because the harbour is sick!

I heard for every day that ship was stuck, it was costing the company who owned the ship AU$200,000, i saw an interesing time lapse video on Channel 9 showing the ship progressively being turned around, and pulled off the beach

they ended up finally towing it back out to sea a few weeks later after a few unsuccessful tries. it was in newcastle being repaired for months and cost a shite-load of money. it was the captains fault for not listening to instructions to go further out to sea and anchor (or take in more water so the ship would be heavier?? cant remember properly now). all the other ships followed the instructions except one and that one was almost grounded too.

This Comment is probably a bit late, but the ship that was stuck on the beach was eventually pulled away intact, fixed up in Newcastle Harbour, and floated home
